Hats Off for that Opening Scene! One of the best visuals I have seen in a long time. Hats off to the developers for the opening scene. They went all out by using real film and actors which really is the most outstanding thing about this game. I loved the cut scenes, sharp graphics, artwork, visuals and sound effects. All superbly done. Also I have to praise the storyline, being a fan of one of the great conpiracies that involve the mystery of the Philospher Stone, I was totally captivated. However that is all the high marks that the game will get from me. When it comes to the rest, I found nothing really outstanding about Dark Heritage. It is your basic Adventure/HOG with game features that include two play modes. Game mechanics are supported with only a journal and a hint system that does refill quickly. There is no map, no collectables (other than a few scrolls, which are too easy to find), and no achievement which I think would have made this game much more interesting and challenging to play. You have your run of the mill tasks, collecting inventory items, solving puzzles and playing the odd mini-games. HO scenes are slightly interactive with easy to find items. As there is no map, you have your journal/diary to help you and there is alot of back-tracking involved. As I said, really very basic gameplay which was a bit of a letdown for me. With all the work that was put into the visuals, I had high expectations but instead, found myself getting a bit bored by the end of the demo. I just found the gameplay too predictable. However, I anticipate that this game will be an instant hit for many and I too am looking forward to continuing on with the journey and finding the Philospher's Stone. May 31, 2012
A really great game I almost skipped this one given the end of month, trying to get the most of my points, etc. The game however is worth the price especially as a special and I paid more at my local theater recently to see a movie, for perspective. I know many are turned off by anything that suggests of the "occult" but there is little "black " or satanic here. More mysticism than darkness and the usual motivation of human greed. Nice storyline, believable. Great graphics, music is not obtrusive. Puzzles and HOGS are average. Not too much backtracking which I find really annoying. There is a logical flow to what you find and the use of "real life" people and their distress adds to the motivation of the game. The characters do not appear robotic which I appreciate. Nice job and I'm glad I bought it, even at the end of the month. Very entertaining and fun to play. I didn't get to finish it today, but am glad to have it for the weekend. Thumbs up! May 31, 2012
Dark Heritage: Guardians of Hope After playing the beta version of this game, I have been waiting for the completion! The graphics are excellent; clear and easy to recognize. This game is one of the very best I have had the pleasure of playing. It will keep you on the edge of your seat as you go through twists and turns. The special introductory price is a real steal!! I recommend this game for all levels. Enjoy!! May 31, 2012
Meh...just ok - A guy's review *review based on completing the full game expert mode including bonus content* This game has a lot of inconsistency, which makes it just...meh. The story is somewhat interesting but simply lacks flow. The intro is live video, and it uses live actors, but the game itself is drawn. I don't know where I stand when it comes to the graphics. Some parts seem crisp and clear, while others seem grainy and blurry. Almost like two separate teams did their own thing before throwing it together as one. One thing that is consistent though, is the bad animations. Those seem very outdated by today's standards. The music is calm and soothing, and does not intrude. However it doesn't really fit what is going on in the game IMO. Non-the-less, I usually turn down the music anyhow. It lacks the presence of sound effects in many places (not a technical issue, just not implemented where one would expect it). The game mechanics seems slow and cursor seems off target at times. There is a lot of adventuring, which to me is a good thing. Several puzzles, where most is rather easy, but mostly ok. There are several HOG scenes, but not too many of them. The HO's are clutter scenes where some seem blurry and grainy, and others look crisper. Most of them are rather easy but there are some bad translations at times. Talking of bad translations, though not too much of a problem, I suggest a better translator next time around for this developer. Other than that the game is ok, but just that. The length of the game is ok, but could be longer. The bonus addition adds some, but not enough to warrant the price of a CE. There are 2 difficulty modes to play: Regular: Hints/skip recharges quickly, clues to find objects and quests on each location. Expert: Hints/skip recharges slowly, no clues for where objects are or quests to solve in each location. Expert is rather easy too, so if you want a challenge do NOT choose regular. I can not recommend the CE version, not even at the today only special price. I suggest waiting for the standard edition, or maybe even for a discount price, or when you need to use a credit. For the guys: You play as a female character, but there is nothing very girlish about it, so most guys would be able to play. TJ May 31, 2012
