Loved this Historical Mystery
I played the hour trial. From the first - I was engrossed in the story and the game play. I loved the period graphics and the HOG items fit the period. I didn't see a 20th century item in the 16th century which added to the ambiance of the game! Music was nice and relaxing. The task list was very handy and hints refilled relatively fast. There was no penalty for clicking in the scenes. The mini games were relatively easy. During the play there were unexpected things occurring which kept you on your toes. The only negative was the edges of some of the HOG scenes were blurry and dark. I want to know what happens next so I guess this is going on my "to buy" list....

Ghosts and evil jesters lay in wait to pounce.
Shame as it seemed like it would've been an interesting story. Did not read a single review that stated that there was the jump-out-and-scare-the-crude-out-of-you factor in the game. I truly loath those story lines. I played for less than ten minutes and I know that it seems like I could not give an accurate review in that time but I can say for sure that I did not enjoy it. The game did seem to flow relatively easy enough and wasn't frustrating in figuring out what to do. There was a good deal of HO scenes right away and I assume would continue that way. I'm more of an adventure gal and though I do not mind an occasional HOS I'm not big on 5 or more within the first 5 minutes. The music was melancholy with an eerie undertone which I turned down. The graphics were more of a soft painted style and not as crisp as some I've seen. The VO were decent enough but mostly from ghosts and before I turned the volume down seemed tunnel like, which I'm sure was the intention. There was a lot of pop-up instructional screens which I assume was for the easy mode. I did not do the tutorial so it was just part of the normal game play. It was helpful but within a few minutes became frustrating as it abruptly stop any action you were attempting to do. Over all I'm sure some will really like this game but for those that do not like the darker games this might not be the one for you.

Another one of the 'I wanted to like it, but...' games.
I love the thought of time travel and hidden object games, Many of the games in my library are in this theme.
This game seemed to drag. It takes time for it to set up. I also did not care for constnatly wandering around, especially in the seamstress' shop looking for dress pieces. I just felt I was already two steps ahead of the story and I had to wait for it to catch up, or doing things that were tedious, like retrieving the key in the dungeon. There WERE easier and more logical solutions that could have been used.
PROS: Beautiful graphics (often what pulls me in to check out a game in the first place if I am on the fence about storyline). Then there IS the storyline: time travel, and setting something right. I often do not play with sound, so unless it is garish, or a game says 'best played w/sound' I will rarely comment on this aspect of a game. While some of the HOG's were challenging, a few things were a bit tedious.
CONS: Oddly, it is in my pros as well: The storyline. The premise is great, but even a great premise can lose its appeal if it takes forever to move forward. I can understand taking longer if it was a child's game, but this isn't. We don't need our hand held to have the story progress, just keep it at a steady, forward, logical but challenging pace, and more often than not, you will do fine.
Conclusion, Tweak this a bit. Not a whole bunch, but some. I think right now, I will hold off on getting this game, but maybe later on, I'll give it another chance and like it better. It has happened.
I will recommend this game, though. It does touch the brass ring, so to say, it just does not grab on to it yet.

surprise! this is a good one!
first of all, HO games are not my favourites but this is one of the best of this genre that i have ever played.
what grabbed me immediately were the fantastic and amazing graphics. this is a visually rich and artistic game.
secondly, all the HOs were well drawn and clear and generally not too difficult.
the puzzles were engaging and interesting and some a little more difficult than others. some were variations on themes seen in other games.
the storyline was interesting and kept being so as it was kind of a mystery which unfolded as the game progressed.
throughout the game the player is required to search out singular items intrinsic to game play and because the visuals are so well done, this is not tedious and very enjoyable.
there are, in effect, two different levels of HO searches.
i normally would not have reviewed a game that has so many reviews already, but i liked it so much (given that HOs are not high on my prefernces) that i wanted to encourage anyone who otherwise might not try it, to go ahead and enjoy.

Very simplistic
Good graphics and sound. Very basic and the fun factor is quite low. Not a very challenging game.

Excellent graphics
Based only on the demo. Graphics excellent. One of the best games recently for this very thing. Loved the people walking about as you were looking for inventory items and HO scenes. Just a little too easy for me in regular mode so may be better in advanced. HO scenes beautifully presented. No interaction though. Good game for someone new to the genre as another reviewer mentioned.

Encore, encore~!
Amazingly well done game; historically accurate settings; believable storyline that runs the gamut from romance to dungeon 'crawling'.
Technically speaking, the various settings incorporated into the gameplay are outstanding to look at and use, albeit, a little different than what we're used to yet very user friendly.
The basic premise of the game storyline is you, as the main character, are sent back in time and find yourself exploring and assisting characters in solving or overcoming various challenges from the past by accessing information via the tasks and involving French royalty ~all elequently described and illustrated in a journal ~ and exploring and collecting usable inventory and equipment to do so.
This is a fantastic game. Thank you BFG and developer ~ what a wonderful treat!!! Tres bien!!

Just a HO game
Lots of reading and does not give me a full screen. This is for HOS lovers, just to many of them for me. Does not seem to be that hard.

16th Century Fun
This game was such fun to play! The story is engrossing, the journal/log is useful, the graphics are excellent, the cut scenes are great, the voice overs are acceptable, the music is not annoying like most games, the HOS are excellent, the mini games are fun and the ending is satisfying. For the most part, the game has a light, airy feel even though you are racing to solve the mystery. It is a nice change from the dark, creepy feel of some games. (I have nothing against dark and creepy games, I own quite a few; however, sometimes I need a break from them.)
My only annoyance was a few of the HOS items have odd labels. For example, a "tea service" actually turns out to be a teacup and saucer, a "knitting needle" is actually either a crochet hook or tatting hook. There weren't many mis-labeled items, but it was annoying.
Even with the annoyance, I highly recommend this game. It is a fun story and fun game.

It gets boring very quickly
At the beginning of the game, I thought that this was a good storyline, and found it interesting to travel to different times. There are 2 game modes. I played in Difficult mode and there are no sparkles.
Plus:
- The graphics are quite good.
- The HOS are clear, and the objects easy to find.
- The hint system is good.
- There is a task list.
Minus:
- The puzzles are way too easy.
- The dialogs get boring after some time.
- Actually the whole game gets boring, because it's only a matter of going back and forth, playing some HOS, solving easy puzzles. There is no challenge at all.
The game is rather short; it took me a bit more than 2 hours.
I could recommend this game only as a DD, and even then...
