Solid game, worth the purchase price This review is based on the entire game. I purchased and played it through. There are two cases in this game. The first case is short, which I would surmise is mostly for demo purposes. In that case, you are trying to stop a serial killer. The second case is much longer. In that one, you are trying to stop a bomber. The game mechanics involve finding hot spots which may lead to solving puzzles or the typical HOS, which are the usual junkpiles with some thematic elements involved. Items in green were hidden in some way, under a box or in a drawer. Items in blue were scrambled words. Clicking on the item unscrambled the word. You could also click on the question marks hidden in the scene to unscramble the words for you. There were some varied puzzles, but during interrogation of a criminal you had to play a type of majong, and during research of a person you played a type of tile switch puzzle. The tile switch puzzle was my favorite as you did have to give some thought to the puzzle to work out the solution. Both puzzles got harder as the game progressed. This is a solid game. I really enjoyed it, and did not feel as if I was ripped off, or paid for a game that was too short. I am looking forward to the sequel. April 25, 2012
A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! I love the show and was looking forward to playing this game, but I was greatly disappointed. The entire game had a dated feel to it, like a HOG from 10 years ago. It was stilted and slow-moving with very little challenge. They did not capture the unique personalities of the Criminal Minds cast at all. I would not waste my time nor money on this game. The 1 hr Free Trial More Than Enough For Me Already - Cut This Off! * 2 Chapters * 2 play modes - Casual/Expert - I played expert mode. * No voice over * Graphics: Characters are cardboard cut outs. * No widescreen. Black bars. I had to change my settings. * HO scenes: 3 different colors: BLACK you find the objects. BLUE are scrambled and you either find a ? mark or figure it out for yourself item to be found. GREEN are hidden and an extra step needs to be taken to uncover those. *There is an FBI book that will tell you about the case and gives you info on all the agents. * Tasks are listed down at the bottom. If you get stuck, click on the hint and it will bring up the tasks. If there are several listed, you can "arrow through" up at the top and select the one you want and it will list step by step how to solve it. * Hint/Skip charge up pretty quick. * Mini games My overall impression of the game here: Well usually I'm REALLY into these crime solving games but I'm sorry to report this one just fell REALLY flat. Oh and I've never watched the TV show cause I'm usually at work when it comes on so no comment there. I'm going to start off with these graphics here as I didn't much care for the "cardboard cut out" type characters. The HO scenes: I found to be pretty clear as I didn't have trouble locating too much. The finding by different colors however is nothing I haven't seen before. What I played of this there is a little bit of back/forth but not too much and inventory is pretty much used right away. Where this game REALLY went down the hill for me was OMG! The click, click, click of dialogue so I really couldn't follow the story of the murder case. This is also why I marked the story as "OK." I'm sure it would of been great if it wasn't for all this click, click, click of dialogue. This absolutely ruined it for me. As one review mentions here. The year is 2012? Really all this click, click, click. I want to play a game here. If I want to read I'll do one of two things and that is either pick up a book and prefer Stephen King or I'll go to work as I'm a transcriber so plenty of reading there and some of that is pretty hard to decipher. The mini games which you click on the ? mark to get directions and a big huge box comes up on the screen. What I played of this I did two mini games: Finding the finger print that is different and a Mahjong game and while I'm trying to complete the mini games the dreadful click, click, click of dialogue comes up. UGH! As for game length: Although this is only two chapters I'd still think you'd get a minimum of 4 to 5 hours out of this at least if you are one who takes your time and reads everything cause lots of reading here unless you're one of the "expert" game players but the hour demo was way more than enough for me already. Actually I played for a 1/2 hour and quit. I thought maybe if I came back to it a few hours later I might have a whole different outlook on this game but sorry no such luck here. I'm sorry Big Fish and the developer of this game but this is dreadful in my humble opinion. The best I can do for this game is my 1 star: Stop madness, cut off and pull the plug on this already! I'm sorry but lets forget the daily deal or catch of the week as I wouldn't finish this game for free. If by chance there is going to be another one of these Criminal Minds games I hope the developer here does away with the "cardboard cutout characters" and all the clicking of the dialogue here. As always definitely give it a whirl and decide for yourself as some have really liked it but definitely not for me. April 21, 2012
Disappointing I love the Criminal Minds tv show because it is based in real cases and because of its focus on the psychology of serial killers, the opportunity to solve the crime, and the likeability of the main characters. So I was hoping that the developers would have some of these as priorities...However, none of these were captured. First of all, nevermind that there weren't voiceovers, the ambient sound plays throughout monotonously except for random and abrupt stops and starts for no discernable reason. Next, the gameplay is little more than old-style HOG with a few scrambled word items thrown in. Puzzles include finding the fingerprint that doesn't belong, figuring out code from a list of simple riddles, matching similar pairs of things mostly irrelevant to the case. Graphics were clear but conveyed no 'mood' even at the crime scene. The colors could have been in a bugs bunny cartoon. So, I won't be buying this one and I cannot recommend it unless you just want a generic who-dun-it HOG. April 21, 2012
Just Wasn't Any Fun Up front I want to say I'm not the biggest fan of HOGs. However, I wanted to like this game since A.) that's 99% of what BF offers and I was looking for something new, and B.) I love the show. This just had no meat to it. Play the Demo and then decide for yourselves. Everyone has different tastes and this just wasn't for me. April 22, 2012
This was criminal I love the TV program but this was not good. There are two cases and you have no choice; you can only play the one before you can get the other. The dialogue was incredibly inane. Being told "Good job !" for handing over a pair of handcuffs? Spare me. I found there was no ambiance to draw you into the game and the the immobile people didn't help. It was really more like reading a comic book than being transported into the game. The one game I played was a "which fingerprint doesn't match" one. The sublety of the difference was so great it was almost impossible for my eyes to see so after ten minutes of trying, I ended up skipping the game. The HO scenes were okay. I appreciate the games that include sounds of wind, weather, crowds, crickets, whatever you would normally hear in a place like the one that appears on the screen. I know a lot of people liked it and just because I didn't shouldn't keep anyone from trying the demo themself. April 22, 2012
Kill me NOW!!! I will keep this short and just say that the only redeeming quality this game has is the story line. If you are a fan of murder and crime, then Criminal Minds might appeal to you. Otherwise the game is slow, very tedious gameplay and to top it off, terrible graphics and over-crowded HOG scenes and mini-games that child could play. I will pass on this one and cannot recommedn this game unless you reallt have nothing better to do. Cheerds April 21, 2012
Love it! I am a 'Criminal Minds' fan. This game really sticks to the TV version. There are the usual HOS, with a slight twist, to make them enjoyable. The objects are not too hard to find, and they are not so dark you can't find anything. In the second crime, you get more of the talk you are used to, if you watch CM, you know what I am talking about. I hope they come up with a series of these, I will purchase them all. It would be really nice if the TV 'voices' were there. Good Job. Great game. April 22, 2012
Based on Demo only I'm a huge fan of the show so I was excited when I saw this game. This game had serious potential, but somehow the mark was missed. The characters should've talked, the HOS could've been less "messy", and the plots better. Still love the show, just not the game. April 22, 2012
Mind Over Matter Hidden Object Game A very different, challenging game. It was an unusual way to play a hidden object game, and I enjoyed it tremendously. The visual and sound effects were fantastic. Good job Big Fish! April 24, 2012