Not For My Money BASED ON SE GAME COMPLETED WITH SG COMPARED TO CE I am not particularly impressed with this game, certainly not enough to pay extra for the benefit of further play. I was quite happy to be done with it by the end. The best part of it was a dramatic and vivid opening cut scene. After that it languished. It was visually unattractive, grainy and dull, and although the enigmatic talking blackbird was very well done, I was never comfortable with the environment. The story too was nothing new, but that wouldn?t have mattered if the gameplay had been there. Nothing was ever obvious and hint outside HOS was directional and sometimes confusing. There were a few minor mistakes in the game as well, which only irritated me more . But one was a slip leading to a major spoiler if the player was switched on. Certainly made me suddenly realise what was really going on way too early. The strategy guide REALLY irritated me when twice it gave difficult puzzles no more than a black bar instruction like: ?Turn the circles to the correct position.? Ah, yeah, knew that, but how exactly, when they seem to have a mind of their own? There were things done right. The parchment scrolls with fate?s predictions of them were cool. Some of the puzzles were clever. There were a series of deciphering puzzles that looked interesting but which were indecipherable due to those earlier mentioned lack of proper instructions. I am unhappy I bought the SE version of this game, let alone forking out for a CE, which has only wallpapers and further torturous game play to offer. March 30, 2013
GOOD GAME I beta'd this game last week and I am impressed that the developers listened to what I had to say or what some of use had to say and changed it. It was regarding the Introduction - the graphics were very grey - now they are colourful. I like that!!! Thank you! The game has beautiful graphics and colours. There is a lot of back and forth, but I am managing fine. The puzzles are good, not too difficult and come with clear instructions. Objects in the Hidden Object Scenes are not difficult to find. It is very easy on the eyes. This is one of the better Hidden Object/Aventure games that have been offered lately (my opinion). May 31, 2012
Intriguing and I am hooked . What a lovely, interesting game. The music is very calming, the artwork is excellent, special effects are very well done, with great attention to detail. Each scene is a masterpiece, and the clues are very challenging to find. The trial hour went by very quickly. Its been a while since I needed the strategy guide for help, but I will buy the collectors addition, as I found I referred to it a couple of times. The Hidden Object items were findable and cleaver. The story is fun, and the animation scenes blend will with the game. There is a lot of artful thought that has gone into making this game, and as there is a "first day special offer" for it, I am going to buy it now instead of waiting till next month. May 31, 2012
Save the world from darkness and despair - again! I started off in Regular Mode (there's also an advanced one) just to see how far I'd get, but very quickly I found myself becoming increasingly annoyed with the game stopped after arriving on the mysteries island. Make sure to skip the tutorial (this option doesn't hit you in face as it does in most games) otherwise you end up with so many pop-ups telling you what to do that you want to throw a brick into the monitor. They used real actors and in the beginning and all looked very promising at the beginning. A professor is in trouble, because he's involved with an evil order. So he sends a gem /medallion to his closes friend with note asking to help him and to bring the medallion with her. (Why did he send it to her in the first place, when it already was where it should be?). Then off you go to what must be the gloomiest office I ever seen in my life. Hog scene was ok, the only thing I found difficult to spot was a horse that to me looked like a badly painted cow. You have to solve a couple of very easy puzzles and read some documents and maps, to find out where the island is that you need to go to. Eventually you activate some sort of hologram and the professor tells you that you need to find the island. At this point I said loudly: "What do you mean? Find it? I've just seen it on the map, it's off the coast of Scotland." Then things got blurry and there was a short but rough boat ride (a good indicator that you're the correct waters and close to Scotland ;-) ) and then the woman notices: "I don't think I'm still in London". No way, I wouldn't have guessed! ;-). The island was very dark and in one corner I could see the guy from the boat, clicked on him and at the very moment he ran off the lights came on and I could see the location, but I wasn't really interested any longer and exited. The graphics aren't very good at all. Everything looks grainy and tired. The music reminded me off progressive / experimental rock, but is very repetitive and got to me very quickly. There are some voice overs, but mainly you read the either silly or obvious thoughts of the rescuer. This CE comes with a strategy guide which probably nobody would ever have to consult, because this game is really so easy. You'll get wallpaper and a 'The Making of...' story. But don't think you have access to that straight away ;-). Oh no...you have to work for it and first complete the game. I don't know why some developers treat us like children: "Chores first, then the treat". I'm getting really sick of this. Apart from that, if the wallpapers look as ugly as the scenes in the game do, then who would want them? As for the "The Making of" story, I know it already: It was made BADLY! May 31, 2012
Had high hopes I really wanted to like this game because of the type of game and the special price, but I just couldn't get into it and just wanted to stop playing after about 20 minutes of the trial. Too much back and forth and when you come upon something you need, there is no clue as to what to do next. Maybe it was just me but lately I have not been able to find a decent HOG. May 31, 2012
Loved it! Great storyline, graphics are awesome. Puzzles are challenging but not too hard. Thoroughly enjoyed it, well worth it :) May 31, 2012
