Dark graphics and boring game play The graphics, while clear, are so dark and dreary that it became almost a chore to keep looking at them. The art style is somewhat cartoonish and the palette ranges from dark steel blue to dark grey. It's just eye-strainingly dark throughout. The cut scenes are numerous to the point where they become annoying interruptions rather than interesting additions to the storyline. The voice overs are somewhat stilted and some are so poor they rapidly became annoying. The storyline is one of those "ghost steals kid and mom has to save her" ones and there is nothing here that is unusual or even mildly interesting in how it is told. The girl is whisked away onto a ghost pirate ship and mom, of course, follows. She encounters ghost pirates who, amusingly enough, offer her "shiny fluid" and require aid with their "wooden limb". Maybe the suggestive nature of these terms escaped the developer but it had me laughing out loud. There was nothing interesting about the mom character that made me want to play as her and the daughter character was demanding and unappealing. The HOS were mildly interactive and very easy. They were not present in an overwhelming number. Puzzles were present in average quantity and were of typical difficulty. Game play involves a greater than average amount of backtracking within the limited confines of the pirate ship and revisiting the same areas over and over quickly grew boring...especially given the drab visual appearance of the game. Overall this was a fairly tedious game with extremely dark graphics, uninspiring characters, and a boring story. I finished the demo but it felt like work toward the end. August 16, 2014
I'm sorry, but I really didn't like this game. So banal! I feel a bit uncomfortable, because I?m in this case a voice off the chorus? I bought the game without trying it, because I confess I was deeply conditioned by the total enthusiastic series of positive reviews, so I?m totally responsible for my rash decision. Unluckily I have not liked the game at all. I fully agree about all the options as described in other reviews, they are all well-conceived and make the game very easy to play. Besides that I didn?t find anything original or particularly new in this game, the usual story of ghosts and kidnapped person and pirates? At least there is not an overdose of demons, but all the usual ?creepy? elements are there. The graphics are not exceptional and very dark. The game is easy and after a while rather boring. The voices over are good, but the characters are banal and the kidnapped daughter quite unpleasant. I?d have appreciated a little of irony, a winkle, something different. I wonder when we might have, just for a chance a game with doesn?t take the plot too seriously, something lighter and humorous, even though not childish. I?m totally fed up with asylums for lunatics, demons, ghosts, bones, dark graphics and dilapidated haunted manors. The developers are extremely skilled in creating well working and amazing games, but they should make an effort of creativity and originality in their plots. This is just my humble opinion, of course. May 19, 2012
Not a Game for True Adventure Gamers This Game is a HOG with a story OR a Mahjong Game with a story the Adventure part is Sooo Overpowered by the HO part... I found gameplay to be one HO scene after another and the Bonus Chapter was Literal TORTURE for me HOS HOS HOS thats what i paid for in this CE Needless to say i dont like most HOGS nor do i like HO scenes in my Adventure Games Praying for the day when pc gaming becomes PURE Again PC Adventure games with NO HOS!!! I only Tolerate the HOPAs because that is what is being Pushed on us by the Creators.. this is the first game from Artifex Mundi i have played and NOT Enjoyed ... and that Includes their TM games and even the HOS Heavy Abyss The Wraiths of Eden Although i still havent played a couple of them yet When a game has so many HO scenes that it Interferes with the Adventure it really doesnt matter how Awesome the Graphics are or your story... Disappointing Game for me.. if you love HO scenes or Mahjong Gaming and dont care much for Adventure Games.. then ignore my review and check out the five star ones.. March 27, 2013
Not compatible with pen tablet = fail This game does not recognize my pen tablet, which I use to play all my games. Very disappointing. Also, come on, when I play a game, I want to feel like a kid. A hero. Not a mom looking for her helpless daughter, for Pete's sake! Stop it with this type of scenario already! I want to be slaying monsters and zombies --- why isn't that possible in casual gaming? At the very least, if I can be something like the hot shot detective that's been called in to investigate and solve a cool mystery, that's something. But having me looking for my kids --- ah, no.
