For entomologists and HO fans only If you like insects, or have the soul of a bug killer, and if the too frequent eternal HO Scenes filled to the brim with useless thingies or 24 insects or 25 leaves or 25 flowers do not bore you to tears, then you will probably enjoy the game. Other than that, nothing special, nothing new, nothing really exciting. Yes, the whole atmosphere is creepy, well sort of -what do you expect when you have to deal with loads of crawling creepies plus gargoyles without forgetting THE skeleton, yes the same bored looking one that hangs around in 99% of HOGS/Adventures ? - and that's about the only pole of interest with the graphics, which I must admit are very good. The puzzles seem dead easy and unoriginal though I didn't encounter many in the demo, only one in fact, tasks are the usual stuff: get a chisel, a sledgehammer, an axe - I can't remember if THE crowbar is tucked up somewhere...... and everything you need do is easy as pie anyway and, again, not at all different from what you have been doing in dozens of other games: oil hinges, dig up a patch of earth; plug in an electrical cord.... I wish some dev came up with new ideas, unusual items to find and tasks full of imagination. You won't find that in this one, I'm afraid. I'll recommend this game because it is not that bad, but it's a no buy for me February 25, 2012
Interesting I liked the graphics, storyline is okay, but could be better. There are no voice overs, just text. I found it to be more back forth and HO scenes, that is nothing new. My hour of play was gone before I realized it. The game just sucks you in. I played on the casual mode, and this is just based on that hour time. If you like this kind of game play, then you will like this one. I for one don't mind it. This is a change of pace from the usual HOG's. February 25, 2012
Beautiful and creepy at the same time! Excellent non-collector's edition game, worth every penny. I wish more exclusively non-collector's edition games had the quality like this one. -Long game -Beautiful, clear graphics. -Great storyline, something different. Murderous and creepy but some of the beautiful, flowery scenes lighten the mood a bit, which is nice since alot of the hidden object/adventure games are so dark. -Nice puzzles - some have been seen before, some not. -Alot of back and forth b/w scenes ...but I like this b/c it tests my memory and lengthens the game. -Hope there is a sequel :) March 5, 2012
Not So Ominous I played the demo and decided to get the game. It's not all it was cracked up to be. It's a lot of running around to get things done. I felt the story was to choppy plus you really don't figure out which character you're playing until the game is well over half done with. The graphics were good too bad the story wasn't. I was disappointed in the game but that doesn't mean someone might not enjoy it though. February 26, 2012
Glad I got this When the game first came out there were many technical issues so I waited for the fix. It's all good now. I could not wait to play it after I demoed it. Just finished it. Length is very nice but then again I take my time especially with beautiful graphics, colors and locations like this game has. When it starts out, you play the storyline that happened before the actual story and then it gets into it. Storyline is pure fictional, I hope :) but you are out on this island to find your friends. Minigames and HOGs are kind of easy, so no headache there, but different. There is a lot of back and forth but never too far. The ending left me thinking that there will be a part two. Anyway, this was worth the wait and I really enjoyed it. It has some creepy moments, but that just adds to the fun. March 20, 2012
WOW!!! Long, long adventure/hog game! I'm just going to say I loved it. After so many creepy, haunted games, this was a great change of pace. Yes, it had bugs and flowers but it was engaging. Graphics were awesome and the puzzles varied, from the really difficult to the idiot-proof. If you want a lot of bang for your buck and like something other than bloody corpses and possessed relatives returning from the grave, this is a great change. March 3, 2012
Interesting and surprising game. I am really enjoying this one - bought it immediately after completing the demo. The prequel start is original and the storyline is good, if a little disjointed in parts. The graphics are extremely good and the cut scenes well done. The sound effects are pretty amazing and really add to the atmospheric feel of the game. All in all a good ambassador for the genre. February 25, 2012
An terrific game experience! One of the things that earns a game a high rating is its complexity---I want a game that's going to last a while and keep me engaged. Natural Threat does that, all with a variety of mini games, challenging HOS and an good story line. The reason it got four stars instead of five is that the ending seemed a bit abrupt to me, but it's certainly not anything that diminishes the enjoyment. I think you'll love this one! Pretty enough but boring to play This has to be the quietest game I have ever played, there are ambient background sounds & very occasionally some melodic piano music. No voiceovers, no clicking sounds when you find a hidden object. The graphics are nice enough & the artwork atmospheric, you are after all on an island inhabited by plants that might cause your demise. There are 2 modes of play, Casual with a 60 second hint recharge & sparkles & Expert with 2 minute hint, a pretty quick misclick penalty & also sparkles abounding wherever there is a H0 scene. The hidden objects are a mix of ?find 24 items of a similar type? or the usual word lists, they are well drawn & some items are very well hidden to make them a little more challenging, there are also some interactive objects. During the demo there were a few mini puzzles & these were pretty easy, perhaps they will get harder further into the game. This review is on the demo only as I decided not to buy; I got rather bored during my hour?s play. The reason I recommend? If you want a pretty game without too much challenge then you should try this out, it might be what you are looking for February 26, 2012
a somewhat perplexing game I have mixed feelings about this game. Stylistically, it is one of the best produced games in a long time. The graphics are superb, the HO scenes ( and there are lots of them ) are not really tough. Have yet to see any puzzles. I have only completed the demo. Lots of cut scenes and I wonder if there are too many. No voiceovers which is a bummer. The storyline starts with a scientist who is playing Frankenstein with plant genetics. There is an assistant initially helping him. Here is where part of the storyline gets a bit lame. The assistant ( that's us players ) find things to help the scientist .After the first segment is played, the boss is seen at the door to his lab. Then he locks out the helper. Devs, give me a break!! This is almost an insult to my intelligence. Later on the game shifts to a point in the future # I won't give away how this happens ) I made some progress and the hour trial ended. I guess at some point I might buy the game. I have been getting fussier about what I purchase because there is so much sameness to a lot of games. This one does give hints as being novel. I do recommend the game. As an SE version, it is a cut above most of what is new out there. February 26, 2012
