WOW !! Unmissable ! Amazing Game! The story is similar to many others, however this game provides great entertaining and so many new things that is one of the best I've ever played !!! The 1st difference is in the "options": you can brighten the dark scenes! Very useful! 2nd - it's up to you assemble the map by collecting coins along the way. Really enjoyable! Also, in all locations have many things to do, or assemble, but .... just clicking to find out! Appears only if they are open! And, good for us, has many locations with those challenges.!!! Many HOS, not challenging, but varied and entertaining. Many new and challenging mini games!! Graphics are very well done, with care for details. Sound is really good too. Well, enjoy! I'm sure you will have a great time ! February 4, 2012
5 STARS.....I have not rated 5 stars since Dire Grove This games was AMAZING! Seriously, I have only rated 5 stars once before - and that was for Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove. VERY long playing, well worth the money. The graphics were so detailed; the wood on a door frame looked like real wood. The music was well orchestrated; and not annoying. The premise was a bit different than other HOGs - with different types of search qualities; pair the clue to the item, find pieces of a bigger object. I cannot say enough about this game; only, BUY IT. February 5, 2012
Loved the game! The graphics, sound and game play in this game is fantastic in every way! There are controls to change volume on music, voices and ambient sound. You can select your choice of cursor and also change the lighting. There are regular & find the fragment hidden object scenes, as well as finding various other objects throughout the adventure. The games and/or puzzles are not too difficult. You can find coins in the scenes to add the location to a map. The map is interactive so you can click on the location and teleport right to it. This is a great feature, as there is back & forth to use the objects in your inventory. There is so much to do in this game and you're always thinking about where you can use the object you just found. We played the demo for both the single & collector edition of this game. We purchased the Collector edition. February 4, 2012
Fun Hidden Object Adventure Game The soundtrack and visuals were top quality. The visuals were beautiful, the soundtrack haunting. The voiceovers were excellent and enhanced the gameplay. The story line had a logical time line and was easy to follow. The H.O. scenes were fun, some of them moderately hard. The mini puzzles were hard to moderately hard but always fun. February 4, 2012
Not the Best This is actually my first review and I was so disappointed in this game that I was compelled to write one. I have played quite a few HO games in the past 3 years and I have never ran across a game as confusing as this. There is no direction in this game as to use the objects that you may have in inventory, or what to do next. I'm pretty good with puzzles and remembering what tool I would need to complete the objective but this game does not provide that. One puzzle in particular (books in the dungeon) has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline and you wouldn't have even known to do anything if I wasn't moving the mouse around the room to find SOMETHING to move forward. IMO I think this game was just thrown together and the creators were just thinking of places to throw in some puzzles. It's too bad, I thought that this game had quite the potential but in the end it falls very short February 4, 2012
Wish I Could Like This One... Based on 30 mins of trial. From other reviews you know this gameis pretty, sounds good and is not your traditional HOG. But it is also not anything new either. There are plenty of games where, instead of combing through HO scenes, you must comb through your location for teensy weensy unidentifiable bits of stuff you may need, although how and why is not always clear. I mean, collect bits of a gem to light the fire? Gimme a break! The puzzles I encountered came without any form of instruction even in casual mode. And the very first one Needed instructions, because the note that allegedly provided you with a clue was too obscure for me. And it just kept happening that way for the half hour I tried to like this game. For those of you who are into pieces of objects, this is probably lovely, though not outstanding in any way, which is why I gave it 2 stars - to compensate for my personal objection to these sort of games. An Average Game with Nice Graphics The storyline is simple and traditional. Your mission: escape a manor in which an evil spirit has trapped you and take Sarah [a ghost] with you. Just as unsophisticated is the intro, although the voice-over isn't bad and sounds fairly natural. The in-game music is soft and not unpleasant. The graphics, though not exactly outstanding, are well drawn and nicely colored. The game is more an adventure than a HOG as the emphasis is placed on tasks. These are all simple, unimaginative, similar to those you see in many other games such as.... fixing a broken bridge. Most useful objects come in fragments scattered all over a scene; you need to find them and assemble them. There are not that many per scene and none present any real difficulty. HO Scenes are few and far between, something much to my liking. They are a bit cluttered but neat enough for you to be able to spot the objects without trouble. You can collect gold coins [which actually look like copper coins !], 4 per scene. Their purpose ? each set of coins gives you a photo of the location which is then stored on the map. The advantage is that this avoids backtracking as you can navigate from one locale to another just by clicking on the photos. However, collecting them is not compulsory as you can backtrack if you wish. There is a total number of 28 locations to explore. Hints recharge fast on the easier Mode and show you what to do next. However indications are a bit blurry so I had to keep my eyes peeled to see where I was being directed. Puzzles and minigames are unimaginative, too, and not particularly challenging. There's no instruction but they can be skipped. I didn't see a Reset button. Playtime is fairly long without rushing or skipping anything. I also noted that gameplay was not fluid, even jerky at times, which is astonishing for a 125 MB game running on my Quad Core. And something weird: in order to access the dungeon cell and then the grotto you have to go through....the first floor of the manor ! Huuuuh ??? This easy game is well suited to younger players or beginners, but may not satisfy seasoned players. In my opinion it is only worth between 3 and 3.5 stars. I suggest you try the demo and see how you like it. As for me, Curse at Twilight is not enthralling enough to be on my shopping list. February 4, 2012
Different Enough to Make it Fun I started my own rating system a while ago & made a note to wait for the SE before purchasing and now here it is. This game offers the option of brightening up the screen which is needed, however I wish the graphics were clear enough from the get go. Even with the Brightness turned up, as with most HOG's I still have to play with the monitor's Contrast & Gamma. What's different in Thief of Souls is the piecing together of objects and the ability to earn (photo) shortcuts to locations (backtracking can be sooo tiresome). This is a fairly easy game (even in Hard mode), but still manages to be fun. One note: this game seems to lag on my system which means I'll have to go to the system curser. Not a huge deal. Fun FROG/HO Based on Trial version only Good: Music, Mini Games, Layout Bad: no instruction on several mini games, so unless you are "expert" they be more challenging than you want, and one did not have a reset, just SKIP A generally overused theme, save relative in an evil spirits' grip. (yawn) Good (not excellant) graphics I would definately buy this, but will wait until DD. February 4, 2012
Refreshingly different hidden object game Excellent game - not overloaded with HOS - puzzles very good but not too challenging. Map for navigating excellent. February 5, 2012
