THE MISSION

The Data Center Operations Lead owns the operation and management of Big Fish Games four datacenter locations to provide secure, stable and cost effective hosting services for internal and external “Mission Critical” services. This individual should be able to manage high priority projects, handle escalations and maintain timely and accurate communication to both technical peers and executive management. They will also inspire and support effective collaboration, communication and teamwork  the various operations teams ensuring alignment with business objectives.

The best candidate for this role is someone who can operate in two modes.  First, he/she should be able to think strategically and architect long term infrastructure solutions to meet business objectives.  This candidate must then also be technical and have hands on experience in all phases from deployment to administering enterprise class storage, compute and virtualization technologies.  They will be expected to coach and inspect the work of others, while assisting with issue resolution during major incidents. 
 

THIS INCLUDES…

  • Successfully manage high density, SaaS Service based Data Centers of a size and complexity commensurate with Big Fish Games data centers
  • Data Center and Systems Management experience with “best practices” data center operations and infrastructure monitoring, Capacity Management, Problem Management, Change Management and Configuration Management
  • Provide effective leadership with ability to plan, organize, and motivate others to achieve objectives
  • Ability to make timely and effective decisions that are based on sound judgment and business rationale
  • Experience with datacenter design, layout and future space planning
  • Actively managing vendor relationships
  • Oversee all datacenter equipment and assets
  • Preparation and management annual datacenter expense budgets more than $15+ million with a strong understanding of and experience with IT procurement practices and contract negotiations

 

REQUIRED ABILITIES, ACHIEVEMENTS, AND XP

Must-have requirements:

  • 7+ years of relevant data center operations experience
  • 5+ years managing procurement and vendor negotiations
  • 7+ years hands on experience directly administering enterprise storage (Hitachi/EMC/NetApp), compute (HP/IBM/Cisco UCS) and virtualization (VMWare/Xen) technologies
  • Solid networking architecture and implementation experience
  • Knowledge of Linux platforms and Akamai content delivery
  • Experience in delivering and operating consumer-facing web systems at scale
  • Track record with Salt/CFEngine and Jenkins
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Bachelors in CS, Engineering or other technical discipline
  • Some team leadership, including mentoring, project management, task assignment, etc.
  • Understanding of Containers and Hyper-converged platforms
  • Skilled at working under a security/compliance regime (such as PCI, SOX, etc.)
  • Practice in developing Disaster Recovery capabilities across multiple data centers
  • Knowledge of Site Recovery Manager or equivalent technologies
  • Experience migrating onprem workloads to the cloud
