We’re very proud to announce our Cork, Ireland office has won a Taisce Coastcare Merit Award! The award was announced on September 8th at the Tailor’s Hall, Dublin, by T.D. Fergus O’Dowd, Minister of State at the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government. The prestigious Coastcare Awards recognizes the invaluable work done by committed volunteers across Ireland on a daily basis protecting and restoring the coastline.
“Coastcare is all about local communities and businesses making an extraordinary difference in helping and maintaining Ireland’s over 5000km of coastline and we couldn’t be more honored to win Coastcare’s Business of Year 2011 Award,” said Stephen Hegarty, Director of European Business Operations. “I want to personally recognize and thank team members Gregor Herda and Clare Noonan for their invaluable work in protecting and restoring Ireland’s coastline and in doing so, further spreading the great culture of Big Fish.”
Big Fish employees in the Cork office are a passionate group, especially when it comes to environmental issues and are particularly driven for this type of coastal cleanup effort. Over 40 employees from the Cork and Seattle offices came out in full force to lend a hand, where they spent 3 days picking up scattered debris, refuse and litter along the scenic Ireland coastline. Throughout their volunteering efforts, the employees worked very hard, especially on the first day of clean up while removing several tons of rubbish. The Cork office also won Coastcare’s Event of the Year Award for this day in particular, further supporting Coastcare’s mission of protecting Ireland’s coast.
Coastcare Merit Awards are about celebrating these people and the work they do across the length and breadth of the country. These awards help raise awareness of Coastcare and encourage people to join their local Coastcare group or set up their own group. Ireland boasts a vast coastline, from the wonderful beaches in Donegal in the Northwest to the beautiful beaches in Wexford in the sunny southeast. With this in mind the Clean Coast Programme through Coastcare aims to protect and enhance this fabulous resource.
