Want a game filled with suspense? Here you go. Some reviewers thought this game wasn't scary enough, but I enjoyed it and thought it played fairly well. The rain and grey atmosphere gave a definite dreary quality to the abandoned town, creating a Silent Hill-esque atmosphere. Still, what really caught my attention was the music--though not necessarily in a good way. The creepy music fades in and out intermittently, and fits the game to a T--but it got irritating after a while, because at times the music would be barely audible and at times it would be loud enough to be just on the border of annoyance. Don't get me wrong--it's a very clever idea and definitely adds to the suspenseful atmosphere, but just a bit less contrast would be nice. The only other (minor) complaint I have is with a glitch that others are experiencing as well--check out the forums for more info on that, as I can't say too much here without spoilers, but it was aggravating and might be something, like the music, that could be fixable. Overall, it was a good, solid game and I do recommend it despite its flaws. November 19, 2011
Chilling GAME COMPLETED A FEW TIMES From the opening segment you know you?re in for something mature, sophisticated and professional. Also bleak, gritty and eerie. This is a HOPA thriller that takes itself seriously, and delivers top quality performance all the way. The visuals are 'grotty' realism, dark, misty, sinister. Ugly. Personally, I kept hoping we?d go somewhere more cheerful, but this is just not that kind of game. The audio track increases the creepy feel of the game, and includes some really good music as well as some really freaky ambient noise and great thunder claps. The gameplay is dominated by HOs, which are visited twice. They are interactive and interesting. There are dozens of locations in this game, and a lot to do. The game covers an amazing amount of ground for a game without a map. It?s not essential, though, as the to and fro is usually within the nearest locations. There's less puzzles than most HOPAs have and most of them very easy. One nifty gimmick was a camera that, if you snapped off a quick shot when it started jumping and flashing, gave you a hint in picture form. Neat. Also good was a flashlight. Which was needed extensively. Hitchhiker won Creepiest of the Year 2011, and it is not at all surprising, once you?ve seen it. The one thing I didn?t like was the ending, which set us up for the CE, I think. If it was for a sequel that would be okay, because we'd anticipate the next story, but we SE buyers aren't about to go off now and buy the CE, just for the last chapter, so we're left feeling as though we've missed out. Shiver: Vanishing Hitchiker, This one is a keeper.... I loved this game. The theme tune is actually belonging to Tomb Raider Underworld, so for all you Lara fans...The characters look real, the story interesting and scenes were clear and hidd obj scenes were organized. This is a game I'd play across the platforms. A game similar to this was: Voodoo Whisperer Curse of a Legend, and Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek November 26, 2011
Nice game Played expert level. Graphics were occasionally grainy, but interesting, HO's fairly well defined. The story is a bit weak, and there is the usual skeletons and blood, but overall I enjoyed it. Voice over was not over done...I liked the intermittent rain. Because it is rainy, the graphics are pretty much grey and muted. The Hint option was helpful, but did not give too much away. It helped me avoid retracing my steps haphazardly when I was stuck. The journal saves clues, but I did not find it to be a lot of help other than recording a code. Gave several hours of playing time. Not a lot of puzzles, and they were not too difficult, but I liked the way the game broke up into puzzles, HO, and searching for 'useful' items. November 15, 2011
Enjoyable Game! Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker is a hidden object adventure game. The story centers around trying to locate a mysterious hitchhiker. The graphics are beautiful, the story is creepy and engaging, and the gameplay is enjoyable. There are two difficulty settings for the game, and I played on the advanced difficulty mode. The puzzles were interesting, and a few were unique, but none were very challenging. I really liked the graphics of this game, and the story kept me riveted. I completed the game in around three hours, without skipping any puzzles, so I'd say it's average length. Even on the advanced difficulty mode there were some sparkles hinting that there was an area that needed to be examined closely. Overall, I really enjoyed this game. December 13, 2011
Shivered Me Timbers.. I didn't find this game to be "scary" per se, but it had a gloomy, surreal atmosphere that hooked me. It didn't have the best graphics I've seen, but the sort of haziness added to the atmosphere. I did need some hints on where to 'go next' a couple times, but otherwise it was pretty easy to follow. The H/O scenes were 'do-able' without being too easy or too hard. The puzzles ranged from somewhat easy to challenging, depending on your skill level with certain things. I would recommend this game; it's perfect for a dark, rainy night alone! November 22, 2011
Very enjoyable! After playing the trial, I decided it looked intresting enough to buy. I was right! It is a very enjoyable game, the graphics are good, the puzzles are well balanced with a rechargable hint system. The hidden object scenes are a little on the easy side, but enjoyable none the less. Some games only take a few hours to complete but this took a lot longer. The story line is good, but ended rather ubruptly, which is a shame. November 28, 2011
Short but worth the expense Nothing bad to say about this game which offers only good features: intro, voice-over, narrative, graphics, a slightly creepy atmosphere, neat HO Scenes and plenty of things to do. Plus a very good musical soundtrack. However, the game doesn't have many puzzles, just a few minigames, and everything is easy. With 5 chapters the SE only offers a short playtime, hardly more than 4 to 5 hours, so it might be a good idea to consider the CE if your budget allows. December 22, 2011
Like a Book I couldn't put down! Great game! I enjoyed it and was bummed that it ended. I was happy the collector's edition had some extras at the end though. November 26, 2011
Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker It is a well constructed game with a great story. Much excitement and anticipation to it. I have the Collectors Edition and find the extra really adds to the game. This is one of many their many great games. November 16, 2011
