ABSURD IS RIGHT
Review based on about 1 hour gameplay and memory.
Something about this game just didn't click for me.
From what I can remember (after trying to play 4 games in a row), the animation and vos were excellent.
Random Click Penalty - Demon face appears briefly about every 5 seconds. Very annoying. That was enough for me. Since I'm a random clicker by nature, it angered me to have that thing in my face so often. Why devs feel it's necessary to have penalties is beyond me. I'm not engaged in competition with anyone. I want to be free to click all over the scene. The penalties slow the game down.

Ignore the title....nothing Absurd here!
As crazy as it sounds, I almost didn't play this game because of the title. It made me think of a sideshow at a traveling carnival. Even the first "chapter" was not an indication of how sophisticated this game is.
I feel that anyone critiquing this game just from a demo will not be able to convey the entire brilliance in this game. It is definitely different than most games.....and yes, while it has a voice over, it was professional and not annoying as some.
The CE version is well worth the price....it's challenging and the prompts help in tight spots....but I would rather have a good challenge than speed through a game like this that has so much eye candy in the graphics.
I personally don't like the morose skeletal/psychic/cultish/witchcraft type genre.....which is where I THOUGHT this was leading. I was pleasantly surprised to see more creative uses of hints of Eqyptian remains and other historical/artifact type images, than the worn out "ghoulish" hooded and spell casting characters.
I think this game would make a long run to the top ranked games if it were renamed as something (FKA) "the Theater of the Absurd".
I totally recommend this game!

Disappointed :(
I read all of the reviews , and they really choose the games for me so I was expecting a bit of a scare, great grapics, good storyline etc, etc.
Ive never been so disappointed in a game in 7 years. Ive been trying to get into it for 2 weeks and Im sooooo BORED.
I dont know why its not grabbing me, its just not.
Yes, the grapics are good. The HOGs are ok, the mini-games aren't bad.....but thats about it.
Ive given up and bought the latest Puppetshow. After 5 minutes, I barely gave this another thought.
The only game Ive ever bought and given up on.
DISAPPOINTED

Beautiful, different, enthralling game!
I absolutely loved this game. It's different from other HOGs in the grimness of the story, the graphics style, the well layered storyline... I liked the quite different sounds in HOS's when you found an object. More findings result in different tones which contribute to the story and strangeness of it all.
And even when you've guessed the plot (which shouldn't be too difficult), it's still worth playing on. New rooms unfolded and left me in awe. I could completely go along with the story.
So I would say: very recommendable!

Spooky, Creative FUN!
WOW! I absolutely LOVE the creativity of this remarkable game! You can tell the devs put a lot of time and care into it! This has to be the most interesting and integrated hint system I have ever seen! It's part of you, and the story! Superior voice acting, and cut scenes! The outstanding graphics, music and sound effects add to this game and are very appropriate! The spooky story line captured my interest right away! I'm a big fan of interactive movie type games, and this is a prime example.
As you progress thru the game you earn powers to help you save Bethany. This game makes you think a bit as to what and/or how to do tasks, and as an intermediate casual gamer, is a perfect difficulty level for me. The puzzles are quite easy, which I enjoyed thoroughly! The notebook records all info needed to help you solve puzzles, and also includes your task list, and story. There doesn't seem to be a ton of back and forth, which is great! There is, however a ton to explore in each beautifully crafted scene!
There are a few things that I found I didn't care for, but they are easily overlooked and outweighed by the positives! The HOS can be challenging, as some HO are very well hidden/blended, and the color palate is a bit monochromatic in some areas. The hints recharge quickly, but can be a bit vague.
I didn't even finish the demo, and I know I'll be buying it! If you don't like dark, demonic games, this will not be for you. As always, Try Before You Buy!

Good gameplay but too many hints
I loved the visuals and the gameplay. It was a little reminiscent of a Bioshock feel. My main issue with it is that when I choose an "Expert" level setting, I don't expect the narrative to tell me where to go next. That feature should be shut off. Made it a little too easy when I've been playing these games for years. Other than that, I enjoyed the game.

Spectacular game
Wow! this game was amazing, everything was so polished, from the graphics, to the puzzles, to the voice overs. I wished it had have been longer, I was so engrossed. For the lovers of the unusual, and ones who don't mind a dark and scary tale. I highly recommend you purchase this one, you wont be disappointed.

Absurd!
Way too weird for me, didn't even finish the demo. Too fuzzy, too cartoony, too blue! Not my cup of tea.

OK game nothing mesmerizing.
The most impressive part of this game was the ring sound that you hear every time you click on object you find in the HO scene. I started to find them fast so I can hear the ring sounds creating music, it's kinda fun. The items themselves are sometimes hard to find, graphically I would expect more than what they created in here. The story is nothing new, yet again, a young girl is in distress. Can't wait for game makers to stop using this motif, it's to obvious now, move on guys, find other ideas.
So you have HO scenes and items you find in order to interact with the surrounding. Minigames not hard, you have the skip button if find them to boring. The audio was good, the help options are OK, they are really trying to get the player moving on in the game.
I played the demo, will consider giving up on one chocolate bar and buy the game instead when on sale.
