What an utter delight!!! I honestly can't say anything bad about this game. It's absolutely delightful and should please most HOPA/iH0G fans; both those of the dark and eerie genre and those of a more lighthearted nature. Why? Because there's a bit of both, but not too much of either one to put the other off - and quite a bit of humour thrown in. Without giving too much away, you have certain statues that help you on your quest - I loved the Rooster and the Miner. The cut scenes are great, as are the graphics. The music isn't intrusive and the H0S are nicely spaced out. The 'jump to' map is fantastic for the times you get tired of going back and forth and the gnome hint button is more than enough to get you through the game without the need to resort to the SG. This is now my favourite game of the year 2012 so far. Big Thumbs Up Developers!! What a gem! June 15, 2012
Almost perfect! I may as well start with the only downfall in this whole game - the bonus chapter was too short. I took less than 1/2 hour, which ruined an otherwise perfect game. There were 3 levels to choose from - i opted for hardcore, so my review is based on that.. The game catered for widescreen, played smoothly, and had amazing graphics and cut-scenes. There was an even balance of puzzles and hidden object games - which were all enjoyable but slightly on the easy side. There were no annoying sparkles, plus had achievements and bonus objects to find - all a plus in my book. There wasn't a lot of running back and forth through the bulk of the game - only the last chapter, but not to the extent of being tiresome. The stategy guide was easy to follow, but barely needed. There was also a map that i never used. The storyline, whilst not captivating, was still interesting, although i thought slightly sad. Have to wonder whether the ending was written to leave it open for a sequel. The game length was passable. A few minor holes in the story, which if filled in, would have made it a better length. I highly recommend this game, but would probably lean toward suggesting the SE version - purely because the bonus game wasnt worth a pinch of salt. June 17, 2012
A Fun Challenge I beta tested this game and watched for it to come out. I really wanted to play the whole game. The graphics are terrific and the hidden objects are well hidden without being impossible. There is a little side game where you collect small objects along the way that does not influence the outcome, only whether you can find 25 of them before the game ends. If you get lost there is a map with gold dots on the places you can go and discover something or do something to advance the game. If you have played more than a few HOGs you should be able to figure things out without needing hints. If you do require help, the hints are specific enough to get you unstuck. The ending was a bit abrupt but when I played the bonus that comes with CE, things came together nicely. June 16, 2012
Fantatic!!! I did a beta test on the early beginnings of this game and decided I would buy the CE when it was released. I am no disappointed one bit. It has great graphics. The story line is clear to follow. The built in map is a help to move quickly to each scene. The puzzles are all doeable. The HOG's are clear and not too difficult to find each item. June 16, 2012
This one knocked it out of the park! What a wonderful game! Great storyline, gorgeous graphics, fun and challenging (but not frustrating) puzzles... what more could I ask for? Well, I'll tell you! There are achievements to earn. There are items to collect. The map is useful. The story was sort of like a fairytale, but still original and interesting. There was a fun sense of humor about the whole thing. The addition of a "helper" was a fun twist that I really enjoyed. The storyteller was cute too! If you enjoy HOPAs, this one is a great choice. I played the CE and feel that I got my money's worth and there's still replay value since there are three levels on which you can play. If you hate "sparklies" the expert level is for you since it has none of them. Just a great, fun game that I really enjoyed and hope you will too! June 14, 2012
Wonderful Game! This game is visually breathtaking, intelectually challenging (but not too much), and storywise is really fun. If you like fantasy, but not too dark, good vs. evil, but not scary, and fun characters, then this game is for you! The HO scenes are the usual junk piles, yet fitting to the scene. The puzzles are challenging, but not too hard; familiar but not boring. Added fun is the hunt for miniatures to collect, and there are achievements that pop up when you least expect them. I like the display area, too. Narration comes as you reach the part of them game where it fits - like reading a book. I love it! June 14, 2012
So different! Wow - such a change from the last few games. Beautiful, stunning graphics, pretty cool concept of statues coming to life instead of the usual ghosts/ spiders/ vermin/ lost souls/ brides/ family reunions.......you get the drift! Artwork + colours are stupendous. I didn't want to stop but the demo ended w/ 24 mins left in casual mode. What I loved - - Interactive map shows where you are, where you need to go and allows direct access to any area. - Hint (little fella named Rupert) works outside HOGs + details the next step well. - HOGs were clear w/ only a few objects a bit hard to spot. But, nothing that spoiled the quality in any way. - No endless clicking or overflowing inventory. - Stunning graphics + cut scenes to hold your interest. Ok part (may improve later in the game?) were the puzzles - one was the usual paint areas w/o touching the same colours and another to match lines by rotating rings. I wish I could get the CE but will have to wait for SE. I could go on and on but will sum it up in one word - fabulous! June 15, 2012
What a magnificent game! I'll make this short and sweet as others have probably said what I want to say about this game. I don't usually chime in with a revew, unless I think the game is really, really good. This game and the Eternal Journey: Atlantis... game are the best two games I've played, probably in the past year. The graphics were just spectacular, I thought. Usually I play games in 1024 x 768 mode, so as not to make the objects too small. But, once in a while, I would try this at 1080p, and man, the graphics and vibrant colors would just blow you away! Of course, the graphics in general are getting better with each new generation of games. But what else can I say? It's a fun game to play, challenging, and I love the interactive map which takes you straight to a location when you click on it, and also shows you were things need to be done. I wish most games were similar to this one. Just a fantastic piece of artwork, story, and programming. I don't know about the CE vs SE on this one, as I haven't played the bonus game yet, as far as value is concerned. But, I think I bought this CE on one of BFG's half price week-ends, and it was worth every cent and more! Plus, the game seemed fairly long for me. So grab this one, if you're looking for a beautiful, fun, challenging game to play. If you're anything like me, you won't be disappointed! August 26, 2012
OMG, best game ever! I was not very convinced with this game when I tried this on demo, the graphic is awesome but the mouse is draggish. I took a risk by buying the game during the CE sale a few weeks back, and boy, I was so happy that I did. This game is super amazing! I think this is one of the best games I have ever played, alongside MCF: 13 Skulls and Phantom of the Opera which are my top faves. This one, is so great in storyline, graphics, and I especially love the rooster! I didn't know there will be two different ending and I feel bad that I can't find out what happen if I choose the other one. I love it that the map is interactive, there are lots of places to explore and each is so wonderfully drawn. There's only one drawback, however: the CE bonus gameplay is very very short in my opinion. It should have been longer. Just that one point and this game will be flawless. Needless to say, this game is a must-buy, definitely. July 12, 2012
A good game indeed, but too short to my liking The storyline of this game is really good, the graphics are gorgeous, the soundtrack never annoys, some of the puzzles are really tough - although others are too easy. At certain moments, the dev's burden the player with too many HOS one after another, which I really don't like. To me, this feels like a lack of inspiration. The HOS themselves contain sometimes objects that are really too hard to find. On the other hand, it must be said that the HOS are no junkpiles and that the hint button charges quite quickly, even in expert mode. A very positive and handy thing is the map, which not only shows you where you can execute a task, but also takes you there, or anywhere you wish to go to for that matter. All in all, this is a very good game. I only regret that it is rather short. And this is even more true for the bonus game which took me only half an hour to finish. I intend to replay the game just for the fun of it and to choose a different ending to see what will happen then. July 11, 2012
