A very mediocre HOG
After playing Time Mysteries: The Ancient Spectres and Nightmares from the Deep - The Cursed Heart both by Artifex Mundi, I thought this game would uphold the standard of excellence that the other two set. Unfortunately, Artifex Mundi laid an egg this time. This game really has nothing to recommend it over and above every other game out there. To be sure, the graphics are very good and the cut scenes are also very good. The voices are very appropriate. They captured the down east Vermont farmer accent. The HOS, however, are all over the board in difficulty. Some are very ?cute? about hiding items and others simply make everything too dark to see. They do have a wide range of items in their junk piles, and they will surely stretch your vocabulary and your knowledge of everything from occult to fishing and biology. One of the worst facets of the game is the travel. If I were the detective, I would charge my employer by the mile; my feet hurt from all the travel back and forth and back and forth ad nauseam. This was almost another really good game that took several wrong turns and ended up in the wrong part of town; the mediocre part. I thought that the puzzles, few as they were, were mainly very easy, or looked to be obviously worth skipping, but a couple caught my eye. The lock picking looked to be unique, but unfortunately it did nothing; I skipped it too

Overall Game
After I tried this game I purchased it only to find too many HOS that, for me, ruined the game.

Enigmatis is the Best!
I just finished playing Enigmatis. It is by far one of the top three games I have ever played on Bigfish! Fantastic! Every aspect of this game is superb. All of the things I usually skip
(cut scenes), or mute (voice-overs and dialogue) - I didn't even think of skipping or muting! Who'd have thunk it? Music can be very annoying when it is mediocre or repetitive - but in this game the music was dramatic and beautiful. I can't wait for the Grudzinski brothers to produce the sequel!

Very good game!
Challenging and interesting game. The HO scenes, puzzles, evidence board and cut scenes make this game what it is. Well worth the purchase and hope to see more games like this.

Excellent
I actually really liked this game. It was very intriguing as you unravelled the mystery which isnt over yet (ending said to be continued). It was also creepy in some scenes when something you werent expecting happens.
People in Maple Creek are disappearing. You are a female detective who is trying to find the most recent missing woman. The towns preacher is the only suspect, and your job is not only to find the woman, but find him because he is the only suspect.
There is a another suspicious detective you see and talk to a couple times in the game (Det. Hamilton). You play as him in the bonus play.
The bonus play was pretty good, but was little short. It does however give you the background of Hamilton.
Graphics were very good. Storyline was eerie, but interesting.
There was a very good amount of HOS. They were actually pretty easy (did have to use the hint a couple times). The puzzles were fairly easy with a few that were somewhat challenging, but none were impossible. The hint button is useful when running around trying to find out where you should be going next (there is no map). The Hint button also recharges very quickly as well as the puzzle skip buttons (if you need them).
Very good game. I will buy the sequel if and when it comes out.

Creepy, awesome game!
When I first tried the demo, it didn't impress me, but second's time the charm when I bought the game thanks to the President's Day Sale and I'm hooked. The game is really creepy and the ghost bell creeps me out. The game story is well-written, well-developed and flows nicely. There are tons of HOG and sometimes I am frustrated with them, because they are a bunch of items, not junk, but I found them hard to find. There is no interactive map, sadly, while there's a lot of backtracking. The bonus chapter is one of the best I have seen in many CEs. Kudos to the dev. (Artifex Mundi) and hope they will release a sequel soon.

GOOD STORYLINE - YOU LINK THE CLUES
Long game. You are trying to find out what happened to women who have disappeared in Maple Creek, following the footsteps of another detective. You have an evidence board on which you sort and link clues to determine what has happened. Your journal adds additional information to your clues and found evidence. Map shows where activities are possible, but it is not interactive ? too bad because sometimes, there are many, many clicks to get to where you?re going. Voiceovers are pretty good. Scattered puzzles vary in difficulty. Beautiful graphics. Short bonus chapter.

Hidden Object???
At every darned turn! I like a game with a story to it and I like hidden object scenes as long as they don't overrun the game. There was a hidden object scene in this one every couple of minutes. After awhile you find you're just looking for objects instead of playing the game itself.

Complex, wonderful, intriguing game
I loved everything about this game--the setting, which was decidedly spooky and atmospheric, the story, which actually engaged me and kept me involved (a rarity in these games--typically I lose the story line somewhere along the way due to lack of interest), and the puzzles, which were neither too easy nor too difficult, but just right.
I was so impressed with this game that I looked for other games by the same publisher (Artifex Mundi), and I enjoyed those too.
