Houdini Whodunnit ? Although I enjoyed playing this game, it was too easy. Seriously, there was only 1 "I think I'm stumped" moment in the whole game, and it came very close to the end. A few of the puzzles were clever, the H0G scenes had 2 kinds of twists -- find the hiding place, or find the object by a descriptive clue (ie: liquid chicken). The artwork and special ghostly effects were reminiscent of MM Salem Witch Trials. So were the find ravens and clovers, and the achievements. In the end I found enough clovers to open unlimited H0 play, but not all the clovers; nor did I find all 52 ravens. Sad to say, I didn't really care. The game was extremely linear; being transported from times and places in history. But, in several places you hardly spent any time at all. In many locations / rooms, there was only one or two things to find or accomplish. Some of the artwork in one of the locations was so devoid of decoration as to think the devs were saying "we've got to add more, the game is too short!" There are a lot of clues given to you within the game play or in the diary. My scratch my head moment was answered in a picture that text told me to "pay attention to everything". Two modes of play, casual and advanced. I played the later -- no sparkles for areas of interest, ghostly waves for H0Gs are still there. Visually the game is well done -- I liked the transitional special effects. It played in wide screen. I wanted to follow the story. It had an excellent ending. It was pleasant to play -- for as long as it lasted. Even pokey me was done in 4 or so hours. The strategy guide does not follow along with your progress and it is more pictures than text, but you may not need it. However, if you use the hints (earn one for each raven you find), you will miss out on some achievements. Bottom line -- This game pales judged against Midnight Mysteries Salem Witch Trials which was just an SE but had so much more length and depth of game play. But Houdini still had enough good things, things perhaps outstanding compared to other SE's, to warrant my suggestion to demo it. ? BFG definition of Deluxe -- outstanding game play and a strategy guide. Well, I guess it had that. March 14, 2012
Good game! Liked doing tricks with Houdini! February 12, 2012
More fun than I thought it would be! The mini games were fun and the story line was engaging. February 6, 2012
Good Atmosphere, easy puzzles Catching atmosphere and thrilling story. Although the puzzles are sometimes a little too easy, it's fun to play. February 4, 2012
Great graphics but too many puzzles I would love a game like this if there were less puzzles and more hints. Played the demo, but while it looks fantastic, this is just not my kind of game. February 2, 2012
Interesting visuals The game itself is your avergae hidden object. The graphics are good and the story line is strange. The puzzles are decent. Overall not a bad game to pass the time away. February 1, 2012
Very Good As with all Midnite Mysteries games, I found it very enjoyable. January 29, 2012
Midnight Mysteries: Haunted Houdini Deluxe Really liked this game, had a good storyline and graphics, and with the guide included, I thought this was a pretty good deal for 6.99. January 28, 2012
Really Great Houdini Story I was Most Impressed with the research and effort put into this game... I am a Houdini fan and know a lot about his life... This game is fairly historically accurate with a bit of Imagination and "What If" thrown in... Using Sir Doyle (the Author and Creator of Sherlock Holmes)as a character in the game and Exploring possibilities of what might have happened.. Made for a Great Story... Sir Doyle and Houdini did in fact have a friendship in RL and their break up was gossip at the time... Spiritualism was very popular with many folks back in those days... and even the Cottingley Fairy Fiasco is worked into the story... Doyle was apparently a believer in Spiritualism... and of course Houdini was out to prove it all Bunk! A Super Creative Story based on RL Facts... I enjoyed the game for this aspect... Another Great Midnight Mysteries Game I've always enjoyed scary games and movies and this game definitely had some moments where it was thrilling, but not too scary for general audiences. The overall quality and design of the game was really good, and I really enjoyed all of the mini-games & puzzles and hidden object scenes, because there was no penalty for wrong clicks. There were also a few "magic trick" games that also helped create the mood of the Houdini theme. In addition to the strategy guide there's a blog walkthrough that helped me in a couple of spots that I was stuck, so that's always a plus for me. The storyline was a bit confusing at times and some of the character dialogue also didn't make sense, but overall in the end, it all came together. I actually enjoyed the storyline a bit better in the Midnight Mysteries 3: Devil on the Mississippi. Overall I liked this game! April 7, 2012
