Fabled Legends: The Dark Piper Collector's Edition 4.2 5 100 100
A nice adventure game This is a good adventure game with a lot of HOS and mini games. Its a bit dark but you can still see what your looking for. It has pretty graphics and enjoyable to take your time looking around and exploring all the different areas. There is a lot of going back and forth but I didn't mind it because its a pretty game. The music is serene and beautiful. There is a map and a strategy guide. I am glad I bought this game and will play it again in a few months. Play the demo and see for yourself. July 30, 2013
Charming, extraordinary experience The same developer from the Dark Parables series refined their craft, and their offerings this past year have been spectacular. Their art, story, music, and cutscene animations are among the very best of the genre and this dark take on the piper of Hamelin (also touching many other fables) is no exception. If you're a fan of fragmented object scenes, however, you will be disappointed, since they switched here to the conventional object list HOGs. I personally welcome the change (FROG scenes have been abused to the point where you're clicking on minuscule non-descript fragments barely distinguisable from image compression artifacts) although the logic quantum leaps of finding a ton of useful objects only to discard them immediately and leave the scene with a used toothbrush can't be denied. The Dark Piper tries hard to tell a story (including even some character progression and your typical big-but-expected revelation), and gets it right better than most, thanks in no small part to the great character art and design. In my opinion, only longer cutscenes, more read material and a bigger budget could entirely fill the remaining void, and I'm not sure that is a line worth following in the genre. I'd say the game is not difficult but not too easy either, and you'll probably get stuck at some point due to some missed object here and there. The inventory puzzles are the worst offenders, some times stretching the limits of logic. The hint system provided is not good enough for those cases (it won't send you to the right location if there is nothing more to do in the current one, for example). The HOGs are fair, with mostly big and clear objects, although the interactive ones require some real thinking since there are usually some red herrings in the scene (usable or pickable objects that actually serve no purpose). Puzzles are varied and well done, although they fall on the charming-but-too-easy side. The CE is well worth it thanks to the extra chapter. Although somewhat short and featuring only an unconnected, poor story and a lacking villain, it has some of the best backgrounds in the game. Other extra features include the expected music score, concept art, and a few extra puzzles (basically, harder versions of the game's ones). Overall, however, it is an excellent experience, specially thanks to the charming art and immersive backgrounds. Definitively one of my best picks from the past year 2012. The developer is one to follow and I wish they include even more modern features in their next offerings, such as a much-needed teleporting map and a multi-screen aware hint system. January 2, 2013
Great Game - Kept Me Hooked Just finished 'Fabled Legends: The Dark Piper Collector's Edition'. From 10 minutes in on the demo I knew I would buy this game. It had all the elements I enjoy in a game - wandering around, picking up things and really feeling like "you're there". The story is loosely based on the old Pied Piper story, except that here the Piper has unleashed a plague of infected rats on the townsfolk of Hamelin. Those who didn't succumb have fled the town, leaving you to walk around, solving the mystery. There were quite a lot of HOGs in this game and not quite so many puzzles. The HOGs were, for me anyway, relatively simple, and the items to be found were all visible. I *hate* HOGs where it's nigh impossible to find some of the items without giving yourself a headache from all the squinting up close at the screen! The puzzles there were, from memory, tended mostly to follow a similar theme. That didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game, though, because the storyline held my interest so well. In addition, there are 'fabled objects' to be found #morphing objects#, 20 in all, so it did slow me down and make me take a good look at each scene before ploughing ahead! There were a few times I needed to consult the built-in strategy guide just to keep myself on the right track, but more often than not I was able to keep track of where I needed to use particular items. I also didn't realise - until I'd finished the game - that there is a 'golden map' on the bottom right of the screen, which tells you where 'areas of interest' or 'active areas' are. That would've saved me having to consult the guide to find the next HOG - doh! Overall I highly recommend this game. For entertainment it kept me hooked, and - like all great games - I was disappointed when it finished. I'm in the middle of playing 'the Midas Lair' just now, which is the CE's bonus content. I believe that once I've completed this there will be more bonus content in the form of stand-alone puzzles accessible from the main menu. Lots to keep you occupied in this game, which gets a 5-star rating from me! May 13, 2012
Excellent! Really good game! Reminds me of the "Ravenhurst" games. Mini games are interesting, not just the same old, same old, quality of the game is awesome. Well worth the $$. May 10, 2012
Fabulous Game This game was right up my street. Fab graphics, interesting storyline with a twist, that kept me interested throughout the game and in to the bonus chapter. Had to check the guide a couple of times so definitely challenging and I liked the puzzles too. The HOS were pretty standard, but about the right number of them, so no worries there. A good length of game play and good bonus chapter so well worth the money as a CE. May 17, 2012
Awesomely different! I thought this game was VERY challenging. It's from a developer who usually brings us fragmented objects but this was a very nice change of pace. I thought the storyline for the main game and the bonus game were both very good. I had to use the walkthrough several times when I got stuck. The graphics were nice and crisp, the hidden object scenes weren't overly junked plus interactive. Overall, it took me quite a long time to finish it and I'd recommend it to everyone. May 17, 2012
Loved It!!!! A great game and for me a big load of enjoyment. I played for hours, I am a slow player and savor each scene location. I truly enjoy traveling from one scene to the next and back again. The morphing objects are always a good hunt. Loved the rats. The puzzles, for me, were solvable and fun meaning I did not get bored and have to use the skip. Art work was superb. The HOG scenes were very good. Good work and thanks for bringing us this game. May 12, 2012
less bugs and creepy things. Loved the game except, I am not found of bugs, and stuff. I am a Mystery Tracker person, and Dire Gove person games love these. I will surely buy all the time. Lets go Big Fish. Find better games. May 16, 2012
