Another Fun Game in the Hidden Mysteries Series PLUS SIDE: Just spent three hours having fun playing this game. I have enjoyed other games in this series (Salem Secrets, Buckingham Palace, Notre Dame, Forbidden City), but I think this one is the best of them all. The story was interesting, the puzzles were fairly easy-to-do, and I played most of the game without having to refer to the walkthrough. The game stretched to fill my widescreen monitor, and can be played in Casual or Advanced mode (I played in casual mode). I enjoyed playing in the role of a handmaiden unjustly sent to the Tower of London. A former friend has told the Queen that it was I who stole the Queen?s brooch and unleashed some evil spirits. As the heroine, I had to help appease the spirits in order to save myself from being beheaded by the Queen. The music was appropriate (although not spectacular) and the graphics were colorful, although definitely not as sophisticated as some other recent games I love. The Hint button was helpful when I got stuck exploring several locales, including the ?Towers? in the Tower of London, Whitehall Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the surrounding town. The Hidden Object scenes usually had at least one interactive object; had fairly easy-to-find objects; and most scenes were visited twice. There is a map (although not interactive) which shows you where you are and what areas have tasks to complete. MINUS SIDE: I enjoyed the game, so wish it had been longer. It is not a CE, so there is no bonus chapter. If you are looking for spectacular graphics and music, an intense playing experience, and hard puzzles, you may not enjoy this game. However, this was great fun for me; sometimes my brain needs some easier-to-play games! March 30, 2012
Another great one in the series. I truly enjoyed this romp through a piece of history. The continuity, graphics and music are all well done. (One piece of music actually reminded me of a certain movie based on a Tolkien series.) Options for 2 levels of play. The story line held my interest throughout. The H0Gs were your standard interactive fare (with sparkles even in challenge mode) but the puzzles were unique, well done and a delightful mix of very easy & oh so slightly challenging. You can choose to have instructions or figure them out for yourself. The game is not your standard linear format and new areas open up as the game progresses. You can roam freely. This adds a little challenge as to where to go next. At no time did my inventory become overly full but this is not a case of find it/ use it. Some things you will carry until a later time. I did think that the play got easier on the second half but it may have been a case of simply getting into the rhythm of the game. The length of play was average and I didn't feel shorted. Over all this is not a difficult game but it also is not boring. Just a fun time. March 30, 2012
Well done... The graphics, storyline, music, sound and especially the price were all excellent!!! A very well done game with appropriately appointed period theme and enjoyable sound affects and music. Quite a LOT to offer for a $6.99 price tag; am surprised this isn't getting better ratings, it is a truly enjoyable game worthy of positive critiques and higher scores, in my opinion.... and I've played MANY games (love adventure) and for MANY years... you can't go wrong with this one. Good enough.... I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The graphics a very nice although the game feels more 2 dimensional than some of the better ones out there. The artwork is beautifully executed. Challenge is OK, requires some thinking. There is a lot of traveling back and forth which is a downside for me. All in all it is a pretty good Standard Edition game that should distract me for a few hours March 30, 2012
Great Mix Of History, HOS and Adventure! You have discovered a secret relationship between Queen Elizabeth I and a Catholic noble, Alphonse Pieter. Learning this secret has caused you trouble. You are shipped to the new colonies and find yourself in prison awaiting execution for a crime you did not commit. You will need to escape prison, find the evidence you need to prove that there is a dangerous plot and convince the Queen. If you're successful, you may be exonerated and prevent a revolution. ? Graphs are clear, bright and well done. ? No voices for characters ? Hints recharge slowly ? You will encounter angry apparitions who give you tasks to complete to help them ? Music fit the theme of the game. Not to overbearing ? The mini puzzles are not difficult and much the same as so many other HOS games ? The HOS are interactive, clear, easy to see ? No penalty for random clicking on HOs. ? A map is provided in your journal along with a description of the tasks to complete. The map shows were you are currently and areas of interest. The map does not allow jumping from one area to the next. March 30, 2012
Ghostly Intrigue My overall rating of this game is one of average. Nothing to jump up and shout about. On the other hand, nothing bad about the game, it's just fits into the average category for me. STORYLINE-- You've seen it before, release captured souls. VISUAL EFFECTIS -- Pretty good. Most are detailed and sharp. HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES -- As always a blend of objects to find, some related to the story and some not. However, most are. There is some interaction in these scenes -- you have to do several steps to complete the hidden object item. Some scenes are a little dark. SOUND EFFECTS -- Meant to be creepy or eerie, it does that. DIALOGUE -- It is not part of the sound effects, but the script, which you have to read is pretty good. MY LIKES -- It's a typical HOG with hidden object scenes, some interaction and mini-games. OK for a boring rainy day. MY DON'T LIKE SO MUCH -- Having to go back and forth between scenes. RECOMMENDATIONS -- OK for the beginners, intermediate, or anyone else who likes general hidden object games. Again, nothing new in this game. March 30, 2012
Newish story, old gameplay While, the inclusion of some historical details into the storyline is a newish twist to the storyline of a haunted area, overall the game play is the standard repetitive HO that leaves you feeling unchallenged and wanting at least a prettier scenery. The graphics are decent, but there are far better. You are bombarded with tons of scenes that you lack the pieces to complete, which screams of lots of walking around to try and figure out what fits where. For the time and money, choose a prettier HO, preferably one that actually has a challenge. March 30, 2012
Okay but not Earth-shattering Another blend of HOG and pseudo "adventure", meant to be spooky but in fact rather morbid in several scenes with a profusion of skulls and bones. The graphics are good, colorful, well crafted. The HO Scenes are the usual stuff, loaded with useless items, interactive and rather messy. Tasks are simple and traditional, with key items not very different from what we get in other games, and navigation from locale to locale made easy thanks to a map and a journal. Puzzlewise, nothing out of this world, they are easy, far and few apart and not very interesting. A game that doesn't offer anything new but which you might consider for a rainy day or if you like graveyards and skeletons. March 30, 2012
Hummm... I don't like to write a bad review because I know someone put a lot of work into the various games. Unfortuantely, I cannot give this game a good review. After reading the first review I had to play it for myself to see if I too thought it was fair. I made it through 20 minutes of the demo and quit. To me the graphics aren't very well done, they are too dark and too much the same look in each scene. I really disliked the HO scenes which I normally really enjoy. I don't mind a challenge but give me a challenge, not a poorly done scene. Just not my cup of tea. March 30, 2012
Average Based on the demo, all in all this is an average game. No voice overs, storyline the usuak need to free ghosts to free yourself, HOs not that sharp. The hint button is slow. Puzzles are more than easy. There is a map, the only useful feature in this game. And considering the size of the demo vs the size of the full game, and that I played the demo in just 35 minutes, I very much wonder about the play lenght of this game. March 30, 2012
