Nightfall Mysteries: Black Heart Collector's Edition After playing if for the trial period, I must say that I was intrigued by the game and enjoyed playing it very much. Graphics are good, sound quality is okay. Voice overs are okay as well. I have the other games that go with this series and enjoyed them as well, but I like this one much better. This is a must buy for me!! I was so wrapped up in the game that before I knew it my trial period was up. On my way to purchase. Enjoy everyone. January 26, 2012
Not my cup of tea I didn't enjoy this game although the graphics are good and the puzzles challenging. I just can't get into it and won't bother to finish it. I regret buying it. It started good hence I bought it but the bathroom scene (without revealing any spoiler) really put me off... and from then on, I just gave up. February 14, 2012
Awful Graphics This game might have been fun, but the graphics were so horrible I could hardly read the letters on the HOGs. Very disappointing after loving the prequel. Giving up after the first half hour. January 27, 2012
Favorite Series The nightfall mysteries series is my favorite of all time. This series has an amazing plot line and if you've played the first two then you know what I am talking about. This one is no different. I have missed the evil Vansig family and am so glad they have come back into my life. I rarely buy CE's as I feel they are totally not worth the money BUT this one definitely is. This game has 3 difficulties of play. I am playing on the hardcore level with no hints or skips and I find it challenging but not so frustrating that I want to murder someone. I am able to do all the mini games without worrying about having no skip button HOWEVER if I did want a skip button the difficulty levels are changeable throughout the game without having to start over which is a definite plus for me although I haven't used it yet but you know there is always that one puzzle that just gets you...There are also special items to be found that unlock the bonus content and it will not unlock unless you find all of them so thats rewarding and the things are not easy to find let me tell you. The story line is just as exciting as all the rest only I wish I had refreshed my memory and played the asylum game again because I had played the opera one to death but only played the asylum one twice so I forget who Detective Thomas even is and he reappears in this game so I probably will do a refresher after. The mansion does not disappointment and is long. Just when I think I have solved most of everything, I have to go into another room or place and it always keeps my interest. The hidden object scenes are interactive, always a plus and the items are somewhat hard to find and since I have no hints right now...makes me wish I had glasses not because its small just because I overlook the simplest of things haha The only reason I did not give this game 5 stars is because its not wide screen on my computer. If it had been, it would have been a 5 star game but its pretty close. This game is so enjoyable to me that I have chosen to play it over spending time with my boyfriend LOL he understands my obsession so its okay but this is a definite recommendation from me. Cheers developers!!! So glad you back on the scene! This has always been my favorite developer =) February 6, 2012
A Good Finish To A Great Trilogy! I absolutely adored the first game in the Nightfall Mysteries series. I was disappointed with the second, and although this final chapter has many fine qualities and I would definitely recommend it, I am going to play devil's advocate. I ONLY write reviews of games I play to conclusion and this review is based on the Collector's Edition of Black Heart. I was thrilled that the plot tied together all three games in this final battle with the evil Vansig family. The game does stand alone if you have not played the other two, but it was a nice touch for those of us who have. This game has glorious artwork and the cutscenes are frequent and fabulous. I thought the voice acting was terrific, especially the vengeful Vansig clan. That evil laugh! You can hear Christine go from firm resolve to controlled desperation, and eventually sheer terror. The Detective sounds like he just wants to close the case, but frankly, Viggo is a bit of a dish rag. No wonder it takes three people to rescue him! The plot is very involved and has you moving through two distinct environments. Once you claw your way into the mansion, the real fun begins. The music is good and the sound effects change to match the scenes in the game. There are clever puzzles and lots of items to be tracked down. Hidden object sequences are clear and fair for the most part. Most have a few simple interactive areas and of course a useful tool or clue is the reward for completion. At first I thought none of the HO scenes were going to repeat. I don't mind backtracking, especially in a game as attractive as this one is, but it got to be a bit much for me. Also, and this was a shocker, it asked me to find many of the same items on the second go round. By this time my inventory is getting huge and I am getting tired of hauling all my prizes around. Luckily I have a journal and a fabulous map that keeps me on track. After a long, hard, dangerous journey I expected to be rewarded with another fabulous cutscene. But when I pulled that final piece of the puzzle out of my inventory and used it, BOOM! Thank you very much, we are all going to live happily ever after...Well, darn. No parade? No medals? And hopefully, no sequel. April 23, 2012
Great game from beginning to end! This was really a great and enjoyable game. The visuals were very colorful and clear and the adventure elements were excellent, with lots to explore. The puzzles were familiar but fun and were balanced nicely with hidden object scenes. The game was also pretty long, with a very helpful map. Although the story was not as well developed as the previous two in this series, I really enjoyed the way it was slowly revealed throughout the game with tapes (although a complete recap of prior events would have been really helpful). I thought the CE had good extras, with collectables which are always fun, a well-designed bonus, and re-playable puzzles and hidden object scenes. The wallpapers could have been better, however, since I did not feel they made the best use of the game's artwork. One important point about the selection of "widescreen" in this game (and most other CE releases). The widescreen option does NOT provide true widescreen graphics, only stretches and distorts the image across your screen - probably why some people complained of "graininess". The "black bars" so many people complain about are what make the images clear and put the graphics in the proper proportion (round is round, etc)...I do not understand why stretched screens continue to be acceptable (or even desirable) to so many people, or why most game developers have not upgraded to actual widescreen graphics at this point in time!! Always a disappointment in a quality CE game like this one, along with locked wallpapers... February 3, 2012
Nightfall Mysteries:Black Heart CE This game bored the living daylights out of me.I didn't play until the hour was up,i uninstalled it way before that. The graphics were horrible they looked grainy, dialogue worse the only thing that was a bit substantial was the HO.I didn't even want to know what happens next with this game.Don't waste your time and money on game that is really lacking and boring. Great game This has got to be one of the longest games I have played. I bought the CE and am so glad that i did because I would have been backwards and forwards checking the walkthrough. The clues are not obvious so its an extra challenge to find your way around. Some of the mini games could perhaps be more of a challenge but this didn't detract from the quality of the game. All in all a great game February 4, 2012
not as good as Curse of the Opera I expected much more from the third game in the series, and a CE to boot. The plot has holes so big you could drive a truck through them, e.g. isn't it amazing a guy in a castle prison can just send messages whereever and whenever he wants, including to the police? I also wish the developers would decide how the characters are going to look, this is the 3rd different look for them. No special fun things in this games, just the usual hidden object scenes and moderately easy games. If you are going to play it, wait for the SE. January 31, 2012
Terrific Game! After reading many of the other positive reviews, I will try to keep it simple & not repeat what they already said. That said, this game is excellent on all aspects of an Adventure/HOG game. The storyline is engaging, graphics & sound very good, puzzles are clear & concise, HOG scenes are great & non-punishing like some games, all the extras are there like the notes, hint system, etc. There are many areas which allow exploration, giving it a more open & less linear feel, which is good. And there's just enough to do to stay engaged. I thoroughly enjoyed this A-1, top notch game! April 22, 2012
