A Boring yet Intriguing Game! This game has an interesting story line but is at the same time both boring and intriguing. At times it moves very slowly and is boring in the ease in which you solve the puzzles. Then all of a sudden you find yourself at a loss as to how to progress. At times it seemed completely disjointed as if the story line was going in a different direction but the author did not know how to get us there. If you want a quick overall easy game to pass the time, this game is worth a try. April 19, 2012
VERY fun game!! Im surprised this game doesn't have more stars because its really FUN. Its not the hardest game although there were a few spots where I was absolutely stuck as I played in advanced mode and there is no hint outside of the hidden object scenes but eventually I stumbled upon what to do. However, this game kept my attention because for one I am a sucker for crime novels/games. I had not read the book this is based on just heard of it but I thought the storytelling in this was very well done. I happen to like the pick and select dialogue because it makes it more murder mystery who done it like in real life with the asking of the questions and I LOVED the voiceovers in this game. They are EXTREMELY well done!! The ending was marvelous! Finally a game that does voiceovers to close the story and tell everything that happened! It was like reading a book but playing it! This game is an example of what I want to see more of. Games based on books that are done well and move along well unlike some other offerings I can think of which have been pure dialogue and boring. Like I said this wasn't the hardest game but the fun factor is what made me give it 5 stars. Its also one of those games I didn't buy right away but I kept thinking about so I had to go back and get it to settle my mind and Im so glad I did. Also, I remember this developers first victorian mysteries which was back in the old style hidden object only scenes and although perfect for that era of gaming, would have been a bore today. So I am glad to see that the developers stepped up their game and modernized this one! Truly enjoyed it! I didn't even mind that there were sparkles to light up the hidden object scenes in advanced mode, I loved this game so much! I never give 5 star ratings but this game taught me it doesn't have to be a great CE, stars, bells and whistles to make it be an enjoyable great game!! Kudos! I look forward to more! Oh & as for length, I usually am a fast player but this game took me roughly 4-5 hours because there was so much to do and explore and since it had a fair amount of hidden object scenes, I stopped playing periodically and would return the next day. I can't say enough good things about this game. xx June 29, 2012
Thank you BFG and Developers I found the game exciting and fun to play. I had to start over because I forgot to get one of the apples that was in a (spoiler) photo (top left) of the ticket booth. So make sure you do not miss anything or you will have to start over. There was a lot of running around so the walk through was helpful in certain ways. The color, graphics, visual and sound were okay. The music I turned down way low. The HOS were easy enough, and some of the mini games were a challenge. The true identity of the killer was revealed and an innocent man was released. In the mountain scene I wish their had been a little action with the beastie. Doing the game was a good way to spend the day. I leave the purchasing of the game up to the individual player. Happy gaming everyone. Thank You BFG and developers for another excellent adventure mystery game. April 16, 2012
Very disappointing I have to say that the reviews (stars) are usually dead on, but this time they were way off. This was a very boring game. Some of the puzzles (that had the skip feature) were so lame i didnt even want to do them and it took forever for the "skip" to activate. The HOS was hard to see and some of the stuff was so tiny i would have only found it with the hint button. I can usually rate most of the games that i buy as a four or five star...this unfortunately was not. Thank goodness it was a freebie. April 27, 2012
Worst Game I ever played This is the worst game I ever bought and played on Big Fish. The hidden object scenes were fuzzy. The whole story made absolutely no sense. The French accents were ridiculous. The puzzles were so easy my dog could solve them. I couldn't follow who was who with the characters. Things happened that had no explanation, but, the game was still so predictable I flew through it in a couple hours. April 18, 2012
