Time Mysteries: The Ancient Spectres
Disappointing... poor ending, too many HOs
For most of the game, I thought it was pretty good, but toward the end it got really bogged down with HO after HO. It seemed to me that they needed to wrap things up but ran out of places to locate needed objects, so they just threw in a ton of HO scenes. My eyes are shot. I played the match games many times when I just couldn't keep looking, but even those were a strain on the eyes.
Some things, such as the fireflies/cocoons, were never explained or resolved. The story didn't hold together very well, and the ending! Unacceptable. I guess I was supposed to have bought the CE, or I am now supposed to buy the sequel. Well, even if I had loved the game, I wouldn't do that on principle.
Maybe some fishies want every game to be lengthy, but I look for quality over quantity and LOGIC over incongruity. This game got very tiring, made even more so by the extreme back and forth, and the constant need to find multiples of the same object, with each one strewn all about in unrealistic locations.

When does it become too much?
The game has a lot going to it. Great visuals, an intriguing story, and a helpful transporting map. Also the chance to skip HOS (for those who do not enjoy them that much) to play toggle instead.
It was an ambitious idea, going back and forth not only in space, but in time, to pick up objects in the past that might have been destroyed in the present. But it fell prey to the problem that games with too much backtracking have. You end up with a lot of stuff in inventory, and a vague memory of where they might be. Or just no idea at all. You end up looking at the map, and the map tells you where to go. At the end, it is the map that decides, telling you where you might pick up an object, that you have no idea what to do with at the tme, or bringing you to a place to put an item thaqt you had forgotten you had.
My impression is that I was more of an spectator than I player. I did not make the decisions, did not reach any logical conclusion, just went along to see how it ended.
And the toggle option has one problem. It may take even longer than finding the objects,
If you are madeof sterner stuff, you might enjoy this game a lot more than I did. I know I did not.

WHERE AM I???
Ok, I've played hundreds of BF games and I had to review this one because I have never played such a disjointed, confusing, wondering aimlessly till you find stuff type of game in my life. There is no direction given of when and if you should jump between 5 different time periods at any given moment in the game...it appears to me that you just,,,GUESS and hope you get lucky. I hate to read or write really long reviews, so I will sum it up like so: if you don't mind wondering around without much direction and discovering things on your own, and you like having the choice between HO and match3 games, AND this game is on sale, it's def worth the buy. But if you want a story that flows nicely, makes a lot of sense, gives you some direction and sense of purpose etc...move on. This game still manages to be quite fun despite the disjointed play, so that's saying a lot. But you have been for-warned.

WON'T BE BUYING THE CONTINUING STORY
Nothing is more annoying than to finally get to what you think is the end and the answer only to see these words"to be continued".
Good points - hint refills quickly, animation and VOs.
Annoying factors - jumping through the time machine from location to location. I like staying in one century. LOL
HOs - Fairly good with some items smaller than others but repeated at least 3 times to search for different objects.
Puzzles - Don't know how many but I managed to solve maybe two or three. All others I skipped.
Music - Didn't pay much attention.
Became bored and couldn't wait for this game to end.

Didn't keep my interest...
Incredible graphics and impressive challenges, but didn't keep my interest. Time period changes made the game hard to follow.

Nice game, shame about the running around
I really liked the time aspect - and how you could change the past. The graphics were beautiful, and I found the story engaging. My biggest gripe was all the HOS which would suddenly reappear. So much running around to find what was new in the game instead of having a natural progression. I eventually switched from expert to normal level as, at least then I could find out where I needed to go, and didn't have to look everywhere.
I expect the collector's edition had more time periods. There was a Moscow addition to the device which never appeared in the game.
And the end was kind of disappointing - to be continued? Did we save him or not?

All around very well crafted game. Traveling through time, excellent. Map also excellent. Talking to people in the game ...eh.....so so, wished the dialog could have been more helpful.
Graphics were sharp, HO's were just difficult enough to hold you for a little while, bonus here...it causes you to play a longer period of time. I was engrossed, and captivated by this game. Puzzles were well done, and quite difficult for me, but I mastered the general idea got through the puzzles. A good buy for anyone looking for a exceptional fun game.

It was okay but you had to use the guide to make any progress.

So disappointed by the end that it ruined the game
This game was fabulous! Great visuals, excellent challenging games, fun story/world.
That said, the end was so abrupt and disappointing that I can't give this game a good rating. I feel like I want my money back. I love a sequel game as much as anyone but this game has no resolution and leaves you so unsatisfied. It was like a crescendo that never broke. I happened to go to the gargoyle instead of some of the other rooms that had exclamation marks and he stole my time device which I never got back so I was never able to finish those other parts of the game. I thought it would take me back to them eventually but alas it did not. It's almost like the game creators got lazy. All the puzzles and hidden object areas were clever and challenging and then (what turned out to be) the final climactic end-of-the-game challenge was a cake walk. I just don't feel I can truly recommended this game.

Dark and Murky
I found the graphics very grainy, the music was redundant.
I did like the option of HOG or a match 3 game a nice option that I've never seen before.
Like all games I recommend that you download and trial. Not everyone likes or dislikes the same thing.
