um, no.
I purchased this when it was on sale for the SE price. It looked like it was going to be really good. The graphics are amazingly beautiful, and the story line seamed like it had a mild spooky bend to it, which I love. It was wonderful, up until you fix the time device. Then, the device basically tells you exactly where to go, and takes you there instantly. This kind of ruined it for me, so I tried going on a "time device diet." The places you go are practically random; you really do need the device to tell you where to go. Sometimes, you can't get to a place without using the device. Basically, there are two options: wander aimlessly for hours, or get detailed directions without the chance to figure it out yourself.
Objects are not replaced in HO scenes you revisit, which is nice. There were a couple of items nigh completely obscured, and if you begin an interaction, you'd better know where to finish it because you cannot click anywhere until you do.
I'm very disappointed, especially since the graphics are mesmorizingly beautiful, both in spooky and non-spooky locals. Clicking on the little fire butterflies was about the only thing I enjoyed in this game. The character bought into the idea that her family members were time travelers far too quickly. The villain did not pose a threat.
In the bonus game, you save the main character from the regular game from a fire . . . I think. I followed the map, went where I was supposed to go, did what I was supposed to do, but I have no idea how fixing random machines accomplished anything. There was very little story logic behind the game play.
Shiver does a much better job with the inherit-a-haunted-estate story line. I'd recommend that instead of this game.

Definitely a Challenge.....and not in a good way!
Excellent story line makes you eager to find out what will happen next. The year is 1830. You have been raised in an orphanage. You are now a governess and having reoccurring dreams of an old mansion and an old oak tree that has a face. A package is delivered to your home with a note from a long lost aunt. You are told of your family?s estate and you go there to investigate. You are a descendant of the wizard Merlin. Your nemesis is Merlin's former student/lover. You are given a time traveling device that is used throughout the story.
There are two options of play, I chose expert and still got sparkles. I?m not sure why you are even given a choice as there seems to be no difference, the hint filled up fairly fast and the puzzles were no more difficult than usual. The HO are truly junk piles. Several times I would click on an item and it would not remove it (like a banana#, I would hit the hint and it would go straight to it. I would click it again and nothing. After several clicks #5-6# it finally removed it. Hint penalty? Not sure what to tell you, I clicked like a maniac and never had one, then out of the blue half way through the game BOOM, I got one, than two so, sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Okay, like I said the story is really interesting and the time travel adds a whole new dimension to the game play, unfortunately it is not done very well #IMHO). I rarely if ever use the strategy guides, however, with this game it was used constantly. You never know when you have to jump to a different time to do something. If you hit the hint it goes to the time device, but which year? There are 5 different years to travel to.
I started off really enjoying this game. Than when the time travel came up it became frustrating not knowing when or where to jump to. Half way through I was just going through the motions, using hints and guide without even trying to figure out what to do. Oh, and the ending ?well ??to be continued?.

Excellent multiple puzzle game
I liked the way you could play a match game in the hidden object scenes to help you find objects. It was a awesome puzzle-adventure, please make more like it. I look forward to see what you bring out next with your collector's edition.

hello? hello? what year is this?
in this hidden object adventure puzzler, you are esther, a young heiress who has claimed the family mansion. unfortunately, the evil witch viviana (the same viviana who locked the wizard, merlin, in a crystal cave for all time) has fixated on ruining the ambrose family -- YOUR family. why? in this game, you use time travel to find out what is viviana's problem and you travel back in time to fix whatever wrong your ancestors committed to outrage her so.
graphics: truly beautiful. the hidden object scenes were well done and the objects were beautifully drawn, although shedding a little more light on some of these scenes would have been helpful. a few of the items on the hidden objects list required some form of interaction or assembly first. one weird and incredibly annoying ?feature? of these interactive/assembly objects was that you could not put down a piece once you?d picked it up, so you were stuck finding whatever other item it was supposed to be used with before you could continue finding the other hidden objects. the puzzles are interesting and varied but not exceptionally difficult to solve. fortunately, most of the game was smooth and loaded quickly, although time-traveling took a little longer to shift scenes.
soundtrack: really lovely music. beautiful voices. but oddly, the voiceovers (which actually are nice to listen to) were frequently drowned out by the music.
storyline: whilst playing this game, i realised i am not as enthralled with time travel as i thought i'd be. basically, the same scenes (with minor variations) appeared again and again, except one version of each scene was much tidier than the others. however, a time travel device-map is provided to help you pop from one location to another, thereby reducing all that annoying back-and-forth. a journal is also provided so you don't forget what you're supposed to be doing -- easy to do with such an intricate game.
in summary: a very nice game with wonderful graphics and music, both of which TEMPT me to purchase this game. however, the time travel aspect is just not appealing, so it's unlikely that i'll ever purchase this game.

