Loved everything except the abrupt ending
I always play on the easiest mode and finished the game in just under five hours. I probably could've finished sooner but I dawdled because I loved taking in all the pretty details of each snowy scene. The graphics were absolutely beautiful and I loved the wintry scenery with the falling snow. The music was repetitious and didn't quite seem suited to the atmosphere, but the outdoor sounds were adequate in creating a feeling of cold throughout. There is no map but you don't really need it as the backtracking is logical for the items you're looking for and where to use them. And having no map makes it the perfect adventure game in the purest sense of the word. I actually enjoyed the back and forth because it gave me a reason to take in all the details of each gorgeous scene. Everything was outlined so that the appearance is crisp and clear, and the items in the hidden object scenes were large and not junkpiles. The only gripe I have is that there is a single sparkle that appears where you have an interactive item to find. I prefer to find them on my own where I move my mouse around and the cursor changes. It changes here too but you get the single sparkle before you have a chance to search for it yourself.
The minigames are on the easy side but some require patience to manipulate the objects therein. Although I knew how to solve the puzzles, I sometimes used the skip button when I got impatient and just wanted to move along in the game. The hint button is helpful outside of the HO scenes too.
The story is good but the ending wasn't really the end and the game just stopped abruptly. From what I understand, the ending concludes in the CE, which I think is a rotten thing to pull on us. The CE is supposed to be bonus play going beyond the completed main story, not being the end to the original story itself. I feel cheated because I am not interested in bonus play, wallpapers, screensavers, concept art or the media gallery. I just want to play the complete game without the bells and whistles, but I DO expect closure to the story and I didn't get it in this game. I had no idea that this wasn't complete. I'm recommending this game with reservations since I enjoyed what I played, but am including a warning to others that you won't get the ending unless you shell out the extra bucks for the CE. Boo to the devs on this one! You won't be getting any more of my money.

Disappointing ending
Overall this was an O.K. game. I love hidden object games, this one I played on hard mode and found myself stumped a couple of times. However I was very disappointed at the ending of the game. It seems as if there is going to be a sequel but the game just ended..no satisfaction at all.

Hidden Object Scenes
Instead of using puzzles that require thought, this game relies heavily on hidden object scenes - lots of them.
The graphics are nice, the storyline is semi-interesting, but the level of challenge is poor.
There is a lot of back and forth movement between puzzles, that becomes boring very quickly.

Loved The Journey...HATED THE ENDING! Get the CE!
The graphics were beautiful, and the game play was challenging, but not difficult. You'll need to go back and forth a lot to complete tasks.
The only problem I had was getting off the elevator. Turns out you just need to turn around. An exit sign with an arrow pointing to the side would've been a welcome addition at that point. I had to search the forums to find the solution, and it seemed a lot of others had the same problem too.
While there could've been a little more character development, it was an easy story to follow. I absolutely loved the overall storyline of this game....until the end of the SE. It just ends on a cliff hanger. No wrap up. No "Happily Ever After", Not even a "The End".
You're getting ripped off with the SE. I absolutely highly recommend the CE. Other reviewers say you get the final chapter...the wrap up..."The End" with the CE. I'm just too angry to spend any extra money to see one last chapter.
Thanks for ripping out the last page of a great book!
I grabbed this one the day it came out. Next time, I'll restrain myself from snagging anything by 4 Friends Games until the reviews are posted.

Lovely graphics, rather boring gameplay
This game has gorgeous graphics, reasonably interesting puzzles and a good length of gameplay, but is let down by the predictability of the format and it's linear style, ie: each discovery leads, in almost every case, directly to the next. There isn't too much to tax the old grey matter here.
As usual , there are just too many hidden object scenes (yawn), and the old story of picking up an object, using it, losing it, then having to find a similar object to do the job later on in the game.
Overall, if hidden objects and straightforward, fairly easy to solve, games are your thing, then this is for you.
Personally, I became bored quite quickly!

