Nintendo is set to release the Super Mario 25th Anniversary Edition in Europe in celebration of Super Mario Bros.’ 25th birthday. This amazing package was originally thought to only be available in Japan.

The Swedish-language section of Nintendo’s website has posted some images of the contents of the package. The packages sport English translations of the original Japanese text – cool! We’ve included them below…

In total, the anniversary set includes the following items:

  • Super Mario All-Stars Game
  • A Super Nintendo title of remixed versions of the original Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
  • The soundtrack (on CD)
  • A history of the Mario Bros. series (on DVD)

Even though the image calls out the box art as "Not final," the text Nintendo published cites a release date of December 3rd – just in time for Christmas! What a great way to pay homage to the series many of us point to as our first casual game and one of the greatest Platform games ever created.

Nintendo’s Swedish release claims the newly released versions have “much better” graphics and sound, and also some minor gameplay differences.

Based on what we’ve seen, the documents included in the anniversary set feature early design documentation that lets you get a real feel for how Super Mario Bros. was designed on paper. If you are a creative type, you’ll find this to be pure gold.

Here are a few snapshots taken from the actual booklet included in the Super Mario Anniversary Set.
