PuppetShow: Return to Joyville Collector's Edition 4.4 5 117 117
Not the Puppetshow I hoped for. As a stand alone game, it was fine, but it didn't meet my Puppetshow series expectation. I loved the dark, Tim Burton-ish atmosphere of the previous game, which this game just didn't have. It was a good game, just not a great Puppetshow game. April 22, 2012
Get them all I love all the puppet show games. They are fun to play and have a good story line. I will get the next one that comes out with out hesitation. August 5, 2012
This Encore Proves You Can't Go Home Again I loved the previous PuppetShow games and have replayed them several times but for me this chapter fell short. As a pure hidden object game there is a lot to like about Return to Joyville. The scenes are beautifully drawn and have some entertaining and interesting gameplay to keep things fresh, even on your return visits. The downside is there are simply too many of them. Any sense of anticipation or discovery is blunted by the slow pace of the game. Enter an abandoned theatre and behind every door is....a hidden object scene! Solve a puzzle and unlock...a hidden object scene! By the time you finally get around to using your inventory the one item you need will be missing and you have to go in search of...another hidden object scene! The plot is simple, stop a fire and change the fate of the evil Felicia, our arch enemy from previous PuppetShow installments. You know what? I liked the evil Felicia much better than the beautiful goody two shoes I encountered in this game. We are supplied with a new villain, but he was hardly worth my time. After the main game ended there was more silliness in the Collector's Edition bonus chapter. Okay, so I am a glutton for punishment and despite my raving I did enjoy this game. It didn't keep me awake at night like the previous games in the series but I did find a little joy back home once again in Joyville. Hope you do too! May 28, 2012
Are Hidden objects all that BFish have now? Ok...I am a LONG time BF gamer and customer. This storyline was good. Graphics are great. But around EVERY corner there is a hidden object scene. I don't mind a few but.....Big Fish, where are the adventure games of combining inventory items and interacting with the characters? I am burnt out with the HO games. I must be the only one. I would recommend this game ONLY if you are a HO fan. May 21, 2012
A perfect end to a wonderful story I normally don't purchase Collector's Editions, but I'm glad to have purchased this one. The moment I played the first PuppetShow game, I was hooked on the storyline. This game gave it the perfect ending. In the previous 3 PuppetShow games, you are battling Felicia. However, in this last installment, she asks for your help. She takes you back in time to her childhood to try and prevent the fire that caused her disfigurement. You meet her father and help him save little Felicia. You also discover the culprit behind the fire. As with the previous PuppetShow games, the visuals are stunning and the robotic characters are a bit creepy. The sound quality is excellent and the voice acting is superb. The thing I liked the most is that when the characters spoke, their mouths moved liked that of a real person. Meaning, you could actually see the mouths forming the words. That is highly unusual in a video game with English dialog. Most games I've seen usually has the characters with generic mouth movements, no mouth movements, or their mouth moves to resemble that of another language. As far as the game play is concerned, the game takes a decent amount of time to complete. It's not too short, but it's not too long either. The level of challenge is also satisfying. It's not too easy, but it's not too hard as well. You may need to consult a walkthrough a couple of times, but you won't need it to hold your hand throughout the entire game. I did need the walkthrough a couple of times because at one point I had missed an important piece of a puzzle, and another time I couldn't figure out how to solve a minigame. There is a bit of back and forth, but not so much that it becomes tedious. The ending is a satisfying one as well. However, with the bonus game, it takes you a bit beyond the ending because, as Felicia warns in the beginning of the game, 'when you change the past, you change the future.' The bonus game is based on the changes made to the future, which you have to put back to rights and capture the culprit once again. It adds about an hour extra worth of game play. Overall, this game is, in my opinion, a perfect ending to the PuppetShow story. May 19, 2012
It was... okay when making sequels, i expect each game to be better. this game was not better. sure the gameplay was challenging (if you played without hints) but it was much more limited. it seems as if this storyline is running out of ideas. April 28, 2012
Great looking, but not great PuppetShow games have the potential to be Great! This one was great visually with stunning, detailed graphics & just enough of an erie atmosphere. It had good sound, nice voice acting & some really cool locations. The creepy factor is part of the appeal. That said, it also leaves you kind of lonely & wishing there were more humans to interact with. It started out in this cozy little town, and, had the game continued in this manner, it probably would have been really great. But it quickly switched to the theater, and with all the similar doorways to all the rooms, it became more difficult to navigate just WHERE to go next. Do we backtrack & revisit the same scene? If so, why? This had me reluctantly turning to the strategy guide. And like our fellow BigFish gamer "pinkmarigolds" said in an earlier review, the HOG scenes became more & more frequent as the game went on. At one point, there were even TWO IN A ROW! Why would a developer do this to their faithful PuppetShow followers? It's as if they ran out of steam later in the development process & just figured more clutter would slow us down & make the game seem longer. Well it only served to slow us down & aggravate us. As for the storyline, that was pretty engaging. And while many of the puzzles were quite challenging (as in diabolical, which is ok), some of them were just outrageous. How would we ever guess that the "lever" they were looking for was actually a COMB?!! Creative or rediculous? Your call. April 24, 2012
Puppetshow #4 Doesn't Disappoint I played the entire game plus bonus. Was really fun and worth the CE price. Graphics were wonderful and creative. Only have a little criticism and that is it wasn't as creepy as the previous games in this series. April 20, 2012
Great Game Just got finished with the demo and immediately bought the game. The graphics were very well done and the storyline was interesting. I started off the game in "hard mode" and then switched to "advanced". Being able to switch modes throughout game was a great feature. HOS scenes were not difficult. I highly recommend this game. April 19, 2012
Just okay nothing special I wasn't fond of the graphics and there were too many HOS for me. The bonus play doesn't allow you to use expert level. Some of the mini games were differnt, but the HOGS were too cluttered and the same ones appread too many times. Well worth the reg price but not collecters price. April 28, 2012
