Pretty but dumb Based on demo only: This game has some interesting and pretty features to the graphics in some respects, in other ways it is just too busy and cluttered on the eye. Sort of like looking at stained glass instead of a picture... too many lines and way too much 'stuff' going on# The mini games within the main game were somewhat unique yet despite initially looking complex and interesting, they were very simple and offered too much in the way of instructions# The main character's voice, well, she sounded so empty- headed the inflections in her voice over were SO poor and all way off to what she was supposed to be saying= doh! I certainly wouldn't want my city to be depending on her or any of the characters in a similar situation... they were also referencing science without any real scientific substance offered to pan out believability; therefore, I couldn't really get immersed into the game at all. Otherwise, it is a a pretty good game for the price tag only. Oh, another thing, why the supernatural angle throughout when it could have been kept science fictiony.... way over done theme these days and it just diluted the potential plotline of the game. Anyway,# again.#.. for the price, it would be a good bet as a last resort for a boring weekend I suppose, it could have been better and there have been a lot worse. March 26, 2012
Good Game but disappointing ending I enjoyed the majority of the game. It was a bit unique compared to all the other games I have played lately. The length was okay (I would say it took me about 3-4 hours), the graphic were good, and the Hogs were good. The game cursor was a bit slow and jumpy though. I do have two complaints. The first one is that the map, it should have been interactive. You should be able to click on a locate and transport there, but you can't. My second complaint is the ending. When you reach the end it feels like you are missing something. Everything leads to the climax and it drops you flat. I'm not going to spoil it and say what you have to do at the end, but it is only a couple of things and you are done. No big finale'. I would still recommend the game but be prepared to be disappointed at the end. April 10, 2012
No Challenge I'm pretty disappointed in this game, especially given the ratings it's had so far. I was expecting something much better. The good aspects of the game simply don't outweigh the bad ones. Good: *graphics overall quite nice. *some originality in the hidden object scenes, which is rare these days Bad: *lead character voice-over painfully bad. *any challenge in the game -even on advanced mode- is eliminated by the game either telling you exactly what to do or just doing it for you. Blah. *the WORST example of non-ending I've seen in a game yet. I realy wish game makers would consider story-telling an important part of a game. Stories should have endings. This one fails utterly. The last two points are why I rate this game so low. I want to be challenged by a game and play through a satisfying story. Sadly neither happened here. April 4, 2012
The best SE in a very, very long time Wow, I really wasn't expecting this much quality in an standard release H0/adventure. This game is packed to the brim with fantastic logic puzzles, interactive, layered H0 scenes, really inventive inventory puzzles and plenty of challenge. I love a game that makes me think and this game had me at hello. There were a few times when I almost used the built in strategy guide. You do need to keep a sharp eye on every scene but the art makes running around worth it. It's the mini-games which set this game apart, there are quite a few that are unique puzzlers, a bit like the complicated locks in MCF Ravenhurt. The rest turn the usual fare completely inside out. All of the puzzles are very well done. Inventory items are a far cry from the usual wrenches, crowbars and disappearing screwdrivers. It takes a bit of concentration to work them out. I have a few small complaints - The very amateur voice acting of the main character, the final chapter seemed a bit rushed, and it would have been nice to have an expert level without black bar hints. But the game really felt like the devs were focused on game play instead of flash, so these are merely quibbles. All in all, it's a terrific game that also has a built in strategy guide. What's not to love? I can't wait to see what these developers come up with next. March 26, 2012
OMG love this game The story line concept is well done and even though I didn't finish the demo have already decided to get it. The art is absolutely beautiful and the hos is just the right type of difficult in the casual mode. I liked the flashbacks and the tie in to the "real time" Having the map, the list of tasks and the strategy all tied in with this game is great. The hint button and skip buttons fill quickly and the unique way of the puzzles and having to follow the instructions to open them is totally different than the norm. I liked the cyan attacker and the uncertainty of the only human that she has had contact with. I recommend this game. March 25, 2012
Why are people rating this with 5 stars? Check out the reviews for 1 and 3 stars i agree with them. Story line could have been good but very bad acting, and provided you with not only major hints but they just downright told you what to do (donot read the journal if u want to try by yourself). After a cutscene items were placed into my inventory with no explaination or letting ME try to find them or figure out i Needed it. They just gave me exactly the knife i needed and boom puzzle solved. Ending caused me to believe this was a pure waste of money. March 27, 2012
