Platform game which makes you feel like you're in a cartoon - cool
Fancy playing a fun relaxing platform game, that makes you feel like you are in an Asterix Cartoon? This is it.
Story -
You are Porthos! Indeed you are. Off to save your captured musketeer companions, by leaping and fighting your way through some colorful well drawn platform settings, and collecting keys and coins en route. Trying to stop you are twisty corridors and obstacles, along with soldiers, archers, ghosts, falling axes, spike traps, giant spiders, rampaging pigs (!), and not forgetting an evil Count!
Controls and combat -
Quick to comprehend and responsive when used - Arrows for directions, space to jump and X to sword fight. The changes in angle of the camera whilst you move are not distracting, and some of the levels are challenging with trying to figure out where to go next. Combat is _very_ simple. Fortunately the end of section boss fights, move away from the standard combat in the game to provide more of a challenge.
Save options -
You can't save as you go along, but the game does autosave at regular intervals. If you lose a life you restart in the area you are currently in. If you lose all your lives you can continue from the last major autosave point in the plot. The game is well spaced so it is not usually too far back at all. It is an easy game to come back to at any time, and not wonder 'what clues do I have to remember' etc...
Visuals -
The game doesn't play in full screen, that I can tell, but it doesn't detract from the atmosphere or game play at all. Drawings and graphics in game are simple clear and effective. Only during the movie clips the graphics appear blurred.
Audio -
Sound and music is crisp and complements the light mood and setting of the game.
Humor wise -
Porthos has quite the ego, and does flop about entertainingly when he is running along. During the game, I had a small smile playing on my lips nearly the whole time. Apart from when a pig ran into my head as I tried to climb a ladder, thus taking my last life... grrr :)
Difficulty and game time -
I played this over the course of a few days on and off, so it is of decent length. For difficulty and challenge, I would rate this as easy with a few medium parts of difficulty. It is this low challenge score which makes this game an overall 3 and not 4.
Summary-
If you want a light fun and simple platform game, or looking for a recommendation for a light break from typical HO games I would recommend this. (Check the video clip / demo to make sure this is your cup of tea).
