Haunted Hotel: Charles Dexter Ward CE
I liked this one a lot.The scenery takes you from the mansion to the swamps etc...That was really clever and brilliant plus, the atmospheric sounds of water, thunder and the doors creaking .It gives this game it's creepy, eerie feel which I enjoy. The challenges I found them a bit easy. The storyline definitely earns it's five star rating.Love the dark ,twisted approach of it ,it's very compelling and intriguing, it gives you that sense of dread that is so important in these type of games.Overall: Excellent graphics, sounds, good challenges(That could've been better) and a compelling storyline " a la H.P.Lovecraft".Definitely recommend!

More Puzzles...Challenging...made me think
Good graphics, well thought out story and puzzles. Someone actually sat down and sketched this story out. This game is not an excuse for running back and forth and wondering where the next hidden object quest may be. I consulted the strategy guide a couple of times and realized I'd just missed a connection--NOT missed a hidden object or HOS. Challenging and fun with good built-in help should you need it... Extra play makes the CE worth it--and I *never* say that.

Spooky Ghostie Fun
(*imo, based on demo*) I'm having a good time with the latest happenings at Haunted Hotel. Altho i'm not quaking from fear or quivering with expec.....tation, i'm finding the play to be both relaxed & nicely creepy at the same time (an odd mix, i know) Sound fx thru my headphones are spooky cool, & so far i'm liking the music which is turned down low. Graphix are pleasing to the eye in most places - clear & fairly atmospheric, & items are easy to discern even in HOscenes - which are pretty easy & so far not interactive. The black ghostly mist that seems to be a primary player in the game bugs me only because it's awfully pixelated & i think that could/should have been remedied, but it doesnt detract much from the game experience, so no biggie. Puzzles so far are nothing out of the ordinary, nor are they taxing on my pea brain. Cutscenes are good, & i'm thinking there's live environmental filming incorporated, making the setting seem quite real at times. I like the story, & altho it's not the most original ever done, i do want to know who/what/how/ why all this weird stuff is going on, & why is my bro missing. Finding random articles & out-of-order pieces of diary from past residents or present dangers will eventually lead me to the answers, if in a rather roundabout way that could get annoying. We'll see. Is it CE worthy? I'm not convinced it is just because i expect a good CE to rattle my brain & rock my world, which ain't happenin'. But i'm buying anyway 'cause i'm having fun, I liked the last Haunted Hotel, & my self control button is out of order when it comes to decent spooky ghostie stories. Give it a demo & see if this one's for you; i think lots of folks who are into the dark & eerie games might enjoy this. Have fun!!

Great game!
This game does not look like the others. I liked the videos that leave a sense of real events. They have the unique atmosphere.
I'm a fan of Lovecraft and the fact that this game was created after his works became for me a very pleasant and unexpected surprise. Unfortunately the demo does not disclose all the charm of the plot.
Excellent graphics and enjoyable game play. Puzzles are not too hard. Just right for me. Great game.

Full of action!!
Loved the music and the great mini games. The voice over was well done. The HOS were very nicely done and not too many of them which is fine by me. Lot's of things to do and one is always active in finding out what to do next. Nicely put together. I found the story a bit ominous to me, simply because she could not save her brother. Maybe in the next game. All in all it is a great game and well worth the money.

Not perfect, but still great!
A vast improvement on the first in the series.
Graphics were well done, voice-overs good.
Catered for widescreen.
Hidden object scenes were easy, and puzzles varied from easy to moderate, with a good variety.
Achievements to earn on the way.
Storyline flowed well, but didn't capture my interest.
Bonus chapter followed on from main story but wasn't essential to the story. Bonus chapter was a just passable length - could have been longer.
Would like to give this 4 1/2 stars, but settled on 4 stars as story was unresolved - another sequel?

Great game!
This is my first review. The game was great! I love H.P. Lovecraft novels and this game has some reference to them.
I really enjoyed the graphics and logic of game play. The story despite a quite standard beginning has an interesting twist at the end. Doesn't have to many HOS for me.
Loved it!

Lovecraftian Goodness
I didn't know when I downloaded the demo that this game was based off an H.P. Lovecraft story, but the image during the game load said it all. Dark ambiance, creepy shadows, slowly unfolding plotline - puzzles were really pretty easy. Enjoyable if you like the genre. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!

Awesome game
I found this game very attractive.
I like to read Lovecraft so firts of all I noticed signs of him in this game.
The game is very logical, puzzles may look not the hardest ones but they are emerged into the game perfectly. While playing I had a great feeling of being involved in the story, atmosphere. When I got to the end of Day Two I was thinking - what waits for me in Day 3? It was great.
I can't help mentioning video between the Days. Very atmospheric, making transitions between Days smooth.
Also, I have noticed that current title is not connected with previous ones in Haunted Hotel series,so made from the the scratch.I think developers put parts of their souls, imagination and everything they can in this game.
I would definately recommend this game.
P.S.
I also recommend to read the diary pages. There are a lot of reference to other Lovecraft in them. They will help you to get in the sotry much more deeply.
