Really good when the sound finally There was a "spooky" game sale, and I needed a game to fill a card....but hard to fill a card with there is nothing filling the I looked at the offerings for $2.99 I checked all of the games available and I didn't recall ever playing this game, so I downloaded the demo, and that all went fine. I started the game and, oddly enough, there were no voiceovers, and there should have been, and no sound effects...and there should have been. Having been through this sort of thing a couple of times with my computer, I did the uninstall - reinstall thing...didn't help. I decided to just uninstall it and play it if I was ever desperate for something to play that I hadn't played before. Last night, I renewed my Norton 360...went like clockwork..for the most part. I ended up having a little problem that it took a Norton fella to fix, and one of the things he did was update some drivers that I thought were already updated. Today..I decided to see if it made a difference with this game, and it did!! The game ran beautifully, and I'm very glad I didn't give up on it. The sound is necessary, as are the voiceovers, in my opinion. The demons and devils have wonderfully gruesome voices and the other voices are very well done. As for game play, it was really good. The story moved along well and I only had to flee to the walkthrough once. The color, animations, sounds, music..all fit the game perfectly. The story won't suit those who don't like games that include demons, devils, and exorcism..if you are sensitive to those things, don't play this game. For those who aren't, it's fun to travel about saving a very close friend from total doom. The game took me about 4 hours to play, but I'm slow and really take my time, so it might not take you as long. I really enjoyed the game for lots of reasons....engaging gameplay, good color and animation, good sound, good creepy music and sound effects. Try it the next time you're looking for something a little unusual. November 2, 2012
Great Supernatural Thriller! At first, I didn't like this game. The beginning at the church didn't impress me. I thought the graphics were so-so and the plot a little slow. But I came back to it and played a little more and loved it! Once I got to the exorcism of the girl and set off for the dark mansion, the game really took off. The graphics seemed better too. Lots of scenes to explore, not an excessive amount of HOG's which is good. The score is appropriately moody and creepy. The game could have benefited from voice-overs though, but this is minor. My main complaint is the lame use of the Necronomicon and a weak Lovecraftian theme. Don't misunderstand me--I loved the idea of using the Necronomicon as a touchstone for the plot, but that lame combination of Lovecraft's Old Ones and Judeo-Christian demons isn't working for me. August Derleth would have loved it, but I'm sure Lovecraft is cringing wherever he is. The ending was a bit lame too. What in the world was that with the supposed 'hellish eternity' near the end? The developers really fell short there and could have done so much more with the graphics and plot. Overall, though, I enjoyed the game. Although, I might add, if occult themed games bother you, then this might not be for you. But these are the kind of games I love! Hightly recommended! August 25, 2012
Nothing new under the sun What struck me most right from the beginning of the demo, is how clear and sharp all the graphics are. Many are bright, other somewhat darker, but all are drawn with simplicity and a sheer pleasure to look at. That set aside the game is standard in every respect and doesn't shine by its originality. Played on Casual, the easiest of the 3 Modes, everything is pretty straighforward. You will have no problem going through every HOS, some of them more or less interactive, finding the useful items and using them. Idem the puzzles, which for that reason are not a model of challenge. There are not many of them either. I found the second one quite interesting though, but the others failed to arouse my enthusiasm. Am I blas ? I wonder. The fast recharging Hint System will show you the items as well as indicate where to go next and what to look for. As for the tasks, they are the usual ones, save a few that are specific to exorcism. Mileage is far from being excessive and backtracking reduced to a fair amount. No map necessary -there isn't one anyway. The voice-overs, with a typical, posh british accent, aren't bad at all even though they don't sound too natural at times. But the cutscenes come up much too often and are much too long, and THAT irritated me a lot, to the extent I hit the SKIP button at the start of each one. As a result, I am not sure of the quality of the storyline. It seems more like "how to exorcise in 5 easy leasons" than a plot cleverly thought out. In spite of the abundant ghosts and demons and a sinister intro, nothing is really scary in this game; in fact some things are rather amusing like certain actions you need to perform on the demons. The music is insignificant and the atmosphere could have been made more punchy, in the style of the movie "The Omen". I haven't played Exorcist 1 so I can't tell whether this installment is better or not. After one hour of the demo, I had reached Scene 3 of Chapter 3 -due to skipping the cutscenes; which means an overall short playtime since you have only 5 Chapters in all To me this game is worth 3 stars. But its easiness makes it a good start off for a beginner, or and interesting adventure for gamers who like exorcism or don't want to have to think too much, for a change, after playing harder games. Why me glitch toward end of Game I gave it a 3 for rating because I had gotten to the part where I had to give Garrett the Elixer and then I got the boot 3 times with an error message that game had terminated. I had no problems at all thoughout the game and when I got to this point it did it over and over. Re-installed game and that was the third time for me. I un-installed the game and asked for a refund. As for the color, sound and graphics I give it a good rating. O for the error glitch. Game needs to be fixed before I give it a recommendation. January 14, 2012
Just wasn't crazy about this game. Some games grab your attention and you just can't stop playing and before you know it, your trial time is up and you press that "buy" button cause you have to keep playing - well, this wasn't that type of game for me. I love HOG's and this would have been better, in my opinion, if the background story wasn't so long and quite frankly, tedious. Just tell me a little background (the game title pretty much says it all); tell me there is anything special to look for that enhances the play, such as stars, clovers, ravens, whatever; tell me if there are magical objects that disappear and reappear as something else - TELL ME THOSE KINDS OF THINGS! Okay, enough about what I didn't care for with this game, now what I did like - the graphics are great. The puzzles are good, the H.O. scenes are very easy. I had higher expectation because of the title - this is why I've learned that playing the trial game is best before buying. Not a game I would purchase unless it was on the daily deal. Exorcist 2 This was slightly better than the Exorcist because it was less spooky for me to play January 10, 2014
NICE GAME BUT Time: about 4 hours. STORYLINE: You are an exorcist who performs a couple exorcisms on your way to see your mentor at his mansion, who is apparently in a coma. You have to defeat Belphecor to have a chance of saving him. GAMEPLAY: Straightforward, although you do have a choice on which actions to perform first. Journal includes facts not in evidence, so best to read unless you?re not interested in the story. Voice overs are somewhat awful. Graphics though were very good. The HOS were nicely done and a couple of them have sudden scary surprises. Near the final stage, there were a few inventory items left which disappeared. Sort of weird. Although I expected the actual ending, I wasn?t satisfied with how it was actually dealt with. Nice story until near the end. June 7, 2013
EH... The art of this game was nice. But when it comes to the story line and the dialog of the characters I found that poor. I was irritable of the Demons voice, it was so deep and hard to understand (though they had subtitles), but all the characters voices and the main character that you play... it was cheesy. As for puzzles and hidden pictures, it was okay but easy. I did not play causal. I hope the game designers learn from this and make a better game! December 20, 2011
Alan Rickman? Not the best i've played. Came across a few glitches and didn't find it greatly enjoyable. Also, a bizarre and, I don't think, intentional, cameo from Alan Rickman... February 25, 2012
Good Attempt The graphics in this game are poor, which makes the game run slowly. The concept is good, and I'm sure it would be great if the picture quality was better. January 23, 2012
