WOW!! A Lovely Creepy Game Only completed the demo and the 57 minutes just flew. Storyline very intriguing - solve the mystery of the isle (who is that shadowy figure) and find the kidnapped journalists. Graphics superb - music appropriately creepy and wonderful sound effects (lightning, rain). HOS beautifully drawn and uncluttered. A mixture of straight list and use of inventory items. Not that difficult to find anything. Great use of objects and the resultant effect - monkey climbing the drain pipe - the cannon exploding. Some mini-games - matching segments of the ladder, matching notched rods - not difficult. There are the usual achievement awards - finding objects in one minute, not skipping puzzles etc. 50 owls to collect - they can be found anywhere including HOS (not in the object list) so you need to look carefully in each scene/area. There is an in - game strategy guide if necessary but hints are useful and fill quickly. A very enthralling game and with the extra content probably worth the price of the CE. March 1, 2012
very enjoyable game - bonus gameplay review at bottom I am going to be slightly harder on this game purely because Elephant raised the bar with their last game ? surface - mystery of another world. Here they took a step down from that level and after just finishing surface, I can?t help being slightly disappointed in this game compared to surface. BUT compared to raincliff I think it fares well, in some aspects it is better (map). All 3 of this series (the void, raincliff and now this) have gotten better and I have really enjoyed all of them. But I did prefer raincliff setting, the midnight blue - makes it look like every other good HOPA out there, although it does have colour in outdoor scenes throughout. I enjoyed the live actors, and live animals it is one of the things that make it stand out from the crowd. Although in a couple of cut scenes, the opening being the worst, the lip synch is so way off it is annoying. But most cutscenes how they are done you don?t see their lips. I love Elephants graphics in their games, crystal clear, no wash on them. But those like myself who hate sparkles will be disappointed. I played on hardcore and I still had sparkles on hidden object scenes (in surface no sparkles on middle setting!) MAP AND LOCATIONS The GOOD ? - It has the transporter map, which makes a HUGE difference and raincliff didn?t so that?s a step up. -It also has an exclamation mark in areas that things still need done in. If you hover over it, it will also tell you what it is. The BAD One of the major things that set ?surface? apart, was the variety of the look and feel of different locations as well as the sheer number of them. In ?surface? each chapter was completely different and you never revisited previous chapter scenes even at the end, it was all new. Sadly here not so, like most other HOPAs out there (including raincliff) you do go back into old locations. In black Isle, outside it was mostly raining and always dark. I like the rain it was soothing (apart from the thunder!) but maybe a chapter with the sun would be different. HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES The BAD - 99% junk pile and some bad junk pile. The GOOD ? - Non repeating scenes, -well spaced out ? don?t have one every time you turn a corner! -Use of inventory item is needed, although sometimes you literally put it in a scene only to lift it out again without interaction but most were well done - I lOVED the mini puzzles in some, would love to see more and that was my favourite thing about them. PUZZLES The BAD - Sadly most/all were easy. The GOOD ? Even though most were non original it was a good face lift. I haven?t seen the bee puzzle in ages, loved that but would have liked to have seen it harder, and bigger. I loved the unique take on ?spot the difference? took an old and boring (to me!) game to a new level. I did enjoy the puzzles but please make them harder! And even though they were easy, some did take some time which was good. RE plot I can?t say anything or it would be a spoiler. It?s not a person disappeared case, which you realise quite quickly but a spin on it. Vague *spoiler* for type of ending - Ending for main game, I don?t like those kind of endings personally. Everything was 100% wrapped up and then.. It wasn?t a ?to be continued in the bonus' but very close. I personally would prefer they didn?t say anything if I was a SE player. BONUS GAMEPLAY ? Timed myself 1hr 30 mins no skipping puzzles, on hardcore. Quite a bit shorter than the other chapters but I really enjoyed it. The setting is the same initial setting in the main game but different weather! Some new areas, revisit a couple of old scenes. What I liked about it was the puzzles, were more of a medium rating of hardness than the mostly easy in the main game. I loved the visuals/story it was funny and really enjoyed that part (by this time you don?t take the plot too seriously!) CE extras ? 50 owls ? you don?t collect any more in the bonus and they are in the H O scenes as well. Video ? That was really good. -It gave you out-takes and how the actors were filmed in ?green? screen. -Also, there was a really funny quick movie. (which I won?t spoil) -All the original intros they had for the movie (which I preferred!) and other actors they had doing the parts. This was all very quick, only a couple of minutes long. Music, artwork, screensavers, and the SG, and achievements. SE game time (not including bonus) is a hard one, as I normally don?t play hardcore (no hints, no skips, and only looked at walkthrough a couple of times) it was over 8hrs and I realised how much I must use hints! But my normal play mode (no sparkles, rare walkthrough, some hints) I?d guess 6 -7hrs. If you use sparkles and walkthrough well obviously it?s going to be under 5hrs I?d guess. Even though there isn?t that many locations, it does take a long time. Bonus play ?another 1hr 30mins. If they had no sparkles for Hidden object scenes, harder puzzles, different outdoor scenery, I'd give it an A. But then I don't give "A"s out often! March 2, 2012
I LOVE THIS SERIES This was a must-have for me as I loved the first two. This one seems even better! The storyline, graphics and music are all excellent. There are three modes of gameplay and believe me "hardcore" is exactly that! I like the interactive map, and the search for that "special" item. The HOs are clear and I love the fact that you have to use inventory items to get some of the objects. The puzzles are not so difficult that you want to give up. The only downside is the fact that the strategy guide does not keep up with the story - if and when I use an SG I don't really want to have to search through every page to get assistance. Even so this is well worth the extra credit. March 1, 2012
