Dark Parables: Rise of the Snow Queen 4.4 5 117 117
Another beautiful game from Dark Parables series Loved it! Good combination of different puzzles and HOS on one side and magnificent graphics on the other - beautifully designed locations, clear images and perfect snowy and cold atmosphere - nice music in the background, good voice overs - excellent storyline, you, as a detective, must find missing children who were kidnapped by the Snow Queen. In order to do so you must travel to her Kingdom and discover her plan and what actually lies behind disappearance of numerous kids . - 3 modes in the game: casual, normal and hard - optional tutorial - you don?t have a journal but there is a very useful map that shows your current objectives and areas of interest - hint is recharging fairly quick but if you are skipping puzzles that will disable hint button for 5min - HOS ?good, in this case fragmented object scenes, mostly clear, but there are some in which objects are harder to find - so many different puzzles, colorful and fun, I enjoyed every single one of them Definitely 5 stars from me!! One of the Best of 2011 This is an absolutely stunningly gorgeous game with excellent game play, detailed and clever hidden object scenes, interesting puzzles, and a solid story which will hold your interest. The developers have shown a tremendous amount of attention to the smallest of details. As indicated this beauty is one of the very top games of 2011 and should not be missed. December 30, 2011
Hidden Object Game with the Ooooooh factor. The graphics were wonderfully colourful and clear, but I can't comment on the sound, because I'm deaf. I can say, however that, unlike some games, this one didn't need a sound track to tell the story. The sub-titles had it all covered. The game itself gave me plenty to do and the puzzles were just the right degree of difficulty to let me feel a tingle of achievement once they were solved, without making me tear my hair out first. Heartily recommended. December 30, 2011
Another great Dark Parables game This is a really enjoyable game. Has all the Dark Parables items that made the first 2 so good. It makes for a nice, relaxing play. The graphics and cutscenes are stunning, the storyline good. The HOs and puzzles are above average without becoming annoying. Like the previous ones you collect the little bonuses which are always fun, and have morphing items which are fun as well. Also had a map which was somewhat helpful. Has different levels to play which I think is always a bonus. For me this is a very enjoyable play and will play again with the first 2. I ended up buying the CE which I really enjoyed, included a nice bonus play. I highly recommend this game and the other 2 as well. December 30, 2011
Maybe it's just me... This game is very polished and professionally put together from the lavish and absolutely gorgeous graphics to the the splendid music, the delicate little fairy tale objects to collect, and the unique if a little silly storyline. Normally I really enjoy fragmented object games where instead of searching an area for specific objects, instead pieces of objects are located a bit at a time until they form an item. As polished and professionally executed as it was I just did not enjoy playing it. The mini-games were repetitious and easy. There was a tremendous amount of running back and forth, here and there, and up and back - the map and beautiful graphics helped a bit in that category. Throughout the game several types of items need to be sought out in each area each time it is visited. For example, a "cursed" object may not be present the first 10 times through the door of a room but it is on the 11th. There are also other things to pick up in order to have access to the parables and get other types of recognition. Game play consisted primarily of moving from area to area to complete Fragmented Object Scenes. Once a certain number have been reached of the same object then a mini-game is played followed by a progression to the next chapter. The game was certainly beautiful, certainly well executed, and for me anyway, certainly no fun... For myself, I do not recommend the game. Folks who love the fairy tale castles, mystical objects, and saving the children, I suspect it will be a real hit. February 20, 2012
Blue Tea winner again I just finished The Exiled Prince and it was a very nice entry into the FROG category. Nice storyline, somewhat challenging searches for fractured objects, very good length and some challenging puzzles. While only having played the demo ( finishing with 20 minutes to spare ) of Snow Queen, I fully expect this entry to at least be the equal of Exiled Prince. If that's the case, then Blue Tea has created another solid entry for the IFROG genre. I suspect this game will enjoy solid support from people who appreciate this sort of game. The only demerit given to the trial period is not getting the full hour which is something that a lot of us are getting more and more annoyed at. Perhaps developers could start informing us that demos could be less than 1 hour based on the progress achieved and the skill levels of players. January 2, 2012
disappointing sequel I LOVED briar rose the first in this series, enjoyed exiled prince and was really disappointed in this game. I would have given it 2 stars for my personal taste. But I know all the people that just love FROG (this is all FROG scenes) and a LOT of them, very few puzzles will love this game. So will do my pro and list to give you info about the game, although you won?t agree on which list I put some items! Pros ? -Morphs on a SE which also lead to faster hint button -Exclamation mark on map, to let you know if something needs done -Collection of 5 different sets of gems to open up short parables in your diary was a nice touch Cons ? -If they gave us a map they could have made it an interactive map as the backtracking in this game, was a lot. -Repeating at least twice of all the FROG scenes some 4 times and random click penalty -So many FROG scenes, some straight after each other -Repeating of puzzles ? one puzzle was repeated five times, another 3 times!! -Very few puzzles If you love straight FROG, HOGs, picking up things, but not many puzzles then I do recommend this game to you. I don't mind FROGs for a change although they aren't my favourite but lack of puzzles, repeating them as well as the FROG scenes just left me as cold as the setting of this game. March 5, 2012
All that glitters is not gold Clad in a wonderful, shiny armor of sumptuous graphics, with a pleasant soundtrack and stunning cutscenes, this game is in fact a highly decorated iceberg without much substance. Apart from the usual hunt for useful objects that spices things up a bit, I haven't found anything in either the HO Scenes or the puzzles which might induce me to buy this game. At least in the first two chapters since the demo doesn't give access to the rest. There are too many of these HO Scenes anyway for my taste, all highly detailed, yes, but boringly repetitive. Spending a whole hour trying to find bits and pieces of items scattered all over the place, despite their being well crafted, having to go through the same sort of search over and over again rapidly becomes very tedious, for there isn't much difference, basically, between those different scenes as they all look alike more or less. This is not at all my idea of a fun game. Fragments, yes, that's fine, provided they are not hardly recognizable and come in small amounts. There seems to be very few puzzles; those of the first two chapters, by far too simple, failed entirely to enthrall me even though they have a slight aura of originality . There isn't a profusion of tasks to perform either and all are simple, not requiring much mental effort. I would probably have liked the game better had it offered a lot less of this type of HO scenes, switched between them and interactive scenes in which you need to combine items and open or move objects, added more interesting tasks, and supplied us with a set of good puzzles and minigames. So, where is the challenge in all this ? I didn't find it. As for the storyline, nothing off the beaten tracks either. A sheer pity, really, for the game has a true potential that, unfortunately, hasn't been fully exploited. To me the quality of the game as it is does not justify a purchase nor a high rating. Rise of the Snow Queen This game has many challenges. Although I only played the demo version, I did have to use the hint button twice to figure out what to do next. The map is a big help. I am buying this game so I can get thru to the end. December 30, 2011
I can't believe a Dark Parables game disappointed me! I love (and purchased) the other Dark Parables, but this one was sorely lacking. The characters were more comic book-like, very flat and so few of them. Very easy format, so it would be good for a beginner, but really no challenge or appeal for a more seasoned HO enthusiast. I think it's time for the creators to take a break and instead of just churning out a game every couple of months, they should review what made the series so popular, and then go back to the original formula.
