I got lost and tired. Aaron needs to track his father, and you will help finding clues. The game is difficult, has no explanation and the hint does not help. For example, if you find a button and click hint, it says "you can use button somewhere"! WOW, Great help !?!?! I got kind of lost .. could not quite knowing what to do ... have to keep clicking on everything to see if something happens! It is tiresome get back and forth, and click click click with no direction ! And have to click on everything, because it has many things to collect in scenes. No HOS, only objects along the way. But after collecting them, it is difficult to know where to use ... as the mirrors or a coin ... Is a game of "trying", not of logic. However, mini games are very easy and very well known - rotate rings to form a image puzzle - with large and few pieces, etc. Has no voice over, no diary, no hint, and sound is a little gloomy, but graphics are very well done. Recommended only for those who like "blind challenge" and easy puzzles! February 21, 2012
weird I agree with the review from Brazil, i found it a brain drain trying to figure out what to do with the inventory items. Why would you have to put a coin in a mail box...really... No journal, hints were nothing short of worthless. i finished the first two portals and then gave it up as a bad joke, i like to have fun and relax playing these games but this one was just draining..... Try the demo before even thinking of buying.... February 21, 2012
OMG AND A LOL! I Give This 5 Stars Just For The Challenge! This review is based on the whole game. The story: Find Aaron?s missing father and discover the meaning behind his eerie paintings in Aaron Crane: Paintings Come Alive! Aaron?s father paints spooky images from his subconscious and no one seems to know what they mean. Suddenly, he disappears and it?s up to Aaron to track him down! The aim in each chapter which I believe were about 5 or 6 as I kinda lost count trying to figure the game out is to find a code to get through the portal to the next chapter. There is no choice in level of difficulty. There are some sparkles and/or a magnify glass for areas of interest. There is no journal or map. There are no voice overs, text on the screen to read. There are no HOS (hidden object scenes) There are puzzles Hint/Skip take about a couple of minutes to charge up for use. Now for my overall impression of this game: Well I was really drawn in by the story as i quite enjoyed it but I must say this game started off really rocky for me trying to figure out what to do and go next as I was about ready to give up after about 10 minutes I must confess but I stuck with it and once I got going which took me about another 5 to 10 minutes after this point I'm so glad I stuck with this game as I ended up really enjoying it. The graphics I found to be just excellent. Very well done here as they are nice, crisp, and clear. This is a game where you are just basically plopped down in an area and it's up to you to figure out how to move forward in the game. You have to carefully explore each area as you will acquire inventory items to use. The hint I did find somewhat helpful as it won't tell you step by step but just give a very vague hint. I also found the back/forth not to be all that much as it will state once an area has been cleared and nothing left to do. There's also some puzzles which I found to be pretty easy: Remember a code from a previous area to use at the portals, rotate the rings to form a picture, and jig saw puzzles. As for the length of the game it took me somewhere between 4 and 5 hours and I found that to be long enough. You may or may not finish it sooner than me if you decide to stick with this game. Overall, well I can't help but to give this 5 stars as this is definitely one of the most challenging and thinky games I've ever played to date. Oh but I must say and a note to the Big Fish here: I'm not sure why this game is listed under hidden object games as there are no hidden object scenes to this game. Not even ONE! This I would definitely consider an adventure game. As for recommending this game: If you are one who likes to "figure it out" with little to no hints well I think this just may be the game. If you are one looking for clearer instructions and a hidden object game well I think you will be disappointed. Thanks Big Fish and developers for one of the most challenging games I've ever played. I give up I played for about 30 minutes. The hints were very vague and sometimes did not pertain to the scene you were playing. The hint button was very slow. Once I did obtain a clue, I had to move several screens to use it. There were no HOS, so do not know why this was classified as one. I will not purchase and do not recommend unless you want a headache. February 21, 2012
Like it or loath it I nearly gave up on this one within 10 minutes of starting, but persevered and found that I was quite enjoying it. It won't be to everyone's taste but those who like to puzzle their way through scenes will enjoy it. The main difficulty with the game is actually finding where you can move to, the puzles themselves are relatively easy. The graphics are good but the music is a little irritating. February 21, 2012