Disappointing I played the demo, read some reviews and thought this would be a good buy. Well, it was ok, but I'm glad I got it on a two-for-one offer with another game I really enjoyed. What didn't I like: * sounds trivial, but I got very irritated with the girl's voice (she was so perfect looking as well) * the storyline was confusing in that it wasn't always obvious what was going on apart from the broad outline * the tasks weren't really obvious. You'd get to somewhere and you'd wonder what on earth you were supposed to do, and then there was some seemingly random object you could collect. You'l click on something interesting and get no information, then in other places you'd click on something and get information about it. * the ending was kind of pathetic, and once you'd collected all the bits you needed, was too easy On the other hand: * the graphics are beautiful * I really liked the 'memory' parts of the HO scenes and some of the tasks you needed to do (the Japanese garden for instance) were nicely different from many other games So, just an 'OK' game for me. Might have been a bit more if not for the ending. I suppose I recommend it but not enthusiastically. April 13, 2012
Original Story Line, Improved Upon HOG Searches While this game is fairly short, and not very challenging, it is actually pretty fun to play, the story line is new, and the HOG sob-scenes were new and enjoyable. The artwork and graphics were pretty well done, and most scenes were really bright, colorful, and nice to look at. I would have liked to have had more to do, and more time to spend on some of the really great scenes. There is a great deal of hand-holding in this game, but that is fine by me if I just want to play something without having to think so much. I do enough of that during the day as a grad student! The map was a little unusual, and I wish that it could have been used to teleport to various scenes, but this is not entirely necessary, since the hint system will point you in the right direction. There is an interesting map feature, in that on several occasions, you put pieces of the map together, which gives you something useful for game play progression. Again, this is not a complex game, or one that requires a whole lot of thinking. However, it is quite enjoyable, even though it seemed pretty short to me. For a SE game, it does include a strategy guide, which again, is not all that necessary for people who are even intermediate IHOG players. It was a nice perk, along with a new way of completing HOG scenes. I do recommend this game for anyone who is looking for something that is just fun, has a unique story line, and nice art work to look at. Although I usually do not play with sound, as I find it distracting, this does have VOs, but I cannot say that they were particularly realistic. I do realize that voice acting is not as easy as people think it is, and I have definitely heard both better and worse. Do try it out, but unless you are a really fast player, some of the stuff that made this a fun game for me will be missed in the demo. March 28, 2012
Very Delightful!! This is a well developed game that draws you into the storyline right from the beginning. The graphics are great and sound goes well with the story. It's an adventurous game and you never know what to expect. I love games like this that capture your attention and hold you in expectation as to what could be next. Very witty ways of how things are both found and how they play out. I only got to play the trial but definitely want to play more. So glad it's not a CE because I get tired of waiting on the less expensive SE's to come out. March 25, 2012
Good Game With Some Annoyances This game was good, but could have been great. You are returning to the city of your childhood after 20 years to find out what happened and what became of your parents. This game has a sci-fi theme, which I liked. Unfortunately, they should have fleshed out the back story a bit more. The good things about this game are.... *Excellent graphics - clear, crisp, not too dark, not overdone. *Fun HOS - they add a new dimension by having HOS within an HOS which I really enjoyed. Most of the items are easy to find. One annoyance is that some things were mis-labeled. *The background sounds were so nice - ocean waves and waterfalls, it was so soothing and enjoyable during game play. *The mini games were really interesting - the developers came up with some new ideas and made the games really interesting. *The map was good - showed you where you were and where you had "to do" items. Plus they threw in a twist with the map which I found really interesting. *The task list was nicely done. *Built in SG! It was accessible during game play and usually opened to the correct page for the scene. I was thrilled to see an SG in an SE version of a game. The annoying things about this game are.... *Too much hand-holding during the mini games - you were given explicit instructions which was especially annoying since most of the games were so different. It would have been nice to spend some time working out how to solve them. *Too much "talking" during cut scenes - the developers should have found a better way to do "info dumps" during the game. The "talking" and clicking to get through it became really tedious at times. *The music was really annoying and I muted it after 10 minutes. *The journal sometimes gave too much info. I recommend not reading the journal unless you're stuck. *The story was not fleshed out enough...or maybe they picked the wrong things to emphasize. I would have enjoyed a bit more storyline and a bit less "where's my mother." *The ending was too abrupt and not very satisfying. I assume they were setting up for a sequel, but I wish they had taken more time with the ending. The truly awful thing about this game was the voice overs. The main character's delivery was truly, truly, truly awful! She sounded like she was in a trance. She didn't sound the least bit sincere or interested. The other voice overs were not very good, but no where near as horrible as the main character. Overall, I enjoyed this game and hope these developer continue turning out games. I recommend this game to those who can over look the annoyances. November 30, 2012
