Jewel Quest Mysteries: The Oracle of Ur 2.3 5 70 70
My positive spin on a Good fun game! I downloaded this game because like many others I am a fan of the Jewel Quest games. This game is a great game! Yes, I did read a lot of the reviews before I bought it. Unlike many others, I really like the mix. There are tanagrams, and other puzzles, HO's and match three. If you don't want to read all the story text, then you can skip it, I read some and skip others. You can play at your pace, and contrary to some other reviews I did find some of the match threes challenging as they included some of the obstacles common to other Jewel Quest games. I am a big fan of puzzle, HO's and Match 3's so this game suits me to a tee! Try the free version and play for yourself. May 23, 2012
The Oracle of Ur The developers of the game figured we would see Jewel Quest and go for it, for the most part "we" did. This has been one of the best series. Yeah, has been...this one isn't one of their better installments. I agree with the other reviewers on the music and the constant pop up help/hints, I'd be happy if they didn't have either of these. Well, they got me because I'm a fan and I had a free game coming to me, otherwise I probably would not have bought it. It's just an ok game, not the standard we're used to in this series. Annoying mix of HO, Adventure, Match 3 and puzzle Good idea, but the game really doesn't have any body for me. The storyline leaves a lot to be desired and the lady who informs the player about everything talks too much in an annoying voice deliberately using high pitch. Why? To create some exitement? Well, if this was the intention it hasn't worked for me. The game is NOT exiting and the constant talking of the lady is somewhat patronising. I'm wondering in which category this game can be found. It is a mix of HO, Adventure, Match 3 and puzzle. The HO scenes are quite good, some items are oversized and quite of like this. It's like not being able to see the forest for all the trees in it. I could've kicked myself when I finally spotted the moth being the size of a combat jet :-). Nothing too small and plenty of jewels to be found. The match three sequences seem very easy to me, but I should stress that match three is not really my forte. The puzzles are ok, quite easy and nothing that rocks my puzzle world. The adventure aspect of the game is constantly being spoiled by the lady talking and telling you the obvious like: "A Crowbar!!! We may need this item". No way, Sherlock! :-) I wouldn't have guessed, especially not after it landed in my inventory ;-). The music is probably the most irritating tune I've listened to in long time. I like the sound effects and music in a game and usually turn it down if it's not so good, but here I completely turned if off. You can virtually hear somebody torturing a violin rather than playing it. I could only recommend the trial (under no circumstances the purchase) of this game to somebody who wants to briefly investigate what all of the above game categories are about, but with a stern warning that the real things are better. Sad chapter I love the Jewel Quest series, but this was a poorly thought out addition. There is no way to turn off the tutorial, so you are constantly being interrupted by pop up boxes. The story line has you completing all the actions twice...bad idea and fairly boring. There is not a lot of help figuring out the puzzles, probably because they are stupidly simple. As a final insult the jewel boards are also ridiculously easy. I wish I hadn't bought this one, it's one to skip. May 22, 2012
Blah Annoying Yawn I like hidden object games, but this one was just not up to today's standards for a game! The graphics could and should be much better. I was disappointed that there was no skipping over the match 3's, and there was no way to turn off the annoying hints. I didn't even bother finishing the demo. May 23, 2012
Great Mix of HOG and MATCH 3 I really enjoyed the combination of hidden object game play and match 3. I didn't find the graphics "gritty" or "grainy" as some game players stated. On my computer, it was very clear. I wasn't bothered at all by the occasional hint or tutorial. And I certainly didn't find the coins hard to find. I am a big fan of Jewel Quest Mysteries and this did not disappoint. I loved the game. I was not bored at all and would have loved to continue playing but the Free Trial is only 60 minutes. If you are a fan of the Jewel Quest series, you must try this one. And don't be discouraged by some of the reviews on this site. I give this game 5 stars in every category. May 27, 2012
Worst Jewel Quest I ever bought The hidden object scenes are to dark and dull and the objects extremely difficult to find. So far all puzzles that require right clicking to rotate the piece doesn't work properly and I had to click 25 or 30 times to get the piece to rotate so all puzzles I had to use skip. When you skip you get no jewels which you need to have to purchase items to help on the match 3 jewel boards. Lastly the spot the difference puzzles were the worst I ever seen and you would have to play one to understand what I mean. I've purchased around 200 games from Big Fish and this one ranks in the top 5 worst games. IMO don't waste your money on this one. May 25, 2012
Stupid Boring game HOG was extremely hard to find objects, I clicked 7 different times on one object, and ended up having to use a hint and it went to the same object that I just tried to click on. It doesn`t tell you what to do, you have to use a hint to get an idea, I thought I would like it as it had HO and the jewel board, but wish I didn`t pay for this, tried it several different days, and was not impressed, after I submit this revie I will delete it from my games. Don`t buy this even on the DD. May 23, 2012
Jewel rather tarnished. I really wanted to like this new Jewel Quest. The first in the series started me on the road for computer games and based on that first one I have bought all in the series as they have appeared. But I dont think I will purchase this one which makes me feel very disloyal towards a good friend. I could not manage more than 15 mins of the demo. May 22, 2012
Jewel Quest rests on it's laurels I do not remember the other Jewel Quest Mysteries being such a chore. This is the last offering in a string of games that were lots of fun. THIS one left me very disappointed. This is a combination of match 3, hidden object and puzzles. The HO scenes were SO incredibly cluttered and the objects SO tiny and SO hidden I used up almost all of the hints and couldn't find all the coins for the extra hint. Very frustrating. I have played difficult HOs before but these were darn near impossible! I used up all the demo time without completing the second HO scene. Even the match 3 games were just that tad too short and the jewels fell off the board as I was clicking on the last square needed. I have never been defeated by a game before but I have now. There is no option for an untimed game. The music, while I guess is nothing to write home about, didn't bother me because I was so intent on the problems I was having. The storyline was okay although I found the print in the boxes was a little on the small side and, for me, hard to read . Do bear in mind that my eyesight is poor. The pop-up boxes during the M3 games were unreasonable. It is like a mandatory tutorial and appears on EACH M3 game. All it does is take up time from the demo. The first puzzle game I encountered is a "pipes" type game, which I love, but had to skip because it didn't like the way I connected it to the other side and I didn't have time to fuss with it. If you have good eyesight this game is good. The graphics are nice and well drawn. If you have all the other Jewel Quests you might want to add this to your collection. But, I'm afraid, it's not for me. May 22, 2012