I actually liked it! I expect this game will appeal to those who love adventure games like my self. Although a lot is lacking in this paticular adventure compared to the many large files that I have, it is a small yet appealing to those who want to work a bit harder and use those grey cells. The graphics are top rate and that really would be the one element that gets top marks. The story is what we are use to , boy looking for lost Father Yadayadayada so no great mystery there. There is no voice over, no map, no journal and the hint system is far from being helpful So why did I buy it (using a club reward)? Mainly because it offered a challenge to figure out where to go and what to do. There is no hand holding here and no HOS as far as I can see (during the demo). Although there are sparkles, no clue is given as to what to do. I really enjoyed that. Few mini games that are too easy, I wish the developers would have offered more of a challenge here. Basically this is really click away madly, point to everything and figure out the puzzles with really cryptic hints. I imagine those playing would apprecaite a walkthrough. I really cannot dismiss this game so I will recommend it to those who enjoy games like Green Moon (Which I loved and was far superior to this paticular game) and just have club credits or rewards to spare. For adventures gamers or those who want to try adventure games, I think this will appeal to you. But I will say this, it is far from being a superior game and the devlopers really could have added more work. However It had potential and I actually enjoyed myself furing the demo and want to see just how it progresses. February 21, 2012
Adventure At Last! Oh my gosh! What a delight to have an actual adventure game! Thank you BFG, developers, programmers and artists! I love, love, love that I get to find my way around and figure things out without handholding. It?s been a long while since a game actually asked us to think, and I am here hopping with joy. The graphics are crisp, colorful, deeply saturated, bright, nicely detailed and lovely. The soundtrack has a beautiful score and very realistic sound effects. The game-play is seamless. The puzzles are original, entertaining and just a little challenging, without being at all frustrating. The scenery, puzzles and mini-games are internally consistent and logical. This game is lots of fun and a very welcome and refreshing change from most of the games we?ve had these last several months. I feel like a starving person who has been given a piece of cake. Please BFG, give us more adventure game like this one. February 21, 2012
Demo review of Aaron Crane: Paintings Come Alive I just finished the demo and it was okay, a little slow for me. The game is a search of Aaron looking for his father through the paintings he created which he hoped help him get some clues on what happened to him. The story line is slow, as even during the entire demo, the father was not brought into it except through one picture. I'm on the fence with this game as to whether or not I will buy it. I'm going to wait until other players finish the entire game and review it. I have some coupons which I would be willing to use if the reviews were good, but would not buy it outright. If you like a slower type gameplay wherein you don't have to run around all over the place, this may be good for you. I can't say I would recommend it at this time, but at the same time I don't want to dissuade anyone who might like to play a game that is not challenging throughout. Try the demo first. This game has the same feel as another Aaron Crane game, if that helps. February 21, 2012
This is definitely not a HOG If this truly is classified as a HOG, it should be reclassified as Adventure only. Have only played the demo so far and I am on the fence about buying it, but I probably will. The hints are there. I find it interesting that the devs chose to incorporate most of the game direction into the game commentary. I know most reviewers here stated that the hint system was no help. You see, I also find it interesting that the hint system is an actual, honest-to-goodness hint system. I think many of us might be spoiled by having the hint system lead us by the hand. Or maybe that's just me. That said, you know that I definitely was cursing as I played. And then I used my little grey cells for a minute and tried a few things and usually, I said, "Oh, duh." Example, I took a hint after dealing with the mammoth and the hint was, "I can solve the mammoth puzzle." I said (yes, out loud), "What?!? Where in the (expletive) is the mammoth puzzle!?" And within a minute, I then said, (yes, again, out loud), "Duh!" If you do not like "adventure-only" games, you will not like this game at all. I agree that this is in no way the best adventure game out there. Once you figure out the game play, it is a bit repetitious; except you really have to think a little to reach the next portal. I thought the story line was weak. As a matter of fact, the weak story line is exactly what has me on the fence about buying this one. It is hard to finish viewing or doing any form of entertainment if you aren't invested in the outcome, let alone in the path leading to the outcome. (Note to developers) I don't think I have anything to add that other reviewers haven't already said. So maybe I'll go click Buy Now because I am bored and want to play a new game. February 21, 2012
Enchanting, original & crazy-fun... A lively pure adventure, the game is about figuring out how to use inventory to solve tasks at hand. Thus, few traditional puzzles & zero hogs (yay!). Thinking outside the box to solve quests is a fun & rewarding challenge. The game is not easy. It bursts with creativity, from the tasks we do to the magical creatures we meet. There may be a learning curve. Some tasks are kind of crazy: animals need our help, odd things need repairing, secrets need uncovering & so on. It's such fun! Though the main story hardly makes any sense, each chapter is compelling on its own. Music & graphics are good & the jigsaw paintings are beyond gorgeous. While to some it may seem short at 4+ hours IF no SG usage, it's a 1st-class escape into a fantastic dream world that I'd take any day over longer same-old. More like this, please. February 29, 2012
