Just OK bordering on Tedious. The story line wasn't anything new and was actually kind of confusing. I still don't know "Who dun it" or "Why". You had to go back and forth between scenes many times to get different objects. Sometimes the tools you needed to complete a task weren't logical to me. I think a lot of the answers may have been in the CE version, but frankly I was bored towards the end and used the hint multiple times just to finish the game and be done. September 15, 2012
Falls a bit short of the first This is one of the more beautifully rendered horror HOGs I've seen and the locations are genuinely spooky. The score isn't intrusive and adds to the ambience and it is relatively easy to navigate. That being said, there are very few minigames and none of them are that fun. If you're only going to have a few, you might as well take out the minigames altogether. And the ending...if you don't have the collector's edition, which I do not, you will have zero closure. Because the game does pull you into a fairly involved storyline, it ends up feeling like you've been a bit cheated. Still, like Shiver: Vanishing Hitchhiker, Shiver: Poltergeist is a game worth buying. I'd like to see more of the Shiver series. September 11, 2012
One of my favorite games I loved the plot: romantic, tragic and scary! The scenes were drawn really nicely with great detail but I really enjoyed the interaction, such as flashlight, using objects in items list together or a lot more interactivity with puzzles than other adventure games I've played. And the end is a major cliffhanger! Wish I had bought the collector's now. May 7, 2012
Not bad As soon as I started doing the trial, it felt strangely familiar and this is because I also did the trial for the CE version that was released earlier, which I didn't wind up buying because I didn't feel the extra expense for the CE version was justified. The game seems very rainy and grey, nearly monochrome. Not sure if that is because it is set in England. The story line is not bad and I like the butler with the stiff upper lip and had the game been released as the SE version at the time the CE was launched I would've bought it. But in between now and then a couple of weeks went by and in that time I have come across and bought better games from this genre. So now it's a definite 'No Purchase' for me. I might buy it if I ever come across it as a D/D or Weekly Catch. April 27, 2012
Weak story line The story and game start off well. Sound is fine and graphics are quite beautiful. Even the sparkly areas that did not amount to a HOG were fine. However, the story began to fall apart a third of the way through and the ending was way too abrupt. This game really could have been wonderful. All potential that didn't pan out all the way. I really did enjoy the game aspect, though. April 28, 2012
Ending? The ending was very unsatisfying. I assume it is being set up for a sequel and the ending was not in the CE. Other than that the game was fun. Short on puzzles but good HOS. Visuals and graphics were good and I really enjoyed the story but the ending stank. This is the reason it is not a 5 star. May 12, 2012
Very romantic At first, it was slow going and I almost lost interest in jumping from one scene to another and having inventory items I couldn't seem to find a use for. Glad for the hint button! lol All in all, it was a great game but still can't understand the ending. Perhaps I missed something. May 8, 2012
I liked eveything but the ending !! This is a good solid HOPA game. It did take place in loads of rain (my pet peeve) but in this game I think it makes sense. Long playing time Graphics are mostly gray, browns and rust Good mix of mini games and HOG'S HOG'S interactive and even in the gloom you can see them Hint button shows arrows pointing the way I really liked how the story unfolds as you go I hated the ending, possibly the CE game gives you a clue All in all a good buy and a game I've played a few times. Creepy Atmosphere! I bought this one as part of a package and didn't know what to expect. I think it has some really unusual aspects. As the player you get some things thrown at you and that can be startling. The ghost in this game is really creepy and the effects around her are genuinely scary. At one point the hair actually stood up on the back of my neck. The HO parts are fine, if a little dark, but the entire game is shades of dark--you even need a flashlight for some sections. The minigames were innovative-not your usual "untangle the cords" or match things up. I would have liked gathering things or morphing objects (always a favorite) but it didn't really fit this game as you really are the player/actor and it's very life-like. Enjoyed it very much. Not your run-of-the-mill game. January 4, 2013
compelling story and nice graphics one day, Ricardo Chellini comes out of his soporific job-inspired daze to learn that he has inherited a manor on a small island in england. in this hidden object adventure game, you are Ricardo. you lay claim to your manor, the Kangale Estate, only to learn it is a falling-down dump occupied by a poltergeist with a bad temper and a fascination with fire. graphics: generally well done, but overall quality was a bit uneven at times. however, the flames in particular were always well done. music: unbalanced -- i turned the sound up to hear the voiceovers, which made the music too loud. but i really enjoyed what is a lone voice that sounds like a singer from the bulgarian women's choir -- wonderfully haunting. storyline: compelling. i really want to know how this ends up! even though the main character (uh, that'd be me!) annoys me, i am still interested to learn why these poltergeists bear Ricardo so much ill will when he clearly doesn't know what the dealio is. my interaction: one hour demo, casual mode (there's three modes). i gave this game four stars because i think the graphics were a bit clunky in places.
