Sorry, I expected more from this game. Game has good visuals. It also has some interesting interactive hidden object scenes. But overall I found it to be a bit frustrating. You have to put an item in the exact place to make it work. It repeats the same message for incorrectly using an object, saying that "that only works in the movies", which in itself can be a bit annoying. It seems a bit fragmented and hard to figure out what you need to do next. When you do a hint it will show you an area that you cannot complete yet, and it may take several steps to do so. You can still zoom in on places after you have found an object, which leads you believe that the area isn't complete although you suspect it is. All in all, the game is a longer one with lots of puzzles... and I am on the fence whether or not to recommend this game. Over all the picky object placement and lack of direction makes it so I do not recommend this game. December 9, 2011
Excellent HO Game excellent HO game with nice visual quality, and it is not very hard to get through November 11, 2011
Excellent game with interesting hidden object scenes This is a beautiful game from Daily Magic Production & the atmosphere of the game was perfect for the story; I also liked the music, it was unobtrusive & suited the genre. The voiceovers for the characters were really nice & you could click to move to the next sentence which is great for people who read quickly. The hidden object scenes were excellent, there were a lot of interactive items & some were quite difficult. The mini games were hard for me & I felt a sense of accomplishment when I completed most of them without using the skip button. I used a walkthrough once & used the hint button less than dozen times mainly because it was only useful in a H0 scene, if you use the hint in a scene it really doesn?t tell you anything you don?t know. I really hated the ?that works in the movies? comment when I attempted to do something wrong or used a wrong item. There were sparkles & although they were not as bright or noticeable as in some games I wish I could switch them off. All in all this was a really excellent, amazing value for money game. Bought it, uninstalled it I wish I'd played the trial, but I bought this after all the hype it received. I rarely give games poor reviews, but this one had me gnashing my teeth within the first ten minutes. The hint system doesn't tell you where to do or what to do, it just highlights objects it thinks you haven't clicked on yet. The inventory system forces bundled objects, i.e. 4 gears, into separate boxes then makes you place them one at a time. If you try an object and misclick, it takes the object away and shoves it back in the inventory. The HO scenes were interesting, in that many of the objects you have to find are related to the other objects you find, but the rest of the gameplay was so frustrating I couldn't even enjoy that. There's no explanation of why you're there or what you should be looking for, and the random selection of puzzles bears no relevance to what's going on. Overall, very disappointing, especially since so many other people seemed to enjoy it. I wish I'd been able to see whatever they did but clearly it's just a matter of other people being more patient or forgiving of software than I am. April 4, 2012
Ghostly In a Nice Way Based on entire game. A challenging game in which you try to solve the murder of a beautiful woman in Silvertown the night before her wedding in 1896. In addition to her fiancee, she had an obsessive fan - did he do it? There are plenty of notes and newspaper clippings on your journey which provide clues to how she met her fate. Visuals were great and set a ghostly atmosphere. The ghosts looked like ghosts. There is a map in the town square, but not all locations are on it. Don?t recall if the map appears in your notebook because, if it did, it took forever to turn back the pages the first time, so it was just easier to go the town square. Plenty of HOGs ? some are straight Hos, while others require using an item within the scene to complete an object (which sometimes took some thought to figure out) before it can be collected. Unfortunately, you had to sometimes click on a particular spot of an object to collect it. There were a number of challenging puzzles, which can be skipped. Hint system could have worked better outside of the HOGs. If you needed to use something on an object and it wasn?t in your inventory and didn?t appear to be in the room, the hint would merely point to the uncompleted object. I find this type of hint is not useful when I already know that I need to do something with an object. On the plus side, it did inform you if there was nothing to do there. I could have done without the voice over in the intro. Rather lengthy with a logical conclusion. June 4, 2012
