Grim Facade: Mystery of Venice Collector?s Edition 4.4 5 25 25
good solid ERS Good solid game as usual from ERS. They have quite a distinct way of drawing. I enjoyed the merchant of venice and buying things I needed. The scenes were beautifully drawn with movement in most and the game play fun although somewhat predictable. Unlike others I had no need of a map whatsoever. The areas ended their usefulness and then there was no need to return to them. The voice acting was pretty sad. lol Really especially near the end. And I didn't think much of the ending. You are chasing one ..oh and then there's another.. they have threatened to kill you but then are taken out by a bucket of water? ok. Is he melting? Anyway.. several hours of good solid gameplay, well done merchant, well hidden items, beautiful locations and some interesting puzzles save this one. It does look as though a lot of work went in and I appreciate that. Nice job. Good idea but a bit loose in the storyline. December 15, 2011
Pretty good game, fun, but the music was annoying The game was pretty fun. The HO scenes were fairly easy (there are unlimited hints). The puzzles were a mix of easy, medium, and hard (and they can be skipped). The graphics were lovely and the story, while predictable, was fun and still held me slightly in suspense. It might get boring after you play it 10 times, but it is good for all ages, and I found it a nice diversion from the very creepy games I had been playing. I have two complaints: one is that the music was period appropriate and fit the game theme, but it was super repetitive and annoying. The second complaint is that the game wasn't that long. I got to the end and I was sure there must be more (maybe there is more in the collector's edition, as I only got the regular edition). I recommend this game! January 24, 2012
A beautiful, chalenging game Like most ERS games, Grim is gorgeous. The plot is predictable but the game play is great all the same. There is, however the added layer of the shopkeep who you must interact with. There is voice acting, and an effort was made, however silly the accents were in the end. Pet peeve: although lovely, those gowns would not be anything but scandalous in the 1800s. Nice try though! The vices are utilized here and are used well, much better than I've seen in other games.* While you are reminded occasionally that lives are at stake, the game never really rushes you or makes you hurry, and the final show down doesn't feel like there is a timer attached. Alright, not one of my usual rundown categories, but: Biggest pet peeve of the game: Music gets repetitive and VERY boring halfway through Scary? Not really Good for kids? PG-13ish Guide required? Yes; included Buy? Yes Last line: Great game. Add it to your collection, but half way through mute the music and turn on the classical radio station. * *cough*SacraTerra*cough* March 30, 2012
Bellissimo Game !!! I really liked this game...I personally know very good Venice City( I studied there 4 years) and I want to congratulate with the programmers for the venetian atmosphere perfectly recreated The monuments and the most important building are in the game...althought not in the exact geographic location :( The story is Great and realistic.. it could be "Based on true story"... I definitely recommend this game !!!! 5 stars January 17, 2012
Easy and Relaxing This game is full of HO scenes, and the puzzles are easy. One puzzle seems bugged (puppet painting), so I had to skip it, but the rest of the game was easy and relaxing. At first it seems boring, but as you keep moving forward, it becomes much funner to complete. You don't really have to think much. If you need a game to relax with and that won't frustrate you, this is one. The bonus section was just more HO scenes and a handful of easy puzzles in limited areas. January 7, 2012
I didn't care for the game, but you might like it. I bought the CE on sale and was really looking forward to playing it. I did not like it at all, but forced myself to finish. There are some really good parts to the game, so let?s start there. You play a detective in 18th (?) century Venice, during a plague. A man?s wife and daughter have been kidnapped and you need to find and rescue them. The story is good and the setting is great. There are lots of interesting places to explore: in the buildings, underground and along the canals. As you proceed, you find out that a secret society sacrifices sinners, when there is an outbreak of plague. Along the way, you will need to find seven masks representing the seven deadly sins, as well as the mother and grown daughter. Despite being set during a plague, there are no really gruesome scenes in the game (lots of rats and one wrapped dead body). There are a number of skeletons in the bonus part of the game. Besides finding the normal items scattered around, you also need to find fans in the HOS, which provide you with additional hints, and gold coins that allow you to buy things at the small shop. I liked the idea of buying things at the shop. Nice twist. The things I didn?t like heavily outweighed the good, IMHO. First, there are A LOT of HOS--far too many for me. Expect to visit each twice. There is very minor interaction required for one or two items in each scene. There was a good variety of HOS, but most were dark, junk-piles. One or two had so many items in them that I cringed when I saw them. I found three items that I don?t think were properly labeled. A ?purse,? a ?paperweight,? and a ?crowbar.? Almost all of the mini-games were ridiculously easy. I could not figure out how to finish the painting one and when I clicked on the Hint, it just gave me the reward item. So, during mini-games, the Hint must be the Skip. There are one or two really challenging mini-games, so watch for them. Also, you will find items before you need them and wonder, why am I picking THIS up? The voice-overs were well done and you could sort-of click through them. You can skip them. The cut scenes were good and the graphics were pretty good. Think well done graphic novel. But, the music got annoying after a while. Quite a few of the actions you need to take weren?t very intuitive, IMHO. There was a good bit of walking back and forth, but it wasn?t excessive. NO MAP! Maybe, I am spoiled, but I now want a map (preferably interactive) with my HOS/Adventure games now. The bonus chapter involved some already-seen locations, but mostly new sites. It had a few new HOS and pretty linear problem solving. It didn?t take that long to play and I am not sure it would be worth the extra money. I didn?t look at the other Bonus Material. In summary, this game has a great concept and a great location (Venice), but no map and far too many HOS for me. June 29, 2012
Fun game! This is a really neat game, I loved the graphics, the story was interesting, it flowed nicely. HOG's were tougher than usual. I loved the part of this game where you had to use coins and buy clues! Really made the game interesting. The costumes for the ladies were a bit hoakie, but it was not a huge part of the story, so it was ok to overlook. And my favorite part, NO LOCKED DOORS! I am so tired of that in these games, key for this, key for that, I am glad I bought this game! June 5, 2012
Love Venice and loved this game I always appreciate artistic and a fun variety of puzzles, this game was better than most on this. I loved finding the coins and buying items at the shop, wish they had different shops to purchase or trade different items or clues to where items are hidden... there is so much to expand on that one new feature to the game. Had a good amount of areas to roam around, the areas were fun, and had good variety. The bonus play was good, I would say great if it was a bit longer. Still, I enjoyed it and recommend the CE. But for double the price these developers need to make longer bonus play! May 30, 2012
ERS do it again! Absolutely love this game! One of my favourites by far and I've played hundreds!! ERS never fail my delight in playing these games, the graphics are just stunning and the storyline is divine. I just love listening to the characters and the story is a big part of the game and just so beautifully written. I'll never get fed up with these great games. Keep them coming Big Fish. Detective on the Hunt This was a good game. Scavenger hunt and HOG. Lots of back and forth which makes the game fun. The graphics and scenery were wonderful. Beautifully done. I recommend this game. December 31, 2011
