General Tips & Information

  • Select the profiles button on the main screen to add or delete player profiles.
  • You may play this game in full screen or windowed mode by changing the settings in the options menu.
  • You may adjust music, ambient noise and FX sounds in the options menu.
  • You may turn on/off game tips in the options menu.
  • The options menu is accessible from both the main screen and the in-game menu.
  • This game is not timed.
  • The in-game menu is accessed by pressing the menu button in the lower left.
  • You can pause your game by using the menu button, then selecting “Return to Game” when you are ready to resume play.
  • The help button will show a screen with brief explanations on some areas of the game.
  • Select “Save and Exit” to save your game and return to the main menu.
  • Just above the menu button is the map button.
  • Once at the map, click on a photograph to travel to that location.
  • The hint button is located in the upper left corner of the screen.
  • You will receive 5 hints for each investigation so use them wisely.
  • Directly below hints is where you will find hidden object lists or tasks.

  • Click on the “Investigation Cards” to read all the files on the case.
  • Select a category by choosing one of the folders.
  • The file categories are: victim, killer, evidence, information, and suspects.

  • Most hidden object scenes and mini-games are randomized, so your solution may vary.

Investigation One: Who Am I?

  • Someone has left a mysterious note at the police station.
  • You begin playing as Lindsay Boxer, Homicide Detective for the San Fransisco Police Department, but will change between the other members of the Women’s Murder Club.
  • Locate all the hidden objects on the list.

  • The items you have collected are now sparkling on Lindsay’s desk.
  • Click on the collected items to trigger a mini-game.

  • The object of this mini-game is to determine the location of the possible next crime by eliminating the streets based on the clues.
  • Click on a street to cross it off the map.
  • When you cross off the wrong street, click on it again to erase the mark.
  • The first clue states, “I am not a body of water”, so click on Pacific Ave.

  • The second clue says, “I am neither a state, nor a city”- select California, Sacramento, Washington, Jackson, Montgomery, Mason, and Stockton Streets.
  • The third clue is, “I am not a famous explorer,” so you can cross off Columbus Ave.
  • The fourth clue is, “I am not a natural substance or a plant” allows us to eliminate Clay, Pine and Bush Streets.
  • “There is no ‘o’ in my first word nor does my first word end in ‘y’” lets us eliminate Broadway, Post, Geary, Jones, Taylor, Powell, and Kearney Streets.
  • With the final clue stating. “’T’ may spell trouble, but it does not appear anywhere in my name,” we can cross off Grant Ave. and Sutter St.
  • Only one street remains- Jack Kerouac Alley.

  • The map will automatically open after solving the puzzle.
  • Click on the sparkling location of Jack Kerouac Alley.
  • The street light is flickering so you will need to repair it to be able to see in the alley.
  • Place the bench at the base of the light.
  • Put the large box on the bench, followed by the small box.
  • Put the ladder on top of the boxes.

  • Click on the sparkling light for a close-up view.
  • Click on the glass panel to open the light.
  • Move your cursor over the bulb to get the arrows.
  • Click three times to tighten the bulb.

  • You call for Claire, the Womens Murder Club Medical Examiner.

  • You are now playing as Claire Washburn, ME.
  • Click on the sparkling body for a close-up view.
  • Take the UV light from your inventory and use it on the bloodstain near the victim’s hand.
  • There may be something underneath, so click on the bottom of the jacket to open it and see.

  • Use the black light to collect the evidence.
  • Move the light around to find the six pieces of evidence then click on each one.

Investigation Two: Don’t Fear The Ripper

  • You are now playing as Cindy Thomas, reporter for the San Fransisco Register.
  • Collect all the hidden objects on the list.
  • Click on the sparkling CD case to trigger a mini-game.

  • The object of this mini-game is to return the CD’s to the case and form a picture.
  • Take a CD from inventory and place it into a slot.
  • Left-click and drag to rotate the CD.
  • The CD will lock into place when it is in the correct position.

  • Click on the sparkling monitor on the desk.
  • Push in the CD tray to start the program.

