WOW ! Enthusiastic story, excellent game!!! Immersive and very interesting story: helping to save the special children who disappeared in the explosion that occurred at the orphanage left me spellbound. Philip, the lonely musician, Robert, the fighter and his toy ... so, free trial ended,... I had to buy immediately! Very well done graphics, excellent voice over, great sound, intriguing characters, impressive atmosphere. Throughout story, you will gain "powers" that help you move on. Right amount of interactive HOS, not too challenge, but nice. Once you find the objects, later, in another scene, will put them in place. Some mini games are new and good challenging, others are well known and easy. Do not forget to collect the postcards! February 9, 2012
Thoroughly Enjoyed It! Mix of Hidden Object and adventure, it's an interesting story with lots of areas to explore. By the end of the demo my inventory was chock full of items I needed to place somewhere... LOVED it. I came across a hidden object area from time to time, but they made some of them different and interesting enough to keep me entertained. I find that if I am just clicking all over the place, then I'm aggravated at finding items. In this game, I wanted to find each piece. Puzzles I came across were not hard, but enjoyable. Good job developers! February 9, 2012
great game for us olds Having read the reviews I know it does appear to be the same old same old, however if you like hogs arent they all very similar. I for one enjoyed the demo and will definitely buy as I am 65 I do need a lot of help. Graphics clear and games not too taxing, just right for me February 9, 2012
The bonus game was a sore letdown... I loved Mystic Hospital so I was really excited about this game, but by the end I just wanted the game to end. However, since not everyone has played the first game, I will try to judge the game based on its own merit. As a stand alone game, it was a good game. The HOS were clear and they alternate between traditional lists with one interactive object and placing objects back into the scene where they would logically go (my FAVORITE type of HOS). The HO scenes repeat, though each time you will have to find/place different items. Items previously found in a search will be there again next time. In every one you will obtain an inventory item to be used elsewhere (these don't reappear), frequently to be able to solve a puzzle. The puzzles were rather simple but I ended up skipping 3 of them because my laptop ran them sluggishly (though it meets the specs). There are 33 locations in the main game and it's of a decent length. There are badges to be earned and a postcard to be found in each scene. The storyline was interesting with each chapter involving helping one of the orphans, who gives you their power when you succeed. So, to be fair, as a stand alone game I gave it four stars. It is a good game...for a SE. However, it does not live up to expectations after the first one. I can't really put my finger on why, maybe that it's too easy compared to the first one? The characters seem a bit forced? Because puzzles accept only one correct answer even if there is more than one (happened twice)? I just found myself getting annoyed the more I played and rather than be sad, I was glad when I finished. And as for the CE, NOT worth it in my opinion. You get a strategy guide, but you have to access it from the main menu and it doesn't hold your place. You can replay the minigames, but they aren't randomized so it's the same simple puzzle you solved before. The bonus chapter was awful! The puzzles in it were interesting, probably better than the main game, but there weren't that many. It was at least an hour long, however there was so much gratuitous backtracking that I was grinding my teeth after a while. As an adventure game lover, I normally don't mind backtracking, but this was ridiculous (sometimes 4-5 back to back backtracking to complete 1 task!). The main game has a satisfactory ending and though the bonus takes the story a bit further it does not get resolved!!! I may have been so annoyed at this point that I missed it, but I found myself just more confused by the bonus ending. So, in the end, as a stand alone it's a good game, worth it as an SE (not a CE). As the sequel to an excellent game it's a disappointment, worthy of only 3 stars at best. February 12, 2012
WOW Beautiful Looking Game Very interesting story: helping to save special children who disappeared in an explosion at the orphanage Beautiful graphics, excellent voice over, great sound, intriguing characters, enthralling atmosphere. Throughout the story, you gain "powers" that help you move on (loved the one to increase the size of objects). Two types of HOS - the normal find an object and a put the objects in their rightful place. The HOS are not too challenging. There are some new type mini games and the usual. They range from easy to challenging, Do not forget to collect the postcards from each scene. Finished the demo in 40 minutes - will probably buy this one. February 9, 2012