City of Blah I had played this game before, but like Wax Beauty, I returned to it and gave it another go. Fun Factor: This game was not fun at all, and was poorly designed. First off, every time you start the game, you get the same introduction, which is fine the first time you see it, but gets irritating having to click through every time you come back to the game. The hint button was completely useless. If you're stuck in an area, it won't lead you to the next hint; it'll just say "my investigation's done here for now". Then, if you're in the right place, it'll "hint" you to somewhere in the scene that you should do something, but if you don't have the item in your inventory, this is annoying and pointless. Also, when you do have a hint, there's a fog that swirls around until it eventually circles the "hint", which is irritating and wastes time. HOGs are pretty standard in this game, and not too interesting. There are pieces that you have to create, but if you don't use the tool in the proper way and get it to the right part of the scene, it'll go into your inventory, which is annoying. The other games are sometimes particularly hard, and if you want to skip them, it takes forever for the skip bar to load. The inventory, which slides down when you're not using it, is annoying as well. If you don't use items in the particular part of a scene, the item will jump out and back into the inventory. The diary is useless and sparkles constantly. It will also sparkle every time you return to the game, making you think you might have found some new information, but you haven't. The amount of backtracking around scenes and collecting one of twelve or so angel coins is really frustrating, especially if you miss one, because without any hints, you have to guess your way around to finding them. Visual/Sound Quality: The visuals are nice, but particularly dark. The music is dull with lots of thunder claps. There's not much to fault upon, but it's so decidedly average that it doesn't make up for the rest of the game. There's also live and stationary actors, none of which are notable. Level of Challenge: Challenging enough because of all the game flaws. Storyline: The storyline is completely forgettable. Halfway through the story, I figured out the culprit. The characters are dull and it's obvious not too much thought went into the story. The ending is so fast that it seemed that the directors ran out of time and put it together at the last minute. Final Thoughts: Overall, the game has too many flaws to make it fun, and the story is completely awful. There is no way to enjoy this game; you have to be a masochist to get to the end. The premise of the story is interesting but not developed at all. The visuals and sounds are alright, but don't make up for the awful gameplay. My suggestion: skip this game and just go to "Wax Beauty", which isn't a knockout, but it somewhat enjoyable and you can at least play it without all the silly frustrations. You're not missing any plot points about the series from this game. August 10, 2012
disappointment Normally the Dark Demensions line is pretty good but I was sorry I purchased it. First it didn't give you a hard/med/easy playing option. I found it too dark and would've liked to adjust the gamma on the game but didn't have that option either. Not enough cut scenes or talking. Also, I found it on the short side as far as finishing it quickly. On a lighter note, the games were at a good difficultly level for me...that's the only good thing I can say about. it. Beneath the Fog! Wow..fantastic game with extraordinary hidden object games, I had a lot of fun and I would definitely play it again! The good: HOS- it?s been along time since I?ve played so good hidden object scenes, interesting and amusing, lot of interaction with many objects to collect, visibility is perfect, also you have a regular type with listed objects and no interaction in any way but I must say that I enjoyed in that too. Graphics are beautiful with very well done characters. You have a journal Music is very nice, good voice overs Storyline is easy to follow, interesting with segments of horror and murder-mystery The bad: Sadly no map puzzles are mainly easy, nothing special No modes March 11, 2013
Not much fog This is titled City of Fog but there is only one fog cloud which is dissipated in a very common way. The puzzles were fun but the hidden objects were obvious and way too easy to find. One big problem was the journal. Pages appeared before I reached the destination. Usually they appear after. In some instances the graphics were so good that I got a bit queezy. For instance, looking at the animal carcases. Nice game. June 18, 2012
Dark Dimensions: City of Fog In terms of graphic, this game offers one of the best out there. It's creepy, dark, and really fit to its name. The storyline is not bad, too, you investigate mystery fogs and murder in a town, that sounds quite promising and new :) Some problem with the inventory, when you can't get it right, it flies back to the tool box, which can be annoying, as it has to be placed exactly right. Still, a fun game to play. June 9, 2012