It was fun but...
This was an amusing game, but there are some problems I had with it.
1: The mini games. Everytime I came across one, I couldn't find the instructions! Some were easy enough to grasp, but most I had to just skip.
2: The conclusion. Unless you buy the CE, you won't get any closure. And even at that, the game ends too adruptly. Everything is solved, I think, but I'm not 100% sure because of the snap ending.
I do like how until you find the time device, you can't teleport around the place. You have to work for it, kinda.
All in all, I might not have bought it in the first place had I more of an idea what it was like, but I did and it wasn't a huge ripoff.

Excellent game
The CE is worth the price just for one of the HOS in the additional play--everything moves-really cool! Graphics in the rest of the game are very good.
Some of the HOS are interactive. If you pick up an interactive item and can't find out how to use it, a right-click releases the object. Some objects are easy to find, others are more subtle.
Story line is a bit fuzzy imo, but then time travel is pretty fuzzy, isn't it?
The time machine can tell you where to go next if you get stuck, hints are helpful, but not too much so, although hints are vague for some of the mini-games. Strategy guide isn't needed often, but does help for the mini-games with vague help hints.
Music was OK for me, although it got awfully boring while working on the harder mini-games.
Overall, this is a GREAT GAME!!

So much fun!
Tons of hidden object scenes, so that automatically makes it great in my book. I can't evaluate the sound, as I didn't have my speakers on, but the graphics are excellent. And, as I said, the HO scenes are perfect. I like the Time Element....it made it easier for me when I was stuck. I could usually click on it and choose another scene that needed to be completed. Overall, a fantastic game!

Fun, Challenging and not your usual HOG
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It's not your run-of-the-mill hidden object/adventure/puzzle game. It's unusual in that you time travel, and have an option to play a match 3-type game in lieu of finding well-hidden objects in the HO scenes. There is a time machine in which you can jump to the scenes where you need to find objects rather than running all over the place trying to find them. It's a long game and well worth the price of the CE. I can't wait to play this one again and I usually don't do this right away.
My only complaint is that in the Mac version, I was able to play the optional match-3 game twice without the game quitting. (It kept quitting on the match-3, so I just stopped playing it.) This is highly unusual for BFG Mac games; in fact, it's the only one I've had this problem with. But this is an issue for BFG tech support. It did NOT detract from the game at all.

top class hidden object game with fun
Normally I don't like to write review but i think here i need to do this work because this game really amazed me. i thought it just sample type hidden object game but while playing i invent this is not only funny also challenging. the game?s major setting is in the 1800?s, you?re first introduced to a dilapidated, abandoned mansion, a ghostly spirit is haunting your travels and the game is quite moody overall You will get high quality graphics and sound quality in this game. The storyline also very hard, you need to provide full attention during play this game for successful mission. One think, this game conclusion is not expected, it can be better.

No Time for this
I am sorry to go against the general opinion, but I feel I cannot recommend this game.
I found it extremely annoying, with having to constantly switch between time zones every few minutes. I am not in the genius category, so without the strategy guide, I would have been lost as to how to proceed, and when and where. I don't like using the strategy guide as much as I had to in this game.
It is a great pity, as the storyline itself, and the graphics, etc, were extremely good. Only for those who don't mind these type of puzzles.
