Amazing pirate adventure - A guy's review *review based on completing the full game in expert mode, including the bonus game play* The shortest and most sensible thing I can say about this game is: "BUY IT!" Though if that is not enough to convince you I will give you a bit more in depth views on this game. You play as a museum curator about to put on a pirate themed exhibition, and while reassembling the main attraction something paranormal happens and your daughter is caught in the wake. It is now up to you to save her and uncover a legend about the most fearsome pirate on the high seas. The story is very well made, though a bit on the romantic side. But it does not fail to engage and excite. It is a highly enjoyable trip to some magical places that will burn itself to the memory of the player. I think this is one of those games you will compare future games to. It is that good. The graphics are astounding. Vivid and colorful and dark when it needs to be. It all seems almost magical. The level of detail is beyond belief. I salute the artistic/graphical department of this developer. Job well done. Animations and cut-scenes are also very nice. Though a tiny tiny bit grainy at times, it is better than most casual games I've come across so far. The scenes themselves are very crisp and characters you come across are very well detailed. There is no live actors, just animated, and is what suits this game the best. Music is also good, but a bit on the boring side. I feel it could be a bit more dramatic. Sound-effects are top notch though, and so is the voice-overs. And every character is voiced, even yourself. The game play is brilliant for someone like me. I grew up with the old point-and-click adventures, and this game bares similarities. There is a lot of adventuring going on and tasks to solve. Next to that there are many clever puzzles/mini-games, most of witch I found very original and creatively executed. And of course you have the HO scenes. It is the typical clutter scenes, but they are done so well that it is pure enjoyment. The graphics and level of detail in these scenes are euphoric. I caught myself just gazing at the beautiful scenes and the level of detail involved. They are also interactive with some clever twists, and even though revisiting most of them, items picked up before will not return to the scene. Also, there is a function that let you see the shape (shadow) of the item you are looking for if you struggle. Not only that, but if you really do not like HO scenes, you have an option to solve mahjong puzzles instead to retrieve the necessary item. A developer that thinks about everybody is commendable. Also, I really appreciated the "construct something useful" mini-games. Hope that is something we see more of in the future. There are 2 levels of difficulty that you can play: Regular: No misclick penalty in the HO scenes, sparkles on active zones, hint/skip function recharges quickly and locations with available action are indicated on the map Expert: Misclick penalty, hint/skip function recharges slower, only the HO scenes, Construct-something-useful scenes and I believe some puzzles sparkles, locations with available actions not indicated on the map. I really liked the map function in this game also. It is not fast-travel able, so expect a bit running back and forth. It wasn't the hardest game, so if you want a challenge, be sure to play in expert mode. The bonus game play is not particularly long, but it is also interesting and fun to play. You also get the typical wallpapers, videos and concept art in the CE, but there is really nothing to warrant the CE price. I will still recommend the CE though, as it is not worth waiting on the SE, and if you haven't already gotten it you are missing out. For the guys: You play a mother trying to save her daughter, and the whole story was kinda romantic, but so are the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. If you liked those, you should like this. I really hope with get sequels to this one, and am looking forward to whatever this developer puts out there. TJ June 1, 2012
Longer trial time Shiver Me Timbers Just when you get rolling in a game it ends. Set sail in this adventureous game in trying too rescue your daughter from the Yucky Pirate Captain takes a lot of luck, thinking and game playing. I for one turn the music down low and use it for background. Voice over is not bad and kinda sends shivers up and down your spine. Talk about getting the willies. This game is not for playing in the dark The color and graphics were excellent along with the sound effects. Some of the obects were small enough but not too small to find. Others were well blended in that I had to use a magnifying glass to help find them. The puzzles were challenging enough and took a lot of thought in order to solve them. I wish we could get a little more than an hour of free play in trial as I had gotten to the bucket being filled with liquid from the barrel. I gave 3 of the dubloons so far to the little guy with the chest. Nine more to go. I recommend this game as it is a fun filled adventure game. I leave the purchaseing of it to the individual player. Happy sailing and gaming everyone. May 17, 2012
Fun, fun, fun I will buy this game in the near future. It flowed really nicely. Not sure my computer can handle the full game, but did just fine on the demo. Great artistry. Music was not annoying. Hogs were fairly easy. Puzzle were right along my alley to be fairly easy on the demo. Love the pirate who tells stories for tokens. Has a lot of originality. Almost up there with some of my favorites. May 17, 2012
Oscar Winning Game I cannot say it any better than "sfcali" did in his/her review. This game deserves an award. It goes on forever, never disappointing. A True Master Piece!!! Love the Mahjong option in the hidden object game. I purposely don't find the last object & then activate the Mahjong game, to double the fun. A few game glitches tho. In a few hidden object scenes, the item picked up, does not release properly. ie: The wine bottle does not fill the goblet. Too bad we can't click on the map to bring us directly to the place of interest instead of having to always back track. I highly recommend this game. I bought it and loved every minute of it. Thank you Artifex Mundi for sharing your amazing talent with us. May 29, 2012
WOW Brilliant What a great game. I can't wait to buy this one.The graphics are fantastic, the sound quality is one of the best i have heard. This game is full of fun fun fun. who ever came up with this one Fantastic thank you. The time went by to quickly, this really is a must buy. May 17, 2012
Faboo game i really enjoyed this game. it starts out in a museum the night before a special exhibit goes live -- a believable scene and scenario. but when the star exhibit unexpectedly runs away and then kidnaps your daughter, things become strange and creepy! music: appropriately grim. graphics: realistic and detailed. characters: i liked them and the long-dead old pirates were rather amusing at times. storyline: compelling. puzzles: relatively straightforward, although they are often complex, requiring pieces gathered from other scenes. quite enjoyable. i also enjoyed the variety of puzzles, ranging from opening tricky locks to brewing chemical potions. hidden objects: roughly 2/3rds were easy to find, the other 1/3 were difficult to see or required some sort of interaction with other objects in the scene to create the necessary hidden object. my interaction: one hour demo (included on my "wish list"). would have paid even more! This game was so well worth my money!! It has a very long play time. A map, doesn't pop you there...but there wasn't far to go so really really helpful. Hints were fast, but rarely used. Very very very good storyline! Had me hooked right up to the end. Interactive hos, but not an overload of hos. July 7, 2012
Shiver me timbers ! This game is captivating right from the opening scenes. The music is great, the graphics are excellent, The characters, while animated, are lifelike and believable with voice-overs equally as good. The storyline is refreshing; a long-dead pirate's corpse disappears the day before he's to be displayed in your museum and he wants your daughter. The HO scenes are uncluttered and well drawn but objects are still a challenge to find. There are several interactive things to do to find an item and if you don't want to do the HO scene, you can play mah jongg for each item on the list. This is the first time I've seen this option. This is remarkably well done and I can't wait to play the rest of the game. I think I'll get this one in the CE to see all that this one has to offer. May 17, 2012
Great all around game The graphics on this game are absolutely amazing. I was actually surprised by how gorgeous it is but beyond that it has a great storyline and even the voice acting is very well done. A lot of times it can be pretty corny. The chest that you put the coins into giving you so much of the back story was surprisingly cool, Its always nice to see good cut scenes that add so much depth to the storyline. It doesn't seem too hard and I would love a bit more of a challenge but it's fun nonetheless so it will be a definite buy for me! May 17, 2012
A Lot of fun HOG This game is the best game I played in long time! Once I started it, I could not stop playing. June 18, 2012
