Thumbs up! I was pleasantly surprised at this game. It was much better than I anticipated. The storyline was okay, the graphics are really well done and so are the cut scenes (many of them). I like the way it sets the story up for you in the beginning. I really didn't need to use a walkthrough because the hint system is so good and doesn't take very long to reload. It's not a difficult game. It was so interesting I was drawn in before I realized it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is an adventure/HOG and is a decent length. The puzzles were not very difficult, but I don't mind that. I like it when there are voice overs instead of text to read and wish this game had voice overs. It's nice to see some good games that are not CE, although I love CE games too. Yes, there were a lot of the same things we see in all these type of games, but it was done very well and worth the purchase. February 25, 2012
Packs a punch for a SE My review is based on 4 hours on gameplay and I'm not finished yet! And I am a fairly quick player... Yes this is a fairly typical adventure/HOG but the story pulls you in and the graphics are very good. The story moves at a pace which keeps you engrossed but doesn't leave your brain tied in knots. Puzzles are simple to start off but build as the game progresses. HOS are fairly well spaced but rarely do you get something that was in there (slight annoyance) Some folks are having technical difficulties so I advise you to demo before you buy; personally I haven't had any problems and the game is very good value for money. Enjoy little fishes! February 26, 2012
More An Adventure Game With Some HOG/Puzzles I have only played this game for the free hour - but looks good. Storyline is interesting -save your friends from the genetic aberrations that populate a forgotten island. Intro video very good. You actually start with a prequel - meeting the scientist, assisting with the experiment etc (I won't spoil the ending of the prequel). Then we skip to 50 years later and the shipwreck - where the real story starts. I have called this an adveture game as the majority of actions are interactive object collecting and using those objects later on or for some future task (eg. collect the owl in the cage, find the ladder, put him back in the nest, collect the requisite object). HOS (which are not difficult - beautifully drawn with some interactive items) are sprinkled throughout - no teeny tiny items so far. There are some mini-games/puzzles - connect the fuses, close blossoms, untangle vines etc- some are very easy while others are a little more challenging but not too difficult. Unlimited hints - button fills reasonably fast. Important items/info are stored in your journal. Background music is not annoying. This game could have benefited with VO - not a lot of text to read, luckily. I only managed to get about half-way through Chapter 1 or the 5 Chapters of this game - so seems it could be a reasonably long game. Overall, the game looks good, not too much back and forth and relatively interesting story. February 25, 2012
Prepare to purchase a new mouse What starts out as a promising game quickly dissipates into a quagmire of tedious and repetitious running in circles. The music is appropriate, mysterious and moody, really quite nice actually. The graphics are pleasant and well done. The puzzles are well done, some variations of the old standards (nice change) others are quite original and some border on frustrating. For decades of game playing I?ve rarely skipped any puzzles, on this game I did skip one. After 2 hours I said the ?heck? (yea sure) with it. One puzzle they tell you to spell a name, yet they give you the wrong letters to work the puzzle. Waaaayyyy tooo much back and forth, for every 10 things you do in one room/area, you have to go somewhere else before you can complete one task. After a while you tend to forget what to do, when you acquire an item your like, what is that for, ?oh yeah? (you need to use it 3 rooms back), it was a task you came upon approximately 25 tasks ago!! (that?s NOT an exaggeration!). You search an office, then you go back 5 ?rooms? to watch a movie, it shows you need to do something in the office, you go back to the office (5 more rooms), then you take that item to another ?office?, this time 6 more rooms. Really? Come on, did you try to make a long game or a good game? I wonder how long this game would be without all the to and fro? At this point I was just going through the motions, hitting the hint button at every move so I could rush to finish the game. I was wishing the game would end soon so I could move on to something different that showed more promise. I dislike quitting a game I?ve paid for so I muddle through (albeit with a very disagreeable attitude). At the very end of the game they have you back stepping 13 times! And you do it for 5 or 6 times!! Ahhh!!!! March 20, 2012