Pity about the music
The visuals of this game are lovely, the puzzles quite challenging but not excessively, the story line works quite well (but see below) BUT it's let down by the sound.
1. There are no voice-overs. I was quite surprised by getting just text when voice overs would have added to the atmosphere
2. The music is REALLY irritating, especially in the HO scenes but in other places too. It seems to be the same dreary repetitive stuff over and over. I tried turning it down, but should have turned it off. A real pity because sound and sound effects really make a game and that's why I'm giving it only 2 stars for visual/sound quality even though visually, I liked it a lot.
Things that make it a good game: the various objects you collect and working out where they should go. If you are playing the advanced game where there are no sparkles, you have to be very careful to search everywhere for some of the objects. I confess to looking up the walkthrough on the Big Fish blog to see where on earth I was supposed to look for one or two objects I knew I needed to find.
The HO scenes: when you went back to them the things you'd taken remained taken, which I always think is a plus point. Ok some of them had object in you wonder why there were there, but they did blend in quite well.
the story: hmm. The trouble about playing an SE edition you don't know what comes out in the bonus play of the CE.Not to give any plot spoilers, there are things in the diaries that never get explained and a place you don't get to. Either the ending is leaving the way open for a sequel, or the bonus play solves the questions raised in the final scene.
I am giving it 4 stars because it's a very enjoyable game to play if you turn off the music and I could see myself playing it again. Recommended.

Great Game!
I played this game in the easiest mode and loved it. The challenges were hard enough to be interesting and easy enough to solve. There is a skip button if you can't do the puzzles. I didn't have to use hints but they are there if you are lost. They pretty much help you focus on what you have to do next rather than outright drag you along. They tell you if there is nothing to do in the scene you are in. I don't listen to sound so I can't comment on that. The graphic quality was good and the HOG scenes were easy to distinguish what the objects were. I happened to buy the CE and it played out the story longer, a lead into the next in this series. I liked this game well enough that I will revisit it after it has been in storage for a while and I don't remember it so well.

Abrupt ending in the standard edition
Like many other hidden object adventure games, your character travels from and to various scenes collecting tools, searching scenes and trying to solve the mystery of what happened to your character's fiance, Edward.
The puzzles included in the game were frequently not very challenging, but the hidden object scenes were well done, and the graphics are lovely. The hint button isn't that helpful, as it often tells you "there's nothing to be done here". I had a bit of trouble with the cursor too, when I was trying to backtrack in a scene. The cursor has to be placed just above your collected objects bar but not so close you end up grabbing an object instead.
I would have rated this game higher if it hadn't been for two things. One: whenever the journal you have is updated, it continually flips half open until you go and look at it. Often, the information added was something I'd already figured out, so I didn't need to read it, but I found the journal distracting unless I clicked on it to stop the flipping. And it updated a *lot*.
Two: the abrupt ending. There is no actual ending to the story and, at first, I assumed there had to be a sequel. On reading other reviews, I discovered that the ending is included in the collector's edition but not the standard edition. I would have preferred to know that beforehand.

No ending for standard edition!!!!
I was going to give this game 4 or 5 stars. Maybe four, because it's not Syberia. But for a hidden object game this would be a winner, except for one thing. The ending had been chopped off and reserved for a collectors' edition, and there is no way to upgrade. So am I going to shell out big bucks for a whole new game I'd have to replay? Forget it. Lesson learned. I'll be getting my games on an ipod from here on out. And avoid this developer.

Disappointing
I was really trying to like this game during the trial, but I just couldn't. The graphics and sound quality are excellent, but there's not much point for the excellent sound quality, if the only things you here are some wooshy noises and an extremely repetitive tune that is so depressing that you're losing your will to live. There's no voice overs. The story line: Lover went missing thanks to some evil witch (this time some winter entity), go out and find him in some iced over castle.
The HOG's are very crisp and clear, but I was more than annoyed when I was expected to find 'mouse' and 'lace', then had to use two hints only to find out that the 'mouse' was in fact a 'rat' and the 'lace' was a 'ribbon'. I'm getting really tired about these stupid errors and excuses like: "English is not our native language" really don't cut it for me any longer (it isn't mine either) and if the devs of LL:Ice Rose do call English their native language then I expect a bit more attention to detail.
The puzzles and mini games are so pathetically easy that a trained chimp could solve them. So I really don't grasp the option of choice for three different difficulties, as there is absolutely no need having to skip them.
I am really disappointed about this game.
