Gem Boy - No Real Gem
Fairly basic story - boy gets sucked into TV game and has to collect crystals, unclock a portal and find his way home.
To do this you have to collect crystals by using a bat and ball (paddle tennis) to get rid of all the blocks in the time limit.
Very repetitive game (just smashing the blocks with a paddle bat and ball) with different patterns at each level.
You can catch spells (the useful one is the exit spell - finishes the level immediately)
Some of the extra balls are difficult to catch - especially if you are a little slow with moving your mouse back and forth.
There is a map to show your progress.
Graphics (relatively simple) and music OK.
I found this game quite boring after 15 minutes.

too short
Great idea but not really challenging. Had it finished in an hour.

read this...
Gem Boy is okay - reminds me of Ricochet..early levels boring but improve with power ups earned..but if you like paddle ball games, play Treasures of the Deep - imo, the gold standard and best of the best.

Relaxing Fun
Usually I'm a Match 3 person but sometimes I like a different kind of game. The problem with the brick smashers is that often I can't win them. I guess it's my coordination or lack thereof.
I did win this game. The main thing I disliked was that the instructions weren't very good. How do you put gems together to make other gems, for instance? After a while I figured it out but even the ending gem was hard to figure.
But... It's not a long game and it's winnable and the graphics are just fine and the power-ups were good to play with. I'll probably replay the game.
So, I disagree with the other reviewers. If you are fantastic with brick games, this isn't for you. But if you're just so-so, this is a lot of fun!
