2.5 - good for a DD REVIEW OF FINISHED GAME - I don't do like or love but out of 5 for each aspect, so I didn't dislike this game. I'm surprised this is less than a year old as it looks so much older with the graphics. It is typical fare, darkish storyline (at end) nothing new re plot, or gameplay and this game I will not remember. It's not bad at all and I liked most of it, it's just about average but the graphics let it down. I love the type of graphics they are trying to do - clear and sharp but it just looks old. There are three modes of play which thankfully you can change midgame. I thought the choices were weird as if you don't want sparkles you have to play with no skip or hint button which is hardcore and that's daft, you should be able to play with no sparkles in middle mode. The hardcore still has auto tips on puzzles and black bar tips which is bad. There is no transporter map, just a map in the journal which annoying sparkles when it's updated. The map does have "i" on it when you can do something in an area. More at the end there is a fair bit of backtracking but it's about medium and not excessive. There is voiceover but the characters are static in the dialogue scenes but move in the cutscenes. There are 15 tapes you find in the game (like the last game in the series) but these are obvious and not collectables like how you think collectables are as they are obvious, you can play them in your diary and can do things while you are listening which is good. I do like them as it is a bit different. 30 HOS All list, mildly interactive. There is a random click penalty. I thought they were bad purely because of the very faint or hard to see with some items and most of this is due to the graphics. About half of them I'd put in the junk pile realm. You have to replay most of them - so most HOS you have to play twice. There are no sparkles on the HOS which is good but it's annoying that on hardcore you have to keep checking on the HOS to see if you have to replay them. If they didn't repeat them it would solve the problem! 14 PUZZLES Most were easy a couple weren't but one was just pure fiddly to do. Most were well known - pieces on rings to make a picture, move things up and down - get a green light when in right position, slide to exit. I did like most of them but it all got a bit boring. It's not a bad game, but for today I feel it's just slightly below average but it's certainly worthwhile playing for a DD and I think most would enjoy it. I know I play too many of these games as it's just melding in with the crowd, plot at end been done so many times. I am going back to being a bit harder on games to try and make it clearer what games are standouts. I do prefer less HOS and at least the same amount of puzzles but if you like quite a few HOS and not so much the puzzles then it's a good enough same old game and I got about 4hrs 30mins out of it on hardcore so do recommend it for a DD. Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen Before writing this review I paged through the previous reviews. Reading those reviews help me identify just what is so aggravating and ultimately distasteful to people that play many games of this genre. Its as if the developers let anyone and everyone work on this project. There is no overall sense of purpose or direction here. Its a little this, a little that, a dash of something else and other extraneous ingredients. It is neither one thing or an other. It is a failure. It is also vaguely insulting to those who play these games. Did they believe no one would notice the lack of integrity in this production? Where was the chef de cuisine while the other cooks were making hash out of his creation? I would be deeply embarrassed if this "dish" came out of my kitchen. March 24, 2012
A little too dark for me But thats a personal preference, so others may not care. I didnt have problems with graphics they were ok. Story was very long by many standards so you do get your moneys worth for that. I never played the previous games but have no desire to do so just because, over all, i really tired of this game by the end and was just skipping thru mini's just to get on with it. Ending was not very satisfying. 2 stars cause I personally just didnt like the game, but i will recommend it for those who like blood and gore, decent storyline and long game length. April 11, 2012
Might be nice but SO ugly I just played 5 minutes of the demo and could not stand it. Such awful graphics! So raw, unfinished, like it was made in the '80s or something. Having played the most wonderful games, like Fantastic Creations: House of Brass for example, this is a major let down. It's a pity really, the story might be interesting, but I don't enjoy these graphics. March 31, 2012
Now I may need glasses for life..... The low rez font and graphics gave me a headache minutes into the game. At this level of HOG's I do expect more than a return to Pac Man screen resolutions. I have no idea how good the game may have been because I could not play for more than 45 minutes. April 9, 2012
nightfall mysteries black heart I bought this game and really wish I hadn't. the graphics weren't clear, the objects you collected didn't seem to fit anywhere. no skip on mimi games very confusing I enjoyed playing the first nightfall game but not this one March 22, 2012
A nightmare of a game Some games can be horrid and also be fun. This one is simply horrid in an unsatisfying and not fun kind of way. It combined to be a disproportionate, discombobulated, mismash of ugly, unappealing, displeasing to both the eye and psyche, storyline and graphics. It was disjointed and unappealing in almost every way but a few... need I go on? Many players rated this game highly. I will simply rate it BLECK! I just wanted it to end.... thankfully it did.
