Witches' Legacy: The Charleston Curse 4.1 5 105 105
Witches' Legacy: The Charleston Curse A good all round fun game. LIKED: - Good variation between inventory based puzzles and hidden object scenes. I find it gets boring when there's too many H0 scenes. - There are no annoying sound effects. Some games I've played they have the same sound effects going round and round which is really annoying. This just sounded realistic, with a floor board creak here and there, and the rain outside. - It was funny! The game had some nice amusing parts, for example, a live doorknob with a cold (aww bless!) and the cutest imp type thing which made cute little noises.....even though it looked really evil. - Good game length. Took me many hours to complete the game and that's with no skipping or hints. - A proper ending! Some games just end suddenly with no closure or explanation. This had a good ending, with an explanation of what happened and stuff. NOT LIKED: - There's a lot of back-tracking! Often you find an object which needs to be used about 10 scenes ago. Did get a big frustrating. - Live action. Not a fan of live actors for the characters. Find it a bit weird, but some people may like this. All in all, I really enjoyed the game and would definitely recommend it. May 15, 2012
A Pretty Unique Game I have never played a game by this company before, and I have to say that I was relatively impressed. It was not wildly different from the typical HOG -- save the family member from the evil witch -- but there were many interactions throughout with both spirits and objects that kept it interesting and entertaining. The graphics were decent and I the soundtrack was fairly pleasant (though it does repeat over and over again). The hidden object scenes were reasonable and interactive, though maybe a bit too frequent. The games were challenging, with a few I haven't seen before thrown in. Playing times was good too, lasting 4-5 hours. If I had one complaint, it would be that the storyline doesn't always seem quite logical or flowing. In really well done games, the player usually has an intuitive sense where to go next, what location is likely to yield the next find or what object you're likely going to need next. In this case, it felt at moments like you just go from room to room to see if there is a hidden object session there or something to do, and less of a sense of why you're going there or how ti fits the storyline. In the end, still a good game and worth the few bucks. March 11, 2012
Worth a Daily Deal VERSION Standard Edition full game DEVELOPER Elefun Games GENRE Hidden Object occult STORYLINE You discover that you're the last living relative of Lynn Charleston, an orphan raised by an elderly woman whom you soon discover is an evil witch who has murdered the rest of the Charleston family. You arrive at the manor to rescue Lynn from the clutches of the witch Elizabeth. I do wish the ending hadn't been quite so abrupt. There is a natural ending, but it could have been played out better, along with referencing the possibility of a sequel. Perhaps the CE did that. GAMEPLAY There is no map, so prepare for backtracking from room to room. However, the area isn't all that large so the amount of travel doesn't interfere with gameplay, at least in my opinion. Some of the HO scenes are repeated, but only once. The most innovative part of this game is that you collect fragments of Lynn's drawings which, when completed, animate to fill you in on the backstory and present you with necessary information. The drawings go into your journal, along with notes and other papers you collect. The hint system works both within the HO scenes and outside them. In the HO scenes, the hint encircles an object on the list. Otherwise, you're directed to a specific area, but not told what to do, which is nice. TECHNICAL I encountered no technical issues. GRAPHICS Painterly, but realistic enough to make objects recognizable. The use of color was excellent and added to the immersive experience, as did the animation. CUTSCENES Short and informative. MUSIC Quite lovely, and not repetitive enough as to be annoying. Set the mood nicely. SOUND Ambient sound was appropriately spooky and not overdone. VOICEOVER Infrequent narrative within the game, voiceovers really only occurred during cutscenes. SUMMARY While I enjoyed this game, I was also glad to have acquired it during the Halloween spooky game special. I would definitely recommend it as a Daily Deal. November 8, 2012
Very fun! I thought it looked great loved the music and sound with it . its a great game ! June 7, 2012
good game This was a good game and I enjoyed it! Some original and fun things, such an imp and a very special doorknob...There was a bit too much of walking back and forth from room to room for my taste and I did have to use the hint button at times just so that I could be pointed in the right direction (literally). A bit too many HO scenes, but the puzzles were good. The acting could have been a bit better for the real-life characters that appear in the game, but oh well, you can' t have everything. It was a fun game! June 3, 2012
I liked it! HOGs were good not over crowded but there were a few items I would have never found without the hint button. Puzzles were pretty good but admittedly most were not a matter of thinking through but trial and error. The art and sound was 9 out of ten. The mix of real life with the game was done fairly well.Although I just don't understand why the chose to animate the ghost instead of using a real actor. It kinda ruined the flow of the cinema for me.*loved the Imp and the little girl. The voice acting was perfect. The story line was pretty good better than most. The ending was a bit odd and abrupt. Over all a decent length of a game. You will need to use the hint button to find your way around tho. I found myself on more than one occasion 'well, where do I go now?' Thank goodness it doesn't have to recharge for that. But loved being able to get 'lost' in the environment. Lots of little touches that made the game a fuller experience. I will be looking for their next game. May 25, 2012
witches I liked the game. However it made you run from place to place a lot. February 23, 2012
Short, but Sweet! Despite the bevy of HOGs, "Witches' Legacy" is one of the few that will run on my particularly small Netbook, and I'm glad it did! The graphics are beautiful (even if I find the use of live actors a bit strange and a little too reminiscent of '90s games), and the hidden object scenes are extremely enjoyable, as are the other puzzles added in. There was a bit of running between scenes, but nothing terrible. The house (where all the play takes place) is laid out in a manner that mostly allows for ease of transitions, although there were times where I forgot where and when to go. My main problem is how short the game was! For the $2.99 special, I can't complain, but it would not be worth the normal price! The ending was abrupt and unsatisfactory, and I finished the game in a weekend, playing only at night in between dinner and sleep -- not a long time at all! March 25, 2012
my first review Hi. I have played lots of HO aventure/interactive games, but this is the first time I have sent in a review. I really like this game. It is not too dark and the imp is cute February 19, 2012
Witches Legacy - The Charleston Curse Another good game. The storyline was fine. This game was more difficult. The hidden object scenes were too hard. Normally when I have to use the hint button, I find the other hidden obects when I am waiting for the hint button to recharge. Not this time, I had to use the hint button too many times, and that takes some of the enjoyment away from the game. September 19, 2012
