Good but not perfect! I waited for a new AoA -game and this doesn't disappoint me - that much. The graphics were nice as always but the Christmas theme was a little bleh when it's already February. Music goes to the same category, too christmassy and happy happy joy joy. Storyline wasn't that original and was too alike with the previous games storyline. It left a lot of loose ends! One thing I wan't to point out too is that regarding the powers you get, isn't the telekinesis one a bit unnecessary? I mean you got the lady's ability to make things smaller or bigger, isn't that enough to take out any obstacle in your way...? Anyway, summa summarum: good game which keeps you entertained without too much yawning, nothing more, nothing less. February 16, 2012
It's not a "hidden object" game if there are no hidden objects This game only contains about 7 or 8 'hidden object' challenges and the rest of the time its a puzzle game where you spend ages wandering around trying to figure out what you're supposed to do next. It was a big, unsatisfying waste of time and I don't recommend it. If you enjoy searching for and finding hidden objects for entertainment, you'll probably find this game very frustrating. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? VISUALS: This game had really nice graphics, with beautiful snow, a large, damaged estate, and lots of rooms and outbuildings to explore. I loved that I could keep going back to all the scenes, none were closed off once the puzzles were completed. AUDIO: There seemed to be only one piece of theme music that repeated itself, but I enjoyed it so did not mind that it was somewhat repetitious. The voice overs were quite good and were believeable. PUZZLES: were on the easy side. Did not have to skip any and did not have to refer to the built in Strategy Guide. Thank goodness, there is no annoying penalty for clicking on everything you see in the HOGs. FUN FACTOR: I truly enjoyed this game. It was a refreshing getaway after a long, difficult day at work. It was good but could have been better. I'm very honest when I review a game. I always wish to give the best review but I'm very straightforward. This game was fun and I did enjoy it. However, I feel that the music was a little too "happy" for the tone of the game. I wished it was darker and more creepy, like you imagine an old orphanage would be. I actually turned the music off because I felt it was taking away from the experience. I also didn't appreciate that the strategy guide was ONLY accessible from the main menu. It's tedious to have to leave your game and go to a menu to look through a guide. I got stuck quite a few times and the hint button will only tell you "there is nothing to do here" when you aren't in an area with an available action. One thing I loved was that you were able to use the children's paranormal powers in your investigation. I found that really exciting and something new. The graphics were beautiful and the layout of the game was easily manageable. Overall, I would recommend this game. I enjoyed it, but simply preferred other games more. February 19, 2012
Brilliant! Loved the hidden object scenes with a twist, brilliant idea! and the HOS were beautifully crafted and not just a standard copy and paste you can get in some games....lovely storyline and a good length bonus chapter, the only downside is, it wasn't a very long game compared to Grim Tales which just went on for hours and hours...overall a great game. something missing!! I did not enjoy this game to much. I cannot put my finger on it, but it seemed to lack energy or something like that. I just wanted to finish it, and move on.(rare for me) NOT worth the CollectersEdition price for sure. I enjoy acheivement awards for the games, but these were just basic, awards for just playing. I thought there were extra puzzles if you complete the game,(which I love), but they were the puzzles from the game, nothing new. May 3, 2012
Lots of fun I'm on vacation and was looking for something entertaining as well as able to come back to on and off without having to restart at the beginning should need arise. I always like games that have a human element with reason to carry on through all the obstacles and some degree of logic, which this game provides. This was fun. HOG's were reasonable and I liked the mix of the usual find it, versus match the object to where it goes. Liked the paranormal line without "overwhelming evil". Music was good. Not great, but not annoying. A few times I got lost especially late in the game about where a particular puzzle was. Most of the puzzles were decent especially as the game progressed. I always like the "bonus" stuff, like trying to find all X number objects along the way as a distractor. Adds a bit of challenge and reason to replay if I don't hit them all the first time. Overall, a fun game. Better than a movie and as I will probably play it again, worth the price. Buy the CE unless you are quite good or the "going back and forth to walkthroughs, even for a hint" will drive you bats. February 26, 2012
Enjoyable Really enjoyed this game, loved the twists on the HOS - makes life a little more interesting!! I did however find the game to be a little on the short side....had just gotten into it when it ended. Some of the puzzles were a little tedious, so always great that there is the option to "skip". Didn't need the strategy guide but did have a look and it was informative and easy to use. February 23, 2012
Sequel a good game, just not great Loved the first installment in this series and this is a good follow up. PROS - Great graphics, this is a must for me with a large screen monitor. - Hours of game play, about 6 total even with using the strategy guide several times during my DUH moments. - Puzzles were a good balance. I do prefer a little more of a challenge, oh the kind where you want to track the creator down and give him a piece of your mind. The last puzzle in the main game and bonus chapter where the best of the game. - Story line was interesting and videos giving more detail to complete the tale. CONS - Backtracking - I at one point looked to find a map I'd to of missed, something that would keep me from finding an object and having to backtrack 4, 5 or 6 scenes to use the object. - Bonus Chapter could of been a little more indepth, I felt like the main point of it was to do nothing but backtrack and catch fire flies in jars. - Map or lack of it to be exact. - HOG scenes, you repeated individual scenes too many times in my opinion. All in all this is a good game, hours of play and I would of rated a 5 star if there wasn't so much backtracking needed. February 18, 2012
Haunting and Beautiful This is a great game beautiful graphics a great story and just great fun to play. Your setting free the souls of the Orphanage and they are children except for their teacher and they all help you along the way. The game is done by Orneon a great developer that never disappoints all of their games are simply awesome. There are collectibles and achievements you get as you go along. I'm having a blast with this game there is lots to do and several places to go. The hint system is very helpful. Just a well thought out story and gorgeous scenery all the way through. Thank you Orneon and Big Fish for a wonderful hauntingly beautiful game. February 10, 2012
