WOW !!! Thank's Blue Tea Games!! The Pied Piper of Hamelin back to seek revenge and infests the city of rats ... again! Game very well developed!! Excellent storyline, great cutscenes with amazing voice over, very nicely done graphics, very appropriate soundtrack. Several interactive HOS with good visibility. Not too difficult and the scenes are repeated. Great brand new mini games, some challenging and also previously known games, but fun. Three levels of difficulty...It has a map with tips on where activities have to be made, and a book with the objectives, and they come up as you move on. Be prepared to see lots and lots of rats! But also to have a great time of fun and entertainment! Just play... I bought it! June 8, 2012
P(l)ay the piper (SE) - A guy's review *review based on completing the full CE version of the game in normal mode* (originally reviewed for the CE edition, but re-posted here in the interest of the release of the SE. It is slightly modified) This game is really good, and I was almost about to give it a 5 star rating. But there are some small things that do push it down to 4. If I was able I would have given it 4.5. The graphics are really well done, and so is animations. Everything is sharp and crisp even in the dark areas. Nothing seems pale or grey. Not the same story when it comes to the intro and the cut-scenes. They are noticeably blurry, and does not live up to the quality found in everything else in this game. Music and sound effects are non-intrusive and plays well in the background. Note though, that I play with the music turned way down low. Voice-overs too are very nicely done. Everything is animated, so no live actors. I am of the opinion that suits these types of games best, though I seldom complain about live acting either if it is integrated well in the scenes. The story is a spin-off of the old Pied Piper story and I found it quite interesting. It is well thought through, and kept my interest through the whole game. Game mechanics are well done, and everything feels smooth. There is a nice mixture of adventuring, HO scenes and puzzles/mini-games. Some quite original in the layout. There is a journal and a map. The map shows you where there are objectives and other things going on, but there is no fast traveling option on it, so expect a bit running back and forth. The HO scenes are clutter scenes, but never feels overcrowded. They are very crisp and clear, and they are also all interactive. Sometimes you must really pay attention and think during some of those. There are 3 levels of difficulty you can play: Casual: Hints/skip recharges quickly, sparkles on areas and items of interest. Normal: Hints/skip recharges slower, sparkles on puzzles and HO scenes. Hard: No hints or skip, no sparkles at all. Playing through this in normal mode, I felt that the game was still rather easy, so if you want a challenge you might want to go for the hard mode. I absolutely enjoyed this game and would recommend it to anyone. Though supposedly a dark story it never feels scary or morbid in any way and should suit most casual players. I feel it is even worth going for the Collector's Edition on this one. And I can not wait to see what this developer comes up with next. For the guys: After playing through this game, all I know is that I was called "inspector", though through some of the cut-scenes you can see your hands which seems womanlike LOL. That did not bother me at all, nor do I think it'll bother any guy. The story itself suits both genders. June 8, 2012
Once Upon A Time..... There was this famous town infested with Rats controlled by the evil Pied Piper. I actually bought the CE and wrote in my original review that The Pied Piper was a bit of a dissapointment however having completed the game, I think many will be thrilled that it is out as a SE. If rats do not bother you, then you will definitely enjoy this classic fairy tale. At first glance the graphics are dark but relatively crisp although the cut scenes do tend to be blurry. I did like the artwork and there are voice-overs as well. As the story goes, you play the famous detective who is called upon to stop the evil piper from ruining a town. Naturally nothing is what it seems and there is a conspiracy to solve. Your mission will entail alot of backtracking so be prepared to use those extra running shoes. There are routine HOS, inventory items to collect and as an extra treat, 20 morphing objects to find along the way. Game features include three modes of gameplay, a map and journal. The one thing that really irritated me was the journal constantly popping up onto the screen. It unfortunately interrupts your game play and after a while becomes a real annoyance. However I did enjoy the mini-games which were uniquely and fun to play. The HO scenes were dark, not too crowded and interactive as well. Actually HO scenes did offer some challenging moments as some were tricky. Unfortunately the game does fall short of being a great game: the music is drab, alot of aimlessly running around and not enough challenge. There were so many actions involved that I found myself losing sight of the story which is a little weak. However fanes of the HOPA genre will definitely enjoy the good graphics and design, lots of HOGs and puzzles. As I said, that journal will definitely be a fly in the ointment for many and of course lets not forget the many rats that you do encounter along the way. Although the Pied Piper's tune may be a little flat, overall this is a good game to have June 8, 2012
Crikey! I?m, Well, I?m Shocked! GAME COMPLETED A COUPLE OF TIMES I had to look twice to see who made this game, because it seemed impossible to me that the people who gave us The Exiled Prince could produced anything so dark, so macabre, so, well, violent. Obviously, this is a game that no rat-o-phobe would want to see ? and believe me you REALLY don?t, but it is also not for anyone who prefers their battles with evil to be somewhat low key. The darkness in this game is intense, the creepiness is everywhere, and the battle is fierce and grim to the bitter end. For all that, it is an exceedingly beautiful game, well conceived, the story well told, the puzzles are all interesting without being too challenging, and there are plenty of interactive HOs. I really enjoyed it. I was completely caught up in the story, even this second time around. My one beef is the map. Very badly put together, it is inaccurate, enough to have you heading off in the entirely wrong direction. Worse, it is supposed to tell you where there are ?areas of interest? but that symbol shows up only if you have an active HO there. Any key, puzzle etc that you could be using does not register. So it?s around the map getting ?There is nothing to do here right now? throughout the entire game. There was also a fair bit of back and forth with one item too. But the game is fun, has some surprises in store for you, and is, as you?d expect, visually marvelous. April 6, 2013
