ERS does Edgar Allan Poe Beautifully Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's Premature Burial is the third in a series of EAP thrillers from ERS Game Studios. Who doesn't like a good Edgar Allan Poe story as the basis of a game? Especially when it means Inspector Dupin is back on the case and we get to assist! The opening and subsequent cut-scenes are well done. And we learn right away that there's a spirit on the loose and she's more than a little upset over something. We soon discover, that this spirit, as angry as she may be, is not the object of our current investigation--Victorine is..a woman who died under mysterious circumstances and was quickly buried, without ceremony by her rich husband. Even more intriguing is the person who has hired us to investigate the death of Victorine, Victorine's lover. (Hmmm...angry spirit, dead wife, secret lover...so far all very good reasons for someone to be upset) The story continues and unfolds very well. The voice overs for the characters are outstanding. The graphics and cut scenes are excellent and what we have come to expect from ERS. The music...well, let's just say it's best if you play without the music. The greatest disappointment to me in this game were the HOS. I thought the art work in the scenes to be substandard, items were not readily identifiable or listed incorrectly, plus there was a level of "clicky-picky" that got to be very frustrating in the interactive HOS and all interactive graphic scenes in the game as well (trying to put objects on tables, etc.). Most of the puzzles are easy to medium, but they were unique and interesting and fun to play. Total play time for me using the mode where the skip/hint button recharges more slowly and active zones are not highlighted, using no hints and no skips and no Strategy Guide was 4.0 hours. The bonus game added an additional 1.0 hour, for a total of 5.0 hours game time. The bonus game does NOT affect the ending of the game and will not diminish the enjoyment of those who decide to purchase the Standard Edition, which is what I recommend. November 14, 2011
DEVIATION FROM THE BORING HIDDEN OBJECT This was a great game. The hidden object scenes were only there to get ahead in the game or provide clues, they weren't the object of the game. I'm heartily sick of hidden object, but this game was a great puzzle game as well. Really worth buying!! November 14, 2011
Beautiful Graphics And Engaging Storyline This game isn't quite as good as the others in this series (Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe`s Murders in the Rue Morgue and Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's The Black Cat), but it still provides plenty of HOG/Puzzle entertainment. The graphics are beautiful. The characters were all voiced and well acted which adds a lot to the story and atmosphere. The game wasn't quite as long as I would have liked, even with the Bonus content in the Collector's Edition. November 18, 2011
"Excellent Mystery HOG" An excellent use of a classic Edgar Allan Poe story. Though not particularly long, the bonus features made it worth the buy. The graphics were all extremely well done, and I very much enjoyed the voice acting that accompanied them. November 13, 2011
Better than ever! Every Dark Tales I have ever played I have truly enjoyed. This latest edition is no exception. The gameplay is intriguing and challenging. The graphics and sound is excellent. Finally, I believe this to be the best Edgar Allen Poe edition BFG has released so far. Great job. November 18, 2011
good game love to play ERS games but now with all the going back and forth in the games I at times need a hint. I donot like going to the walk through just to see what to do next. So now if there is no hint button I do not buy. May 8, 2013
My Favorite of the Dark Tales The initial movie-like quality of the visuals is eye-popping. Hearing the dialogue spoken by the characters makes it more personal than just reading a conversation. The Poe mythos suffuses every scene and immerses the player in the mystery of the tale with deliciously dark ease. However, finding the HOs can be daunting due to the objects being buried in dark smudges, clouds and dim scenes. Furthremore, I would have been frustratingly lost much of the time had it not been for the Hint button, as solving the challenges presented throughout the game were daunting. (I marked the Level of Challenge as "Excellent" - 5 notches - but the slant is not positive. The 5 notches represent, more to me, the level of difficulty and frustration.) Sadly, I purchased the SE of this game and my enthusiasm waned due to the difficulty of trying to navigate through the solutions. Had I stayed with the CE, I am certain I would have enjoyed my experience a great deal more. January 25, 2012
Great game Love this one in the series, love the story, the plot and the graphics kept me going, could not stop playing from the beginning to the end. December 3, 2011
Good Game Except for HOS This game would have been outstanding except for the HOS. The sound and cut scenes were all great. The graphics were great except for the HOS. The HOS scenes were dark, objects were difficult/impossible to find and some were mis-identified. For example, a "bowl" actually looked like a goblet and a "goose" actually looked like a duckling. Also some of the "use an object to find another object" scenes were extremely picky about where you clicked. The story line was good, but the difficulty with the HOS was so frustrating. About halfway through, I started using the SG to find objects and even it had some issues. The bonus chapter was ok, but not worth the money for a CE. I would recommend purchasing the standard version of this game. I really enjoyed Murders in the Rue Morgue and was looking forward to playing this game. Had the issue with the HOS not been so frustrating, the game would have been awesome. July 30, 2012
Wonderful This game was adequately lengthy and not obvious. November 15, 2011