  • Read how Mary Nichols was a victim of Jack The Ripper.
  • Press ‘Continue’ to move forward.

  • You are again playing as Lindsay Boxer.
  • Locate the fax read about Jack the Ripper.
  • Find the sticky note from Sergeant Ryan and learn there might be another message from the killer.

  • Locate all the hidden objects on the list.
  • The killer has left another message.

  • Click on the sparkling map on Lindsay’s desk to trigger a mini-game.
  • The object of this mini-game is to determine the location of the possible next crime by eliminating the streets based on the clues.
  • Click on a street to cross it off the map.
  • Click on it again to erase the mark if you cross off the wrong street.
  • The first line tells us we are looking for an intersection.
  • The second line states that none are plants, so we can cross off Larch, Birch, Oak, Linden, Hickory, Ivy, and Willow Streets.
  • The next line says that none start with the letters F, G, or S, so we can eliminate Golden Gate, Fulton, Grove, Fell, Gough, Fillmore, Steiner, and Scott Streets.
  • The final line indicates that the cross streets are only separated alphabetically by one letter.
  • That leaves only one possibility- the intersection of Octavia and McAllister.
  • Cross off Eddy, Hayes, Pierce, Webster, Buchanan, and Laguna Streets.

  • You arrive to find a disturbance at the hotel.
  • The hotel room is filled with gas.
  • You must quickly clear out the gas.
  • Click on the window , but it is sealed shut.
  • Pull the tablecloth off the table under the window.
  • Take the table and break the window.
  • Time is limited here, so if you are too slow, Lindsay will succumb to the gas.
  • You will immediately be able to try again.

  • Locate all the hidden objects on the list.
  • The four clues are found by clicking on the sparkling areas.
  • Clicking on the vent will take you to a close-up view.
  • Click on the vent cover to open it and find the clue.

  • You are once again playing as Cindy Thomas.

  • Enter the information found on the sticky note into the four slots and click on search.

  • Click on two letters to swap positions.

  • From the map, select the library front desk.
  • After speaking to the librarian, you will need to follow the archivist.
  • Walk right and down the stairs.
  • Enter the door.

  • Turn the levers up to open pipes and point the notch on the wheels in the direction you want the goo to flow.

  • The store owner checks his records to see who has purchased the book.
  • The store owner gives you receipts with two names.
  • From the map, select Herbert Smythe’s apartment.
  • Locate all the hidden objects on the list.

  • Herbert gives you his doctor’s card.

  • After finding all the hidden objects, return the the stairs.
  • Take the rags from inventory and wipe the paint of the stairs to find the addresses.

  • The archivist has suggested two possibilities for your search.
  • You need to find the archives for the years 1972 and 1987 while avoiding the law clerks.
  • Use your arrow keys to move.
  • When you collide with a law clerk, the game will start over.
  • Each decade has its own row, and each year is in its own column.
  • The bottom left archive and start position is for the year 2000.
  • The way to find 1972, is to go up 3 rows then move to the right 3 archives.
  • You can see the year once you are next to an archive.

  • Make sure to avoid the law clerks.

  • You are once again playing as Detective Lindsay.
  • Click on the sparkling fax machine on the desk to read the files that Jill sent over.
  • Select the Library Front desk from the map.
  • Speak with both suspects.
  • They both claim the reports are not about them and agree to lie detector tests
  • From the map, select the Police Station.
  • Locate all the hidden objects on the list.

  • The object of this mini-game is to determine if the suspects are telling the truth.
  • The subject is lying if the meter moves +/- 3, or if they have a nervous fidget and the meter is jittery.
  • Ask each suspect a series of questions.
  • After each question, look at the lie detector and click on the the ‘Lie’ or ‘Truth’ button.
  • You want to ask two questions in the beginning to see what his readings are for lies and truths.
  • The questions will repeat until you choose the correct response.
  • Are you a resident of San Francisco? Mr. Browning answers yes- press the truth button.
  • Please answer yes to this–Do you work at the Zoo? Mr. Browning answers yes- press the lie button.
  • Did you grow up in Kansas City? Mr. Browning answers yes- press the truth button.