FUN GAME! What a fun game! Purchased it immediately after playing the demo. Three game modes to chose from - I chose normal and found it to be just the right amount of challenge which made the game very enjoyable. Storyline was good and the graphics were excellent. The map was helpful because it indicated the places of interest and the ho scenes were pretty easy and interactive. All in all, I really enjoyed this game and would certainly recommend it. Blue Tea Games = Awesome. After having bought all three "Dark Parable" games, the one "Macabre Mysteries" game, I couldn't help but get my greasy paws on this one - Fabled Legends : The Dark Piper. The one negative is that in all the other Blue Tea games, the HO scenes make up one item that you'll need, like an antique book or elaborate key. The regular HO scenes are still workable, though. Interactivity is the name of the game, everything and everyone have layers to them, and the plot [I'm about halfway in] is still keeping me guessing. Beautiful, fluid characters meet with full-bodied and sometimes haunting music. The puzzles are highly original, like all of Blue Tea's counterparts. I certainly recommend buying not only this game, but the others mentioned in this review. Long, complicated games, with intricate plots and beautiful scenes. Two really big thumbs up. :D June 10, 2012
Fun to play I don?t know why but my favourite Fragmented Object game developer has decided to go with a normal Hidden Object this time, what a shame as FR0Gs are so rare, however this is a fun game. As ever the graphics are clear & the artwork pretty; there are average voiceovers & some lovely lyrical music. You do get a list of objectives which is great but every time a new one is created the book pops up on screen to tell you, not so good & definitely annoying. There is also a mini map which is helpful as you will open a lot of scenes & need to go back & forth a great deal, it is a shame it isn?t interactive so that you can hop between scenes. Still it does help you keep track of where you are & what areas still have things to do. You have 3 modes to play; Casual with a 30 second hint recharge, sparkles & glints, Normal with sparkles for H0s but no glints & a 60 second hint or Hard, no hints, no sparkles, no skip button. You can change the mode during gameplay. The hint is useful as it points to where you should go or tells you that the scene is completed for the time being. In addition there are 20 morphing objects to find; these will make your hint refill more quickly. Blue Tea Games are getting better & better with their mini games, there are some really good ones here, particularly where you have to solve several puzzles before you complete the solution to the one you are working on. There are a few of the usual such as move around a board to collect specific counters & a skip button if you get stuck. None of these are too hard. I did end up with rather a lot of inventory items as some areas require several items to be found before you can complete; you will have to find an inordinate number of keys for this game. The H0s have some good interactive objects but there are also many items you can pick up but won?t use; red herrings for tea??? It took me around three hours to play & the ending was satisfactory so I did not feel that I needed to get the Collectors Edition. Did not go for 5 stars as this would be too easy for an experienced player. June 9, 2012
A bit of a disappointment... For a game in general, this one is a bit of a disappointment due to various factors. For a Blue Tea game, this one is a huge disappointment, as they've done so much better with other games of theirs I've played. I originally played the CE demo, and decided while it wasn't worth the CE price, it might still be okay as an SE. And it's not awful, but it still ends up being a bit of a disappointment. There are several issues with the game. Spelling errors, language barrier issues (poorly done sentences, in other words), and a few items in hidden object scenes that the names will have to be looked up by many. While I don't necessarily mind having to look something up to know what it is, generally using a more common name for it is going to make more gamers happy. These issues, crop up pretty much throughout the game. The graphics are relatively good, though the characters move a bit stiffly at times. This game also has the morphing objects that are in other games made by this developer, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your preferences. The game doesn't mention them though, you just sort of come across them eventually. The cat you grab at the beginning for your hint meter is a bit of a disappointment - it almost seems like it'll interact with you during the game, but no, it's just there to click on if you need a hint. I'm guessing they chose a cat because a game involving the Pied Piper involves rats. (Get it? The cat will help you defeat the rats with hints! Ha!) The puzzles/mini are overly easy. Not a horrible thing, but there's really almost no challenge to them and they're rather hard to fail at. This is also not a fragmented object game like many of the other games put out by this developer, it's much more of a typical hidden object game. You have a list of objects, and you find them in the scene. And you do this repeatedly. The hidden object scenes are also a bit odd in that they let you pick up things you won't need to use at all during that particular search, which I wasn't able to decide if this was to throw you off and make it more difficult, or an error left in the game. There's A LOT of back and forth in this game as well, and you will occasionally find yourself wandering around trying to figure out what you're supposed to do next. Which, unless you missed an object in one of the locations, is generally a hidden object scene that you have to revisit. It just seemed to me to have more back and forth than other games I've played by this developer, and it started to get old. The story is also a bit cheesy and the way your character ends up tying it all up at the end was a bit disappointing to me. I don't want to give it away, however, so I'll leave that for others to discover. Ultimately, it's not an awful game, but for Blue Tea it's not a good game. If you go into it not expecting the usual excellent work from Blue Tea, then you probably won't be too disappointed. I would only recommend it with those caveats in mind, but I really hope that the next game put out by them is back to their usual excellence. June 22, 2012