Good story with too much backtracking Loved that there were many characters. They went out of their way to make an intricate Sherlock Holmes style story. HOGs weren't bad as objects are fairly easy to find, there are just the right amount of them & you're not penalized for missed clicks. The game starts out on a train & progresses to a village but that's where it ends! The scenes only have a couple of things to do in each area, the rest is just window dressing. Back in the 90's, there was an Incredibly entertaining game called Toonstruck. Originally it had over 100 scenes so they had to cut the game in HALF, and it was still one of the best & biggest games ever - just HUGE! Comparatively, Yellow Room only has around a half a dozen scenes, maybe a couple of rooms off that. And it gets the death knell for major & severe BACKTRACKING!!! It's endless! And once you've exhausted all possibilities, the game is kind enough to tell you, "There is nothing left to do here". Okay, fine, until a few minutes later when you've triggered an "event" in the game, when suddenly that area has something to do in it again! And they missed opportunities, as once you've opened new areas, again there was only a couple of tasks to complete. It's as if they've run out of time to complete the game and thew together a task or two just as an excuse to use those scenes. So confusing. Why not just make more areas in which to explore?! And put more tasks in existing scenes from the get-go. The result is so linear & confounding. Instead, the game suddenly throws cheesy side hunts at us, like "find the note pieces", which could be cozy, but the way it's just thrown at you, you have no clue where to go next to find them! Dealbreaker! Oh and do we Really need to click on things 3 to 5 times to get the game to acknowledge it? It happened with the Fur on the Vial. Again with the Ladder on the Window. And even with a couple of Keys. Cmon these are game basics! The game has NO Hint system, and while I really wish it had one a few times, it wasn't as missed as you might think thanks to a Task system complete with a Map with informative icons. Overall, this game could have been much better if there wasn't so much backtracking, many, many times having no clue whatsoever what to do next. Nice storyline, pretty good puzzles and nice setting. Just too boring, and it could have been so much more. November 3, 2012
Good game As the photographer, you have to document the activities of a newspaper reporter and a master detective who are competing to solve the mystery of who the attacker was and how he escaped. Great story and nice graphics. Good puzzles. Great characters with VOS. Long skip button in games. Hints only in HOS, which were interactive, but junkpiles and not very clear. Only gets a 4 as the voices were really low, even on the highest volume. Casual play: 4 1/2 hours. August 2, 2012
Fun Mystery This game is entertaining. There are voice overs for the characters and cut scenes to keep the story moving. The graphics and sound are good. The music is pleasant. The hint button only works in HOS, but you don't really need it. The map provides a lot of clues when you're trying to figure out where to go next. The mini games were fun, but not too difficult. You are a photographer accompanying a journalist, so you get to take lots of pictures, which is fun. The journal is broken into several sections and comes in handy. There were some minor annoyances with the game play. A couple of times I had to exit the game and go back into it to get items from inventory to cooperate. I also had some trouble getting one of the mini games to work properly, but it finally cooperated. I would recommend this game to those folks who like a mixture of adventure and HOGs. This is some of both. July 21, 2012
Yay, wish there were more like it!!!! FINALLY! A good mystery!!! If you want something that is intriquing and fun but not too dark and ugly, definitely check this out. This was a fun adventure mystery with some H0 puzzles thrown in... it was not 'easy' nor was it difficult, it was simply 'different' than the generic game that is 'as per usual' and therefore I believe the ratings were not as high as they should be here. There is no 'hint' button so you are on your own to figure things out and that's the way I like my games. Victorian Mysterys: The Yellow Room was a GREAT GAME and I've been gaming for more than 25 years so I have quite a few to compare it to. I'd give it 10 stars if I could and hope there will be more like it in the NEAR future from BFG. So, encore, encore devs, give us more of these, please! Thanks! :) June 13, 2012
Well Developed and Fun Game I have played both Victorian Mysteries and hope they add more to the series. This particular game was a great amount of fun with lots of small challenges: Visually, not sophisticated but it had a nice look to it and the objects were clear in the pictures, even the small ones. Music was rousing for some scenes and pensive for others - never distracting and matched the mood of the room/task. Puzzles were easy to easy-medium and worked well with the motif. The "Skip" takes annoyingly long to be ready but most puzzles were solved before the skip was halfway done. Story takes several twists and turns to arrive at a conclusion. Some found this game short - but I thought it told the whole story and was a good length. June 11, 2012