Core game excellent. Bonus falls short. I am much more careful than I used to be when buying Collectors Editions, normally doing so only when I can't stand to wait to keep playing. Such was the case with the latest offering from The Agency of Anomalies. Demo ran out and off I went to buy. :D Graphics are great, though the wide screen option pillar boxes. I look forward to the day wide screen actually is the norm. The music was wonderful and the voice acting excellent on all characters. Gameplay was unique utilizing special abilities you pick up as the game progresses. Adventure puzzling was intuitive and logical for the most part, a big plus. There was a lot of room to room, so those of you who don't like wandering be warned. No Mini-Games were repeated and most were fun, though a couple were too easy in my opinion. Hidden object were logical junk piles, in other words nothing out of place or floating, weird sizes, etc.You do return to the same Hidden Object scenes a few times, though what you are looking for doesn't repeat. My very favorite type of Hidden Object is found here as well - where you return objects to the scene like put the candle back onto a candle stick and then add a match. These did get simpler as the game wore on, but still enjoyable. Ok, so now the downside: perhaps because the game was excellent it accentuated how seriously the Bonus Adventure fell short. Repeated puzzles that weren't terribly enjoyable the first time, including one that requires fast hand eye coordination AND you end up having to do it 3 times. Groan. This is definitely a "wait until SE" game, unless, like me, you want it nooooow. ;) February 10, 2012
Sequel falls short I'm not quite sure how to rate this one. I have the first game and enjoyed it, so I was expecting something similar but better. It is quite different. Somehow light rather than dark storywise. You are sent to a paranormal school to see what has happened to the teacher and her young students. The graphics are nice, clear and bright, for a place that was destroyed by fire. I thought the cutscenes were really good, grainy and dark. The voice overs are pretty good as well. The music was awful (seemed cheerful to me), I finally turned it off. It has 2 modes of play, and there are 5 chapters plus the bonus. The HOs were the standard junkpile with some interaction, but they were bright and crisp for the most part. In some HOs you replace the items. The puzzles were rather easy but not bad. There are 33 postcards to collect. You also get the abilities of those you save and you collect achievements. The devs seemed to want to appeal to everyone with a little of this and a little of that. Even with all that I would consider this game an HO with some adventure. The play was good, although it seemed a little...incomplete. There were a lot of scenes visited at least 10 which seems like a lot, but maybe that's because there wasn't a lot to do in each. I did finish the demo in about 35 minutes so for me the length isn't worth the CE price. I may buy the SE when it is available. I am recommending the game because it was fairly interesting play, but this is only based on the demo. February 9, 2012
Excellent game and a dual release! This is an excellent game--good follow-up for the first one. There is a bit too much hand-holding ("I can use this to xxxxx" before you've even seen xxxxx) but not enough to keep me from purchasing the game. I love the twist on the scenes where you put things into it instead of taking them out! Thanks to the devs and BF for making it a dual release so I can buy the Mac version right away! Conditional rating Just finished the demo. Will be purchasing but am not sure whether I'll buy the CE or wait for the SE. The main reason is that the game looks like it will be fairly short. Not sure if I want to risk a disappointing/missing SE ending, or if I want to risk paying the CE price for only a couple hours of play. Storyline, graphics and sounds - I can't speak to the music as it was switched off - are all very good. There are two levels of play to choose from. Hints are specific and helpful. Navigation and controls are smooth enough that they are unnoticeable. There is a focus on the HO scenes, but they are fairly easy to navigate and offer some interactivity. Some HO scenes require the player to replace objects, which keeps them from being quite as repetitive so far, even though the scenes are replayed. Puzzles and actions are mostly pretty standard, but there seems to be a good mix of puzzle types. Difficulty level is fairly easy but not boring. The best part is that the game offers different ways of interacting with objects as it progresses. I was not a fan of the first in this series, partly because of a frustrating Hint system and routine, repetitive gameplay, but mostly because of the rushed ending of the SE version. The first two items are definitely much stronger in the trial for this game - here's hoping for a full ending as well. February 9, 2012
Just about average I haven't tried the previous one in the series but this sequel seems okay. - good graphics and great cutscenes - professional voice-overs - easy minigames though neither new nor extraordinary - some adventure but emphasis is placed on HO Scenes - HO Scenes are the usual pile of junk, but are interactive - tasks present no novelty either - you earn achievements and collect some of the character's abilities Considering the point I got to in the demo, the game is probably quite short. All in all, not good enough for a CE. I am waiting for the SE to decide. February 9, 2012