Buggy but beautiful This game started with such promise - the graphics were crisp and beautiful against an "Island of Doctor Moreau", exotic backdrop featuring a myriad of colorful and creative plant and insect life. The music was not obnoxious but also nothing special. Flaky Game Play - The game completely locked up twice, and in one HOS specified finding "0/20", but did not say the "what". - far from obvious, it turned out to be well hidden pieces of a stained glass window that had not yet been encountered in the game. Tedious back and forth - There are a lot of very beautiful scenes and the player will see them again and again due to the back tracking to see if there is a HOS required to continue and as part of completing tasks. There is no map so no way to jump from scene to scene so revisiting the same territory again and again became very tiresome. Storyline? The cut scenes seemed out of order as references were made to things that had not happened. At one point an "eye" appears and the reference assumes we have seen it before. The "eye" is never explained. Despite the plentiful scenes and beautiful graphics I cannot recommend this game. March 31, 2012
Surprising! I've only played the demo so far, but it's a buy for me! The 'genetic aberrations' remind me of B-movie monsters/creaters and I really like that. The storyline began differently...and I hope it keeps surprising me. Graphics are really nice, HO areas not that hard. I've only done one mini-game so far and it also wasn't that hard. I get a feeling that something is going to happen suddenly...can't wait to continue! February 25, 2012
Intriguing Adventure with a Twist I really like this game. It's been awhile since a game caught me off guard with a twist right in the beginning which pulls you in to see what else they've got! The storyline has got my attention. I've already purchased the game and hope it's as good as it seems thus far ... the crazy professor and a ship wreck .... who can ask for more? The graphics are clear. Can't give you an opinion on sound, I usually have it off unless it states to keep it on.. The HOS are okay, wasn't looking for any horseshoes .... The game is rather easy, great for a beginner who's just starting to play. Definitely recommend this game! February 25, 2012
Nothing much to write home about...... Warning: For those who suffer from Insectophobia should stay away from this game. Too many bugs, creepy crawlies along with sound effects that adds to the ominous atmosphere of the game. Actually the highlight of the entire game was the superb sound effects. Very real and very effective. The story line is interesting: Following a boating accident, you and friends find yourselves stranded on a deserted island where a mad scientist experiments on bugs and plants, resulting in some very wierd spicimens that are out to kill you. You have two play modes, a journal and also there is a game bonus play which I have yet to access. No voice over and non-descriptive music. However the Graphics are clear and visually very impressive and the enhanced by what I could say is excellent sound effects that remind me of one of those sleep machines set to jungle noises. You should play this game in the dark and set your speakers on, this will really immerse you into the general atmosphere of the entire story. Unfortunately that really is the highlight of the game, the rest really involves rather mediocre gameplay with no challenge whatsoever which made for a very dissapointing one hour of demo time. I would catagorise this game as your basic run of the mill IHOG. Lots of HOS where either you find 25 of the same items or from a list. Some HOS are interactive and are on the easy side. During the demo, I ran across only three mini-games that were too easy to be called min-games. Alot of going from here to there and picking up this and that to get to the next scene. It reminds me of the earlier versions of IHOG games that were put out years ago. I will not totally dismiss this game becuase as I stated, the graphics and sound effects gate high marks and I am interested to see what will happen to our group of survivors. Therefore if you have a credit to spare, I will recommend this game. Other than that, there really isnt much to write home about........ February 25, 2012
New Storyline I thoroughly enjoyed what I played of this game. I wasn't stumped by any of the puzzles, but so far, they have all been enormously fun! TOTALLY different storyline than what we have had recently, and after an hour of play, I can't tell you what's going to happen. In fact, it is so diffeent, that I wouldn't spoil it by telling you anything about it. However, if you have a fear of bugs, then this game may not be for you. Beautiful graphics, nice soundtrack, and a nice blend of adventure, hidden object and puzzles. February 25, 2012
Too easy..... Played the whole demo (casual) - 2 gameplay modes, casual, expert - No voice overs - Jungle background sounds, didn't notice the music - Notebook - H0, you interact, objects sometimes not too easy to spot - Hint takes a minute to refill, useful outside H0 - Mini games really easy - Interesting story - Good graphics Crazy scientist dealing with carnivorous plants on a deserted island, ship wreck and people landing on this island. Not sure about this game, quite enjoyable but way too easy, you use the items you find straight away. Might spend a punch card credit on it. February 25, 2012