" BRAVO!!!!" Wow! "Most Excellent Game!" #This is my very first time entering into this rhelm of reviewing!# I must say this game was much more entertaining and enjoyable than I had hoped/expected~going by the previous reviews. All of which had me excited to start-I was roughly 14 minutes into the "demo," and purchased the game from there! I always play in the most advanced mode available, typically without help-"trying" to keep this 'ol brain in shape! ;# Although I DID need to alter my mode of play* for a few puzzles, which were quite unique and enjoyable. Not too hard, but thought prevoking. #*And with the ability to change your mode of play at anytime while playing,WITHOUT having to start "another profile", that is always a blessing!# And returning to the "Hardest mode" to continue. #As a fellow fishie offered great advice when one is stuck-"if you just hit your windows flag button, it automatically drops down your game-pausing in effect, so you can go to the walkthrough and return simply by clicking back on the game from your toolbar!" WONDERFUL advice!# "THANK YOU" so much for that option Dev's. The storyline was very unique, and the graphics were equally well done. #I truly enjoy games that have one traveling back and forth, so to say a "true" adventure game.# Makes one think! The HOG's were well done-not junkie, and there weren't too many, just the perfect balance. Along with a FROG thrown in here and there. The voice overs were well suited. And the length was excellent. I played all the way through, with the very few "rapid" breaks one must take! ;# It took me around 5+/-hours. #Playing in the hardest mode.# #Again. loving the ability to switch play modes during game play.# Very much worth the price~I am a big fan of the Blue Tea Dev's. And this game was not a dissapointment. Chalk up yet another win for both~BT Games and BFG! Also, along with the 2 for 1 offering, I am thankful to BFG and BT Games for another great well done Ad-Hog! #A new description!?!# Is that even a proper phrasing? Lol.... Full screen offering, which is always a blessing-as I have a 17" flat screen monitor-and have encountered games that, along with my highest resolution, am unable to play. Much to my digrin. But, I digress! I always manage to find a game offering from BFG, which I am happy to report. System curser option available, and the game ran smoothly throughout. No delays in scene changes. I am not one to offer "SPOILERS," But more than happy to, if asked. Give it a try y'all~I'm sure you will find it as fantastic as I did! Kept my interest throughout the entire game while playing all the way through! A truly fun and unique game, so PLEASE BFG~"Keep these type of games coming!" :D SportsSpaz1449~ June 16, 2012
I Just Don't Get It? The Piper was so sinister & menacing, it looked promising. The cozy medieval village also looked inviting. The fact that you could eventually enter the many storefronts & shop windows was terrific. There are some promising extras like the ability to summon the bird for example. There are characters to speak with and the cut scenes with the ever elusive evil piper is great to see. Plus the game is unbelievably long with a wonderful story line, but that's about where the fun ends & the aggravation begins... While your inventory is constantly stocked with items, normally a huge plus, you really never know what to do with the items, or worse where to go next. There is an incredible amount of back-tracking, and The Map system is the worst I've ever seen. For example, let's say you walk Up one screen. Well for some unknown reason, you might go TWO screens Up and One to the Left on the Map! WHY??? Another peeve is how once you get past the first part of a challenge (ie: opening a door), of course there is a second challenge waiting just on the other side (ie: a locked box). Of course we enjoy multiple challenges, but this seems to be the rule here, so never really a sense of satisfaction. Another thing is while the locations are totally cozy, and not too badly drawn, the navigation is pitiful. You can get totally lost within the village, even after playing for days. This is mainly because all of the scenes have a blue tone with a muted grey haze to them. Just look up a walk through with screen shots, then look at the scenes as you scroll down, and you'll see what I mean. Okay so for the worst part of all: Is it meant to be interactive or not? The most hair pulling part of all has to be that once you've gotten past all the pitfalls, navigated through the confusing layout, gotten through all of the sometimes obscure challenges, you find yourself with all these objects, but you don't even know IF you can use them within a scene! This is one of the only games I've played (and I've played hundreds) where you don't know if an area is INTERACTIVE or just "talking to you". And because there are many instances of this in almost every scene, you quickly become numb to want to continue; I couldn't wait for it to end. For example, you might click on a picture and the game will say something about the subject. But then you might click on a statue, and the same thing happens. The difference is you cannot actually DO anything with the picture, but you CAN do something with the statue. This just increases the frustration factor because many times you will be walking around in circles for hours not knowing that you could have accomplished something until you turn to the walkthrough. And btw the hint system is one of those that say, "there is nothing to do here" instead of pointing you in the right direction. Well you know what, it's right, there is nothing to do here.
