My cup of tea! Small Town Terrors may not be everyone's cup of tea but is a definite buy for me. Although the story is nothing new, in fact I have played several games starting with a car crash, waking up in a deserted hospital and trying to leave town after finding your missing child. Lets not forget avoiding the evil that is lurking about. Sound familiar? So the story is old and used, but the game mechanics are fun and I found that this game is a good IHOG that offers the right amount of challenge as well as an opportunity to use those little grey cells. There are two game modes of play and options include cutom cursor. The graphics are live animation, which I personally dont mind, and the colors are sombre and dark and depressing which is what you would expect. HOS are cluttered and interaction is required for some items and there are puzzles that require some thought as well as some different mini-games that we haven't seen in a while. One thing that appealed to me were the health packs that you have to collect along the way to ensure that you have sufficient strength to carry out an action. Also you will find a map, reports that you collect and the task bar will outline what need to be done and offers you details if you are stuck. I enjoyed myself whilst playing the demo and find it to be a well executed game that is brought to us as a SE which we havent had in sometime. Yes, the game is more or less deja vu, but I I never get tired of playing them Have a good wekk-end everyone. March 17, 2012
Original, exciting and chilling fun This is not your average, car crash, save your child clone... it is a very well done adventure-heavy H0G with plot driven appeal vs. state of the art affects. You play the main character after waking up in a demolished hospital and need to search for your family following an accident, adventuring out into an almost apocalyptic -like atmosphere. Almost immediately, you'll notice your health is limited due to injuries incurred and will be gained back via finding energy packs in various locations (similar to action games) it will vary throughout the game dependent upon exertion of tasks, etc. Based on the demo, then, bottom line, though it sounds similar to other games we've played, it is truly unique and very well done, has an excellent plot, good challenge and is just hugely fun to play... I suggest you at least watch the demo, I did, then bought and I am a happy gamer. March 17, 2012
A Little Sleeper On My Desktop GAME JUST COMPLETED I never intended to buy this game because I was not impressed with the trial, but in a buying frenzy one day, I bought it to fill a punchcard, and only now have got around to playing it. And I must say, first, the trial doesn?t do it credit, and two, it is no earth shaker. But it is definitely gripping. I started this while I was waiting for the sequel to download (that completely bowled me over in the trial), and then couldn?t bring myself to leave this one to go and play it until I was done. It?s kind of a weird game, as others have noted. Each chapter has its own dominant colour, which looked ugly and annoying in the walkthrough, but actually added to the atmosphere, giving it a sense of alien weirdness ? to the extent that you noticed them at all. I completely forgot about them. The graphics themselves were quite well done ? very gritty, and a lot of floating dust motes. The music and most especially the background sounds were cree...eepy and again, weird. You must collect health packs to complete some specifically difficult tasks, such as kicking a door in. These were hidden about like any other object. If you?ve ever played classic adventure games the concept will be familiar to you. Except you don?t have to kill the zombie in order to get the goodies. Yes, there were zombies (ugh), but they were brainless and couldn?t open doors, so you are reasonably safe to get on with the business of finding your husband and daughter before they become victims too. In terms of gameplay outside these little quirks, the game is pretty standard. Plenty of HOs and puzzles, none too too hard. I was too busy sorting out the plot and figuring my next move to critique them. Just what is the cause of this terrible plague in the small town of Livingston? Well, plenty of theories are mentioned, but even at the completion of the game I?m not entirely sure. That is probably my only beef with the game. A much much better game than I had originally expected. April 14, 2013
a bit of a challange I found this game very intriguing. I played the demo with only one minute left in the trial. There's a lot of running back and forth to areas but it's somewhat linear. Not a lot of hand holding -you can pretty much figure out what you need to accomplish. You can't skip past mini games which is something that I occasionally like to have the option to do. Will probably buy this one. March 17, 2012
Neither terrific nor enthralling There we go again... Same old story that has been hashed and rehashed in several previous games: some kind of disaster has struck a little town turning it into Leipzig after the Allied Bombing and where no-one is left except your family, two men [one watching a movie in a movie theater...uuhhh ???] and a shadow that appears every now and then. Objective: save the family. And that takes care of the plot. Highly original, isn' it ? The decor is pretty depressing even though the artwork is clear..... and very red in Chapter 1, a feature that after a while becomes eye straining. Things turn blue in Chapter 2, green in Chapter 3, purple in Chapter 4. The HO Scenes are a mess and progressing through the different locales is rather tedious due to the constant backtracking that doesn't seem to follow any logic, and even though some of the tasks are not without interest. Finding Medikits to replenish your health is a novelty never used in a HOG before, but it doesn't add much excitement to an adventure that quickly turns to be boring. Some minigames are interesting too, like moving a boat through a maze, but others are just common place. They can be skipped. No voice-over, no widescreen option, two gaming modes, a map, clearly stated tasks, and a hint system that points at what you can do next or tells you to visit another location. A warning at the start tells you the game is not for the faint hearted. LOL. I didn't see anything scary in it. Maybe later on in the game.... I played the demo, didn't like it, and decided Livingston would be a no-buy for me. March 17, 2012
Interesting Game This game took hold of my interest as soon as I started playing it. One of the best SE games we have had in a while. You wake up from a coma and go in search of your family in a town that has been devastated by some experiment gone horribly wrong. I keep expecting a strange being to jump out at any time. Minigames require some thinking, but can be skipped. It takes the hint button a little while to refill. No clicking penalties in HO scenes that I ran across. Overall, a very good game, well made. I like this type of game and never get tired of playing them, even if we have been there, done that before. March 17, 2012
Good for the price Pretty good overall. The puzzles were challenging but still fun. The HOS were detailed but still pretty easy. The help button recharges quickly. Plays in about 6.5 hours. I like the gritty atmosphere. Definitely kept my interest. I may not have been interested if it were a CE but the price is right and was fun. March 17, 2012
Plesantly Surprised After watching the video, I didn't think I would like this one. But after reading a few positive comments in the forum, I decided to at least download and give it a try. I was quite surprised by how much I really enjoyed it. The hidden objects scenes are all very crisp and clear but challenging. The graphics and music have a unique style which sets the mood for an excellent zombie storyline. And the mini-games were all very original and fun to play. I recommend this game with two thumbs way up! March 18, 2012
Been there, done that Another game that starts with a car crash and the driver waking up from a coma in a grimy, dingy hospital. Stop me if you've heard this one before. Of course, the whole town is deserted except for some kind of creature, nothing works, and everything looks like it has been through a war. The only new wrinkle is you have some kind of disease and you need to keep finding "health packs" so you can perform tasks that require physical exertion. The HOS are standard junk piles (like there is anything else in this town). Sorry, but this is a no-go for me. March 17, 2012
Fun game! I really enjoyed this game, it was a lot of fun. What made it different was that you have to find health packs to be able to move on. I also liked that there wasn't a HOS on every turn. Thanks! March 17, 2012
