Novel storyline but same old gameplay
Played the demo: Storyline & graphics were quite impressive but I quickly tired of looking for objects when, logically, existing inventory items should have worked. Or, really annoying, re-searching for an object that was used previously & didn't stay in Inventory.
Mini-games were challenging & some HOS incorporated a twist which was a pleasant surprise. Took me a minute to realize it wasn't the game being stupid, it was me. lol
I still recommend the game but please (PLEASE) someone develop a game that goes outside the box & doesn't use the same old formula.

Greaty story line and graphics
I really liked this game; I would give it a 4.5 if that was allowed. The graphics were wonderful, and it had a fun story line.
Something a little different in the HOGs was that sometimes you needed items from the main part of the game to complete the HOG. That could be a little frustrating at times, but it also integrated the HOG into the main story.
My one objection was that the hint command provided too much information. Instead of giving a hint, it told you exactly where to go. If I wanted that much information, I would look at the game walkthrough. Overall, though, the game is very enjoyable, and took several hours to finish.

Wow!!!! superb game, love it!
Fantastic game, absolutely stunning graphics, the best i've seen i think! Loved this game within seconds of starting it. The storyline is excellent and keeps you wanting to know more and more. Love the interactive HOS with the inventory items being used in some HOS, and the interactive map is a pleasure! no more back and forth all the time. The hint system is wonderful but does give a little too much info on what to do next when i'd rather just be shown the way! Love the idea of achievements and enjoyed collecting the flowers for a bonus game....you'll love this game, something new and interesting and the visuals are just stunning, can't wait to play again! :-)

Another good HO
This is a very well done HO - and except for the too small and too ornate font used for the HO lists, it is beautifully drawn. I also really enjoyed having to use something from my inventory to find an object in the HO. I played the full hour available for the demo and will definately buy the full version.
I Recommend This Game!

nothing new
I agree that this is the run of the mill hidden objects adventure game. Had to turn off the annoying voices, the environment noise, and the music. I hate when they put"actors" in these games, it just detracts from the game and adds nothing. I guess those who can't act, do computer game scenes.
Good things: 3 levels of play, ability to turn off annoying sounds. Bad things: plot, actors, hidden object scenes too easy, games not much challenge.

A Lighter HOG!
I was pleasantly surprised with this game's overall look and sound. Most HOG/Adventures are dark and gloomy, which I love, but a lighter one is welcome occasionally.
The storyline was the usual for HOGs-kidnapped child, an "other world," and the "hunters" from that world. This is ok IMHO; there is enough that's different, fresher, than the rest of the HOGs out now, to keep my attention.
I really liked the suspense butlding right from the start, which means I have to buy this one to find out what's happening next...lol. Mini games on the demo are not too difficult.
Great graphics and use of color. Many games that are set in the present day are lacking in the artwork department somehow though I can't think of an example right now.
Overall, I like this game--even the much-used story line. I'll wait for the SE, though, because I think, and hope, the game is long enough to keep me entertained for several hours without paying the CE price.

Disapointing
I looked at the reviews before i bought this game and it sounded like a good game but unfortunately i was bored sick with it very quickly. There is a lot of going back and forward, the story line did not grab me in any way.Their are some good puzzles which i found challenging and the graphics are well done. It really was the story line and the constant running around that spoiled it for me!

Good game, but didn't keep our interest
We played the hour demo for this Collector edition game.
There are adjustments for music, environment, effects & voices.
You can change the graphics gamma, choose custom cursor and full screen.
There is the choice of casual, advanced & hard core game play.
There are many achievements to obtain.
In the extras section there is bonus videos, wallpapers, extra mini games, music, concept art and a screen saver.
During game play, you can collect bonus flowers for additional mini games.
The game has real people as characters and cut scenes are done well.
There is a diary that has the option to replay cut scenes and the map is interactive.
There are 79 pages in the strategy guide, but we did not use to see if it was helpful or not.
The hint system is very helpful.
During the demo, we don't remember that there were a bunch of hidden object scenes. There was one that was interactive in the fact you had to use something from your inventory.
There were a lot of scenes that an inventory object was needed, but we either hadn't found it yet or were not sure what actually was needed.
The mini games were fun and the "pipes" mini game had a fun twist.
We will wait until the single edition is released and play that demo to see if we change our mind about purchasing. The game was fun, but just didn't give us the "what happens at the end" feeling of wanting to truly find out.

hmmmm
This one had all the makings of a really great game. The storyline seemed good, (your child disappears) the atmospheres are gorgeous with lots of color and detail, it had achievements to achieve and a side search for sixty flowers. So it was a good game. But I found that the storyline went off the rails a bit for me. Putting children's souls into dolls that are then alive? Okay. Also there was a point in the game where the army is about to come after you and Kiara, your alli, knocks something down to stall them and then tells you to finish your quest fast as there is little time. This definately added an element of drama however you then do at least five HO scenes as well as many other tasks so the intensity is somewhat lost. i thought they might have put this closer to the end. When the good and evil characters meet the evil one begins to rant and unfortunately his lips do not move in conjunction with his words. hmmm. So a few issues with this one for me. But overall it had some fun puzzles, a cool elevator and lots of inventory objects. Good length and really well exacuted but it misses out on five stars from me even though it is Elephant games... one of my faves for developers.

Awesome game!
I really enjoyed playing Surface. The artwork is very well done and the voice overs are excellent. The fact that you have to go through alternate universes is a plus to the fun factor of the game. The hidden object scenes are the "usual", with an unlimited click to them. The one thing I found interesting with the hidden object scenes was the fact that you had to go "elsewhere" at times to obtain the object (or something pertaining to the object) in order to complete the scene. Nice touch. Having a strategy guide was helpful, and I did use it a few times when I got "lost" in the game. The bonus content lasted quite a long time, which was also a bonus. Usually any bonus content is very short. All in all a good buy!
