Fabled Legends: The Dark Piper
More frustrating than anything else
This game, although beautiful in appearance, was the ultimate in frustration. The story was creative, but the narrative was not logical and I spent a lot of time wondering what to do next. The map was no help, either. Many times, it had several locations marked, but there was nothing to be done in any of them, and it turned out there was something to do in a location not marked. The hints were of the "nothing to do here" type, so they were next to useless. There was a lot of backtracking, and no fast travel. There was also a lot of inventory, but most of it wasn't used until much later. Every time I'd get a new item, I'd wonder what the heck it was for, and rarely got anything that excited me because I knew where to use it. The puzzles were very simple, almost too simple. I think there might have been a creative one or two in there, but my frustration at this overly long, confusing, tedious game has wiped out any positive memories. I believe this is the first game I've played by this publisher, and I'm loath to try another.

I like Hidden Object games usually but this one was very disappointing. VERY Slow to load most scenes - you often heard the voice over before seeing the visual. Lots of HO scenes but not many mini games and what there are are very easy. Also lacks logic in what inventry item to use where - for example why use sour milk to put in an urn to get a key why not water?

three major flaws made me really hate this game
the map certain areas in the game and the ho scenes.
the map was way too simple it meant absolutely nothing. all it was was some squares connected by lines and when it was red thats where u were. which is fine if u know whats connected to where but if not its useless. it said it has a green exclamation mark on areas of interest but i played the entire demo clicking the map often and never found it. its like the game never thought there was any interesting area throughout the map. stupid. if u missed something you never knew where it was or even that u missed it because it never came up. useless
the ho scences. they were fun and quite challenge but i have one really serious peeve with them. on all other games u have a few different ways of doing a ho scence. the standard look for stuff, the slightly more complex look for stuff which may be inside or behind other stuff, and the final use stuff to make other stuff, ie pick up a teabag and put it in a cup of water to make a cup of tea which u need to find. simple. with all those games u have NEVER had the option to pick up something you couldnt use. in this one u get it all the time. im picking up a piece of cheese wondering what im supposed to do with it and it turns out its not even related to that ho scence. so damned annoying. i didnt know what was useful and what wasnt or whether i needed to use stuff and sometimes it just plain got in the way when im trying to click something else.
and finally there were certain areas that turned into a magnifying glass or a hand universal game speak for you can do something with this. not true. u can click it and even zoom into stuff like paintings and nothing. its just there to confuse u. itll just say something inane like people left quickly. what use it that? why point it out? why let me zoom into this painting to say hes a sour old man? it makes no sense and really annoyed me.
all in all apart from those two points it was a good game. and if u dont use the map i think ud enjoy it. the storyline was good although i skipped the intro i had a fair idea of what was going on and the effects were pretty good
