Better Off Reading a Good Book!
I really try to be open-minded about HOGs and even if I have outgrown them, there are still classic HOGs that I do enjoy playing from time to time. This however is one HOG that I deleted after 40 minutes of gameplay. Storyline is a simple who-done-it murder mystery and is set inside the theater. There are two modes of play and I dicovered that there are sparkles in the advance mode as well. There are no voice-overs so you spend your time reading alot of dialogues that are printed with way too small fonts. Too much dialogue with very small printed text means squinting alot. Sorry but my eyesight is not what it use to be. Graphics are sharp but dark and there is no annimation. I really dislked the music especially the SFX during HOS; it reminded me of the music during Pyscho's famous shower scene which got on my nerves after a while. This game is strictly a HOG, one HO scene after another with the random puzzle thrown in. HO scenes are dark with no interaction and objects are small but nevertheless easy to find because of the graphics. The Hint system works well and when used, the screen goes black and white except for the object that glows brightly. Puzzles vary alot in style and all of them are the usual run of the mill games that were very easy to play. I really could not get into the story as there was too much to read and I got seriously bored and started to skip dialogues. All very tedious with no fun factor at all. Sorry but this is one Mystery that will remain unsolved for me.

Don't bother.
Talk about boring! Too much dialogue, too many junk piles and no challenge to any mini-games. I didn't make it halfway thru the demo before I deleted it. Just no fun at all.

Made my brain die
this game was awful, i did about 4 scenes, all it was was literally finding hidden objects with a few mini puzzles. the sound drove me nuts, and there was little to no interaction at all, no moving about or locating places on own etc. it was like a hidden object platform game, which just takes you where it wants to go. couldnt take it after 10 mins. such a dissapointment :(

Nearly impossible to play
I downloaded the game and was anxious to play a new HOG, but after three minutes, I realized it was next to impossible to enjoy this game. Everything is so tiny - words for the story, clues for hidden objects, etc.
This game is not for me.

Boring
More HOS than plot. Gave up after 27 minutes. Very slow progression into what promised to be an interestingg storyline. The one puzzle I encountered was far too easy.

Boring
I didn't really like this one. Very boring no real challange the music got on my nerves and to much dialogue. The hidden objects where very small in some cases and the mini games not much of a challange.

Tons of H.O.S. and Mini-games
Two years ago, I would have loved this game. Now, I like my games with better graphics and more interactive scenes.
I made it through the first 2 chapters in the trial version. I played about 15 hidden object scenes. Some of the H.O.S. were back-to-back--go right into another one right after you finish one. The graphics were clear enough to find the objects quickly.
I played at least 10 mini-games. They were the usual. There were lock-picking, slider puzzles, place the gears, configure wiring, sliding blocks to clear a path to the exit, and puzzles.
The dialogue (which can be skipped) is the detective interrogating suspects. There is no voice-over. I thought the storyline had enough intrigue to keep it interesting.
I won't be buying this game because it wasn't challenging enough. If your preference is playing hidden object scenes and mini-games with some dialogue thrown in without moving through scenes to explore, then this is the game for you. If it was a wee bit more challenging or the mini-games were unique, I would buy it. I am going to recommend the game, because I know lots of people prefer less interactive games.

Much Better Than I Thought It Would Be - Pretty Good
This review is for the whole game playing in expert mode.
Story: You take on the role of a detective who has been summoned to Eastville Opera House to investigate the murder of the Queen of Drama, Dolores Molinero interrogating 5 suspects.
4 chapters and I was already into chapter 2 when the demo time was up.
2 play modes: Casual/Expert: The only difference is Expert takes longer to charge up for hint and skip which is still pretty quick as it's under a minute.
No voice overs as there are text boxes that come up on the screen that you read/click through to move forward in the game to follow the story but can be skipped.
This game is: A LOT of HO scenes, with story and some puzzles. You do get some inventory however there is no "wandering around" to this game or having to figure out where the inventory items go as this game does have sparkles to it, tells you what to do and what inventory to use.
HO scenes: Find by word list and the ones in yellow or green color that you find are your inventory items. Some of the scenes I did find to be on the Sanford & Son junkyard pile side and some items really small and tiny.
Puzzles: Most are repeated throughout the game but just to name some of them: Lock picking, jig saw, slider picture as you move the pieces to form a picture, slider puzzles to get the key, rotate the rings, number pad, maze puzzle where you have to drag the ball.
My overall impression of the game:
Well to my surprise I really enjoyed this game as it has the things in it that usually turn me off: No voice overs, Sanford & Son junk piles, small/tiny items and the sparkle hand holding however in spite of all this I was still drawn into this game immediate.
I found the story while it's been done many times before intriguing as it held my interest to the very end as I purchased it immediately when the demo time was up.
The graphics/artwork I found to be very well done as well. Also to my surprise although some of the HO scenes are the Sanford & Son junk pile and some really small/tiny items well I didn't even need the hint until I got to Chapter 3. Most of the scenes I clicked and got through pretty easily. I only used the hint 3 times for the whole game.
Puzzles: I'm not a fan of these however did most of them but skipped the rotate the rings, maze, slider picture, and number pads.
As for game length: Took me exactly 3 hours and found it to be long enough for me and well worth a punch code coupon. Just a nice/relaxing time filler game. A break from all the "wandering around."
Overall I give this 4 stars as I think this game would of been much better with some well done voice over. I also wish the game would of let me figure out things for myself. Oh and I also didn't care for the hint as it will turn the whole screen a grayish color and "highlight" the item. Also if you click wrong about 3 to 4 times the cursor does a "swirly dance."
Thanks Big Fish and developer for a pretty good game here.
As always definitely give it a whirl and decide for yourself .

Eastville chronicles:the drama queen
i found the graphics very amaturish and the puzzels very simple there were too many hidden object scenes one after another with dna samples to find and results coming straight after it is one of the worst games I have tried so no buy for me as no thought needed to play I dont know if the game improves as I only played the demo and that was plenty
