I like Edgar Allan Poe, BUT--- Great story line, but like so many new HO games, the writers leave you stuck in one location with no clue as to where to go next, and hiding a black object in a black shadow shows a lack of ingenuity. November 16, 2011
Love the Dark Tales series! The Edgar Allan Poe series is awesome and I think ERS does such fantastic work. I did the more difficult level (no sparkles, hints take longer) and struggled a few times, played the game a few hours for several nights and feel this game was totally worth the $$, it seemed to last a bit longer. Lots of walking back and forth but that is ok with me, beautiful music and graphics as always, good storyline and characters, skip options, all in all I think this was an awesome game, thank you ERS. Better than the other 2 EAPs This game is premium quality in every way. Graphics are so beautiful they nearly take my breath away. Each outdoor scene is hit by light in such a way that it looks like either a sunrise glow or a sunset glow. Little fun details peek out at you when you least expect them, causing a big grin. Play is not too difficult, but challenging enough to give a sense of satisfaction when something is figured out. Ten thumbs up if I had that many! November 22, 2011
Terrible game This game was incredibly frustrating. No hints except in the hidden object scenes, so no clues as to where to go next or what to do next. Many, many items mislabeled. A goblet was called a bowl, a ring was called a box etc. The skip button in the mini games took forever to load. I bought this game so I was determined to finish it but I will be deleting it from my computer now and won't ever play it again. March 22, 2012
Excellent graphics but better HOS language, please As with all the games in the Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe series, the graphics are excellent (the title animation scene is particularly well rendered). The gameplay lasts for a good amount of time - it is certainly not a short game - and considerable effort has been made to add twists to old minigame favourites and active hidden object items. The one complaint I would make is that there are many examples of the two cardinal sins of HOS: multiple instances and bad vocabulary. It is frustrating to be clicking madly on a there's-no-denying-this-is-a-beetle to discover it was that other semi-beetle-shaped-blob that was meant. A funnel is not a water can; an hourglass is not as much of a clock as a clock and why does that box look much, much more like a square cabochon than any box I have ever seen. It is, however, a worthwhile game despite these niggling little points. January 8, 2012
A great addition to the series While I didn't enjoy this game quite as much as The Black Cat, due to the fact that at times I felt lost as to what I was supposed to do or where I was supposed to go, it is still a solid addition to the series. The graphics and voice acting are good, and there is a good mix of puzzles to keep you interested. January 29, 2012
Excellent Third Game in the Series This game continues with the excellent Dark Tale's both in quality and in style. Some better visuals have been added to enhance the story, which is well written and executed. I still find the second game in the series, The Black Cat, to be the best overall, but this is an excellent addition and I really recommend it to those who liked the first two. Only quips I have are: addition of anachronistic items in some of the hidden objects scenes, and we get no clue what city we're actually in. Dupin lived in Paris, but it is definitely not Paris. Getting back to gameplay, it is easy to get into, perhaps a bit easier than the Black Cat but harder than the Murders in the Rue Morgue (I have played all three games on expert mode). There is nothing really to say there. The music is good, sounds are good, etc. November 26, 2011
ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THIS SERIES I have to admit that this is one of the series of games that I always look forward to. The Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe series of games never disappoint (frustrate sometimes) and lends itself to engaging you, the player, as an actual assistant rather than a bystander. The graphics, storyline, voice overs, interaction and inventory items are logical and instructive -- making the game play and thinking less stressful as to what do I do (or where do I go) next. If a game player reads and listens to the dialogues and points of comments, the need of using the walkthrough (for me) becomes less frustrating and less necessary; I found that if I followed my intuition, I was able to go alot further playing this game rather than having to frequently refer to the walkthrough than I would in playing other hidden object/adventure games. Dark Tales:Edgar Allen Poe This is to cover AL of this great series as many of us hav read the books & the games have ALL been top class & popular with us die hard HOG players, the storylines have been No1 & very well done,my only down comment is that like most games now a lot of needless going back & forth for one item to go back where you were to use it,this is obviously done to make game appear longer but with this series NOT needed, the game itself is enough & as I usually buy CE version the length is great without this needless part to it so hope in future this will be made more practical, nice creepy games Kudos to developers November 14, 2011
Great Hidden Object Game Nice storyline, scenery and music. Very challenging - requires a lot of thinking. There are many areas to explore, codes to crack and lots of mini-games. It's a very long game and keeps you busy trying to solve the crimes. The HO's are mixed with one and two-step selections. This is a very nice, well thought out game. The graphics are very good. The ending is very good. Enjoyed this game a lot. August 21, 2012
