Excellent Production, not as creepy as the first
I loved Shiver, Vanishing Hitchhiker, and was very excited when this game was released. This game certainly doesn't disappoint, but I didn't experience that same 'jump' factor I got from the last game.
What I liked: the atmosphere; the puzzles were challenging; the game had me hooked all the way through
What I didn't like: the backstory behind the family lineage and the motivations behind the murders was frankly, boring. You pick up all these pages around the island that reveals this story, but good luck remembering all the details, or caring about it afterward. There could also have been many more puzzles - it felt a little like inventory pixel-hunting with a few HO Scenes and puzzles thrown in to keep it interesting.
Also, if you are eager to play this, I recommend you buy the Collector's Edition - purely because the bonus is actually some of the best, most challenging gameplay of the whole game, and the ending is revealed only at the end of the bonus. I hope the developers don't continue to do this in the future though...bonus should be just that, a bonus. I think it's kind of a money-grab if the expectation is that bonuses are necessary to concluding a story or comprising the bulk of the best gameplay.

So far so good!
I've only tried the free demo, but have enjoyed this game very much. I am a "story" player who likes my games to feel like a good novel, and so far this is shaping up to be one of those games. Great music and a wonderful opening scene. HOS seem just "so-so", and I haven't encountered a puzzle yet, but from the beginning, I think it's going to be a winner. I'll write more as the game progresses. A good "read"!

good, could have been better
When I saw a second Shiver offering I was pleased since the first in the series is a very good HOG. After completing the demo of Poltergeist I am not as enthused. Started out well with a voiceover for Chellini and then with the butler. But Chellini never has a voice for the rest of the demo. Not good devs. So then we must get into the mansion but the doorknob is in a dirty fountain ??? Are devs running out of ideas so fast that we must suspend all logic during a game??
The storyline is no different than the fare we usually get these days in our HOGs. This is getting old too. The HOG scenes are ok, nothing special and the puzzles in the demo are run of the mill. Lots of running around within the mansion so I hope Chellini has a good pair of shoes on. Overall I am of the belief that devs want to churn out new games at such a rapid pace that quality is taking a back seat to quantity. That's sad. These guys must remember that staleness leads to boredom and boredom leads us players to doing something else entirely. I give the game a mild recommendation but only as an SE.

FRUSTRATING BEYOND BELIEF
This game commits the cardinal sin, in my opinion. It jumps you all over the place until you have no idea where you are or where you need to go. Instructions like the following in the included Strategy Guide are a prime example: "Back out five (5) times then go right and down the hatch." No matter how good everything else in the game is, these tactics take all the fun and enjoyment out of it. I used the hint button continuously to get me to the next active location. Perhaps if the game came with a map where you could quickly go to the next location, then it would be better. The only reason this game is so long is because you spend 3 times the time going from place to place as you do actually playing any HOS or puzzles. And the included strategy guide was basically useless, at least for the bonus play chapter, where I used it the most.

predictable
This one was just okay for me. The storyline was predictable as was the ending. There wasn't much interaction with anyone really. A few very brief conversations with the butler but that was about it until the end. The other thing that I didn't like was the lack of color. Everything seemed to grey and brown. There were a lot of dark rooms that you had to use your flashlight in also. I did like that the HO scenes were the exception to that and were brighter, clearer.and a bit more colorful. And I did like the creepy feel and that the storyline, however predictable, was front and center throughout.. The opening really sets the stage for the mystery quite well. I played the CE and you definately needed the extra chapter to finish the story. All in all despite the dull dark colors I did like this one and even played the extra chapter which I quite often dont. It had a good creepy feel, lots of inventory objects and held one's interest

Okay I guess....
Great visuals. Storyline was weak. This game is almost all HOG of the junkpile variety and pick up items to use later. Very few puzzles...I prefer about half and half puzzles to HOG, so that is why my rating is not higher.
I played the CE, and I was very disappointed with the bonus play. Don't want to give spoilers but none of the items was used in a logical way...I had to use the walkthrough just to get through it. I would be carrying 3 things that would work in a given situation, but instead the game wanted something really wacky. And the bonus chapter did not really wrap up...it just kind of...ended.

AMAZING!!!
I absolutely LOVED this game from start to finish. I have been a long time player of Adventure games but Poltergeist could be the start of an entirely new experience in this genre of games. The graphics were nothing short of astounding... at times the game appeared to be happening in 3D. The music and visual quality were flawless, heightening the suspense of the game and driving the storyline which was constantly moving forward. One of the best experiences I've had in a long time. BRILLIANT execution on every level imaginable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

Hauntingly beautiful
One of the best games I've played on Big Fish...and a lot of the fun factor is to be lain at the door of the composer for this game. The music (along with beautiful scenery) really set the tone. I get chills just walking through sections and hearing the crescendo of sounds. Very reminiscent of Zork Nemesis. Gameplay was good. Some of the puzzles were a little less challenging and more legwork/clickwork, but that's o.k. and gives your brain a bit of a break now and then. Once I started, I couldn't stop until I'd finished the entire gameplay.

Loved this game!!!!!!!!!!!
The game was dark but interesting! I like when you have to use the flashlight or things that you found to get through the puzzle in other ways than just the norm. I will continue to buy this line of games. It's my favorite game in the year that I have been buying games from Big Fish!
