Rats Rats and More Rats! The Pied Piper has always been a favorite tale of mine and I was thrilled when this game came out. At first glance, the graphics are dark and relatively crisp although the cut scens are blurry. There is Voice-over in the beginning only. So the story goes, you are a famous detective and once again called into to stop the evil piper from ruining the town. There is a conspiracy to solve and your mission involves many puzzles, alot of back tracking, mini-games and also 20 morphing objects to find along the way. At first, the game mechanics are what we see in many CE games, nothing really special. Three modes of gameplay, a map and journal. The one thing that did annoy me was the journal continously popping up quite suddenly interrupting the game play. However I did enjoy the mini-games which were uniquely done. The HOG scenes are dark, not too crowded and interactive as well. SOme were tricky in that there are many interactive items involved and you need to find the right one. Once again the game does fall short of being a great game, the music is drab, not enough challenge and gameplay does involve the usual pick this up and use it somewhere else. I found that I could not really get into the story at the beginning, it really did not grab me. I would say that this is really an average CE (unfortunately CE games are not all of similar standards and differ greatly in their complexities and design) This paticular game really has nothing much to offer other than good graphics and design, lots of HOGs and puzzles that involve running around between various scenes. That journal will definitely be a fly in the ointment for many. I am pleased that there are at least morphing objects to collect but comared to some CE games that I own, this one rates low on the scale. Alas, being a fan of the legendary fable of the Pied Piper, I will dish out the extra pennies to complete my mission at hand. Happy Gaming to all. May 10, 2012
Collector's Buy for Me I have NEVER purchased a Collector's Edition game before the demo was up, but I had so many areas of the map and storyline that I wanted to explore, that I didn't want to feel that rush of 1 hour almost up. Going to buy now. Pied Piper of Hamlin is back to take revenge on the inhabitants of the city of Hamlin - nuff said. Music was appropriately spooky and serene, Map available showing you objective areas, In game strategy guide, lots of items on the screen are interactive, including the HOS. I'll leave it up to you to figure out what to do with them. New types of games, new types of "cursed" objects. Bonus game button for those who finish the standard game. I love that you can click on stuff in the game that you don't necessarily need, and the game interactively discusses the items - pulls you in. Oh yes, and there's RATS! I'm going to take my time on this game. Fun times ahead. May 10, 2012
Brilliant game This one is from Blue Tea and once I saw their logo I already knew it must be great and I was right. It really is a fab game. The intro is stunning. I'd strongly advise not to have a cup of coffee in your hand as I did or you may have to mop the floor, too :-). Because of that alone, I decided not to play the full hour of the demo, so I can watch it a few more times :-) until I have the cash to buy. Moving characters, fantastic voice overs and from what I saw and recall of the legend of the Piper it is well researched but does have its own life. The graphics are stunning, so much to see and to do and really beautifully done. The HO scenes are the best I have come across in a long time and the same goes for the puzzles. They are innovative, fun with a level of difficulty that won't frustrate. There are morphing objects and a lot of things that interact on mouse click. You do come across an awful lot of rats which could be issue for some, especially for anyone suffering from musophobia. Personally I quite enjoyed the ones you can click on. They squeak and run away :-) The game has a map which points out areas of interest. Not sure if you can teleport with it and the reason why I don't know that is because the scenes are so beautiful that I didn't want to. I could ramble on and on telling whoever reads this how absolutely gorgeous this game is, but today I make it short. Want to watch the intro again :-). I will definitely buy this CE. May 10, 2012
Good HOS/Puzzle, Fair Adventure Based on the demo. For the most part, the graphics are clear and dark, but this game is about evil done in the dark. The cut scenes are blurry, but that doesn't detract from the game. The HOS are junk piles, which I don't like, but the objects are easy to find. There is a great deal of back and forth in this game, which does detract from the adventure aspect-- but the objects you find are useful. The strategy guide is very helpful, as are the hints. Then there is the journal, with your objectives-- as another reviewer mentioned, the journal continually pops up whenever a new objective is added. That can be distracting. Overall, this is a good game, not excellent. May 10, 2012
Just a ok game I played the demo and would not have bought it if it wasn't 1/2 price. The HOS are different and hard to see what your looking for. The music puts me to sleep. Has a map but doesn't tell you much except where you are. The hint button is useless to me, I want one that tells you something. The game is not very clear on what to do next. You have to just keep going back and forth to find out what to do. May 9, 2013
Good Game Yes i enjoyed this game, do i think it's worth 10.80? I'm not too sure but i bought it anyway as i love CE games but i have played much better quality for the same price. The only negative really for me was the constant back and forth all the time and without an interactive map it can become a bit of a chore. Great storyline, great graphics and i love the interactive HOS, and quite a long game too which is a bonus, though i did complete the bonus chapter in 30 minutes. Worth a buy but be prepared for a lot of back and forth action. May 11, 2012
Top Class Just from the demo this game rates an A+ from me. All the requirements for a first class HOG. Super graphics, interesting story, evenly spaced HOS and some quality mini games. Will definitely buy the full version. May 10, 2012
Lovely graphics but disappointing A well known story - rats and the Pied Piper but with a twist. Some scenes are a little macabre but overall nice to look at. The graphics are very nice and the storyline interesting. The characters can be a little intimidating and sounds are fine. There are 6 chapters plus the bonus with three modes of play. The usual HOS scenes - a list including some items that need to be found by performing an action within the scene. Some may find the scenes a little cluttered and dark but this did not detract from the game - rather, it added to the atmosphere. Some items are difficult to see but with a little patience, completing the scenes is achievable. A disappointing thing is that all the scenes had a number of items that could be picked up to find another but they were not all used in once scene - nor were a lot of them used in any second visits to the scenes. This made it confusing knowing which item you needed to do what to find the listed item. The puzzles are very nice to look at and fun but certainly not hard to do. The first two chapters took about 40 minutes at an easy pace and there are about 4-5 HOS and 2-3 puzzles in a chapter. There is an objective book and a map which shows where you need to achieve things but it is not interactive. Also disappointing were the nuber of spelling mistakes and the incorrect names for some items. The strategy guide also missed some explanation re finding items which made it difficult to follow and work out what to do. Also included are morphing objects which make the hint meter work more quickly when you find them. The tutorial left a little to be desired, not explaining the morphing objects until you fell across one and they were difficult to find in some scenes. Overall, in spite of the disappointments, the game is enjoyable with the journey being achievable for all. Not sure that it is worth a CE price but for those who love HO games, it is one for addition to the library. May 12, 2012