Brilliant! I own the two previous "Mystery Trackers" games, and they were great. This one is just as good, if not better! HO scenes are bright and colourful. I only managed to do one puzzle - which took me ages - but I did it in the end! Just buy it, you'll love it! March 1, 2012
Another win for Mystery Trackers!! Have the other previous two games and loved both. Not played much of this one but from what I can tell, it is as good if not better (for me) than the other two. Graphics are excellant but had to change the cursor as the game's cursor dragged a little, which is annoying. I love the fact that there are real people mixed in with the game. You have to find 50 owls (cute little things) in every scene and the transition between scene was very smooth. As said, only played a little but is definately worth buying and heartily recommend this game. I will probably purchase the CE later in the month. Enjoy your BF games!! :) March 1, 2012
Grand game... Was waiting so much for this game :D, played 30 minutes of the demo, casual. - SG not available in the sample so no idea about the length - 3 gameplay modes, Casual, Advanced, Hard Core - No notebook - A map, you can jump from one location to the other - You've got to find 50 owls throughout the game - Voiceovers - Very good background sounds - H0 are clear, you interact with objects from your inventory - Mini games (up to now) easy - Hint is very useful, even outside H0, refills pretty fast - Skip button - Intereting creepy story - A lot of taks to perform - Beautiful graphics Liked the first game, loved the second one and this one seems just as good, a buy for me March 1, 2012
A really enjoyable and accurate game! A new very enjoyable game of the ?Mystery Trackers? series. In my opinion this game has all the necessary features to be amusing, intriguing and entertaining. The graphics are really wonderful, it?s possible to choose the level of difficulty, the puzzles are neither too easy nor too difficult and all in all fully enjoyable. There is a well-conceived map which is of great help to move from a place to another one. The strategy guide is not strictly necessary, since the hints already offer all the necessary help and do it in a slightly humorous way, not just giving plain hints. I didn?t find any flaws to this game so far, even though I didn?t finish it yet. The plot is basically the same of the other games of the series; you are a detective who inquires on people mysteriously disappeared in a strange island where all building seems to be intact, but nobody is around, except a mysterious character hidden behind a mask. The character seems to have special powers, but?.we?ll manage to defeat him, of course ;^)) Sound effects are very evocative The whole game appearance is very accurate in all details and the plot is captivating. There are HO scenes, but not too continuous, and they need interaction with the items of the repertory. Definitely a buy! March 1, 2012
Awesome Game!!! I played the Beta yesterday and this game is simply anoher BIG hit! The Graphics were awesome, storyline is perfect and music was spooky and fitting. HO scenes were just right. I definitely Recommend this game!!! I enjoyed playing and being startled and the real-life looking beings. I never played the other games but realized what I was missing, so I baought one of the past Mystery Trackers games yesterday and plan to purchase this CE and the other one. Thanks Big fish for a truly great game series! March 1, 2012
A HUGE let down if you're expecting Raincliff quality As a stand-alone game, I would give MT:BI three stars. It's an average quality game that will keep you moderately entertained. As a follow-up to the epic adventure that was Raincliff, this is a tremendous disappointment. The plot is uninspired and characters are B-movie caricatures...nothing creepy to see here, kids. No edge-of-your-seat moments, none of Raincliff's atmospheric wonderland of intricate detail and high level of interactivity. I didn't think they would surpass the standard set by Raincliff, but I didn't expect that they would phone this one in, either. The random object hunting and ping-ponging back and forth between one dimensional locations got tedious before long. I found myself trudging through the last part of the game with the goal of finishing it as quickly as possible; I didn't give a flying fig what happened to the characters - except the dog; I liked the dog. I hope this is a one-off mistake in a long and successful series. The Void and Raincliff deserve better than being associated with this dud. Like I said, as a stand-alone it isn't bad, but I *knew* they had the potential for greatness. It's like that time when your straight A student brought home a D on her report card. You know she can do better than that. March 3, 2012
wonderful game (but it did not resonate with me) this hidden object story starts out in a dramatic way: whilst on the air, a TV journalist is kidnapped by a mysterious hooded figure. the journalist was reporting on the mysterious black isle that had been struck by an earthquake that, oddly, left the island abandoned but otherwise (mostly) undamaged. what happened to the residents? how can an earthquake that depopulates an entire island not damage anything? when you go to find the journalist, you discover that her colleague had already set out to find her and he, too, disappeared. graphics: wonderful. i was especially impressed by the waves as the boat approached black isle. the developers also include live actors and live animals, which is different. interestingly, there is no notebook, which is fine with me since i never use those things anyway! puzzles: not at all difficult. interestingly, the hint button was as good as any walk-through i've ever read, although it probably was not necessary for this game since it is not difficult, as i already mentioned. the hint button recharges quickly, and you can skip puzzles, although ... why would you want to? music & sound: wonderful, crisp, clear and appropriate. voiceovers were decent, not annoying or intrusive as they tend to be. i was a bit weirded out by all the rain and thunder and lightning -- they were constant! has global warming finally reached the gaming world too? storyline: it's a bit fantastic/dramatic, but ok, i'll go with it to see where the story leads me. my interaction: one hour demo, casual mode (there's also advanced and hardcore modes). now this is silly, but my favourite part of this game was spotting the 50 owls throughout the game. (yes, i am a bird watcher, what can i say?) my complaint: the cursor "jumps" around, which was annoying and sometimes frustrating. BUT the hardest part of this game was getting myself to actually like it. i tried and tried to like it, and then i tried to understand why i didn't like it, and i still don't know what it is. sorry, just being honest! despite my reservations, i recommend this game. i think most people will really enjoy it.
